Peter Poulton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Poulton, aka Bam Bam, (born January 2, 1970) is a British radio personality. He lives in North London with his partner Emma and their two children.

He began his radio career at the age of 16 when he joined Radio City in Liverpool, England. By 1994 he had moved to Atlantic 252 where he presented the mid-morning show. In 1995 he moved to Invicta FM in Kent, there he presented the evening show. Bam Bam left Invicta and moved to Kiss 105 in Yorkshire where he launched the station as Breakfast Show presenter. He stayed with Kiss 105 for its entire existence, moving across the Pennines to its newly branded sister station Galaxy 102, following the sale of both stations to the Chrysalis group in 1997.

In March 1998 Peter moved to Virgin Radio where he stayed until September of the same year.

In January 1999 he went on to present the Bam Bam Breakfast on London's Kiss 100 with his co-host Rob Hayes, aka Streetboy. He hosted the show for seven years, and was the first to steal market leadership from the dominant Chris Tarrant (Capital Breakfast), in the 15-24 demographic. The show won multiple Sony Radio Academy awards, along with New York Festival and CRCA industry awards.

Poulton was sacked in April 2006 whilst on annual leave, shortly before the station received a record fine of £175,000 from the industry regulator, Ofcom after a series of breaches of the broadcasting code during his show. At the time of his exit, The Bam Bam Breakfast was number 1 in the London market for 15-34 year olds.

In March 2007 Bam Bam joined Capital 95.8 (London) and presented the station's evening show Monday to Friday with co-hosts Streetboy and Kat Shoob. On 6 December 2007, Radio Today announced that Bam Bam had left Capital. In its nine month run his show increased the amount of listeners to Capital Radio, during its broadcast hours, by 55%.

Between September 2006 and November 2007 , Bam and Streetboy worked together with Frizzle and Slick (and later Kat and Slim) on an internet exclusive radio show from THESHOW.com , Originally called the Bam Bam Daily which later became the Bam Bam Show, which could be downloaded everyday as a mini show for your MP3 Player. The Show include many features which were unbroadcastable on normal radio and included regular input from James Max (The Apprentice and LBC) and Council Dweller Dave.

On March 14 2008, renamed "Bam" and with a different show format, he was found broadcasting live on BBC London 94.9 standing in for Danny Baker, and is expected to cover once more on March 19 2008, signalling a potential permanent return to Radio for Bam Bam with the BBC.
