Potomac Mills is a super-regional shopping mall in Woodbridge, Virginia in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. It is located near Interstate 95 between Smoketown Road, Telegraph Road, and the Prince William Parkway.
The mall was the first in the Mills Corporation's chain of shopping malls, and has over 225 retailers and an 18-screen AMC movie theater. According to the Virginia Tourism Corp., Potomac Mills is the 10th most popular tourism site in the state. In 2004-2005, the mall went through a renovation that was completed on September 20, 2005, which was also the mall's 20th anniversary. The new style of the building is brighter and more inviting. The number of neighborhoods have been reduced from nine to five. Six of the nine main mall entries have newer, modern arches with the words "POTOMAC MILLS", but no longer have the mall's circular logo. The mall's current neighborhoods are themed by the different regions of Virginia's landscape: Mountain, Valley, Hill, Plain, and Coast.
Potomac Mills is the largest single-floor mall in Virginia and the second largest mall in the D.C. area, behind Tysons Corner Center.
On May 15, 2008, the Simon Property Group announced plans to add another 50,000 square feet to the mall along the south side. The expansion will span between the AMC Theatres and the Costco, with 30,000 square feet planned for sit down restaurants and 20,000 square feet for new retail. Construction is slated to be completed in 2010.
