[edit] Welcome to WikiProject Plants!

[edit] Category:Barbarians up for deletion

Hi Pecopteris, I see that you've started a category for barbarians. Unfortunately, I've put it up for deletion, but I invite you to add your comments to the deletion process here: Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2008_May_6#NEW_NOMINATIONS. Good luck on your newly founded WikiProject and I hope that you continue editing Wikipedia (don't take this proposed deletion personally, it happens all the time, even to me). --CapitalR (talk) 15:45, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiprojects

Hi Rkitko, and thank you very much for the warm welcome! I have already started an arcticle, but it is not making much progress, could you please help me out? The arcticle is Pecopteris. I was wondering this as well: How do you start a WikiProject without "suggesting" it?

Thanks a lot!--Pecopteris (talk) 11:58, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome! It's great to have you aboard. I'll certainly take a look at Pecopteris for you. I'll make comments on the talk page of the article, Talk:Pecopteris, about why I made those changes. As for a new WikiProject, I see you've already begun one. Suggesting a new one is the best way to get attention. You can go around and advertize your interest to WikiProjects with a similar objective or you could approach members of what you see your "parent project" as and ask if anyone else would be interested in starting up a new project or task force. Do understand that most projects don't usually gain enough members to sustain themselves. But definitely try and see who's interested. Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 21:39, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi Rkitko,
Thank you so much for editing my arcticle, Pecopteris. There were a lot of things that were wrong with the arcticle and you did a very good job fixing them.
Is there a way that we could still include a picture? I think that would be a nice addition to the page.
Would you be interested in joining WikiProject Barbarians? If so, please just go and add your username to the list at the project page. Thanks a lot!--Pecopteris (talk) 15:31, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
It's a pleasure to help. There weren't that many things "wrong" with the article - just a couple minor tweaks to bring it in line with our manual of style and other conventions/policies. It takes time to figure out all the guidelines, etc. so don't worry if you run into bumps along the way. It's great having you here; fossil plants and extinct taxa are sorely under-represented on Wikipedia. Do you focus on this as a hobby or in a professional capacity?
It would be great to include a photo of this genus, but Wikipedia has copyright policies that don't allow for many photos on the internet to be uploaded to our servers. First and foremost, images should be copyright free, and websites must specifically state that. Other than that, photographers can give permission for us to use their photos (see WP:COPYREQ for form letters, etc.), but they must understand that it is not "for Wikipedia only" or for "educational use only" - it must be stated that images used on Wikipedia can be used downstream commercially, reproduced, and altered. It's hard to find someone willing to do that. You might have some luck on flickr. There are quite a few images of Pecopteris fossils, but all appear to be copyrighted. Some flickr users just don't change their user settings when uploading and don't care much if their photos are uploaded to Wikipedia. You can see if you can write to them and ask them if they would mind changing the photo's copyright status to the "creative commons" license (must allow commercial and altered uses). I've had luck in the past with asking users to do that. If you get someone to agree, I can help you through the uploading process and how to utilize the proper licensing tags. That's probably your best bet. You might also consider writing to the owners of those webpages you had linked to and asking for permission (you can use one of the form letters at WP:COPYREQ if you wish). Hope that helps!
I wish you luck with your WikiProject. Other than "backyard history", history, anthropology, and sociology rarely excite me, so I don't think I'll join your WikiProject. If you do, however, gain some more members, I can assist in project organization. Best of luck! --Rkitko (talk) 02:59, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Userboxes, etc.

I'll be gald to help, but I haven't been around here all that much longer than you. I think our best bet is just to copy and edit other people's userboxes and article classifications. As for the stubs, I'll do some research. By the way, I didn't know the project was up for deletion, or I wouldn't have joined so quickly. It's better to have the project firmly agreed upon before we move straight into it. As it is, I'me stickin' with you and trying to keep it going, but I definitely think a name change would be a good idea. "Barbarians" is a bit of an offensive term. I like the "Nomadic Europeans of classical antiquity" idea, although I'm not sure it has exactly the same scope. We probably ought to ask a few of the people from related categories if they want to join.---G.T.N. (talk) 16:27, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Picts/Articles

Hi. I moved the original page to the one named above because of a namespace typo. -- Mentisock 23:04, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

OK, it looks to me like Wikipedia:WikiProject Picts has the same problem as the whole Barbarians thing. Only two members, no discussion that I can find about creating it, and POV language (calling Picts "barbarians"). I'd suggest Picts would find more interest and coverage under either WP:CELTS or WP:SCOTLAND. We already have folks in those Wikiprojects working on those things. I think we should delete this for the same reasons as Barbarians, and if there's enough interest, perhaps in the future it could fork off one of those other projects (Celts or Scotland). [edit] WikiProject "Barbarians"

Hello Pecopteris. As you might or might not be aware of by now, the unilaterally created project entitled "Barbarians" is not being met with enthusiasm. In fact, a few people - myself included - are rather disappointed with it. I have expressed my concerns in the discussion to delete the Category "Barbarians", and everyone there has agreed that it should either be deleted or, at the very least, renamed to something more appropriate. I hope that you have taken those comments seriously, and are currently considering a change in direction concerning your contribution to Wikipedia.

As I think you were aware, it is generally standard procedure to suggest or nominate the creation of a project prior to creating it. This is done in order to assure that the proposed project will have enough support from the community to prevent its becoming inactive, and thus simply wasting server space and cluttering up talkpages with disused banners. (There are ca. 250 currently inactive WikiProjects on Wikipedia.) 5 members are considered the minimum membership which would justify the creation of a project. As it stands, your project has 2 members - one of which is in favour of renaming it to something else. I request that you seriously reconsider your undertaking. Thanks. —Aryaman (Enlist!) 18:43, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Pecopteris. I'm glad to see you have decided to abandon the 'Barbarian' business and instead are directing your energy toward establishing a new project on a well-deserved topic (i.e. the Huns). I'm sure you'll find that people will be much more receptive to your work in the future. Have a nice day. —Aryaman (Enlist!) 14:04, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

So does this mean you'd also agree with deleting the Barbarians portal? - Kathryn NicDhàna 05:26, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] {{Barbarian stub}}

Hi - a stub template, category, or redirect which you created has been nominated for deletion or renaming at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 04:29, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Ancient Germanic studies

Hi Pecopteris. As we now have enough members, I have been getting ready to set up WikiProject Ancient Germanic studies and have posted some notes and random odds and ends in my sandbox. You can observe the current state of affairs here. I will be creating the project page in the next few days so that we can discuss the proposed elements. However, if you see anything that you feel requires immediate correction, feel free to contact me with the details. Thanks. —Aryaman (Enlist!) 23:09, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Pecopteris. Thanks again for signing up to the WikiProject Ancient Germanic studies. We have just set up the project's base page, and you are invited to read through the guidelines, policies and suggestions, as well as to participate in the current discussions on the project's talk page. Thanks again. —Aryaman (talk) 15:44, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Matthew Leone

Regarding your recent edit to Matthew Leone, i do not regard this as offensive. Remember, wikipedia is not censored. Riverpeopleinvasion (talk) 21:24, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Haha it's okay i'm just glad you like good music :P It means we can swear as much as we want in articles, within reason ofcourse. Funny policy to be honest :P Riverpeopleinvasion (talk) 18:51, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
haha fair enough. I like that kinda thing :P. You haven't been here very long though have you? It gets addictive lol Riverpeopleinvasion (talk) 20:34, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Brand Asset Consulting

Why did you delete Brand Asset Consulting? It is only a link from Brand Asset Valuator and a brief description of the company, not an advertisement.

I only tagged it for speedy deletion, I didn't delete it. It was a recreated form of an already deleted page.--Pecopteris (talk) 17:14, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Erp (Pict)

I moved this into its own article Erp (Pict) so that Erp can redirect to the ERP disambiguation page. Eraserhead1 (talk) 19:08, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of PHBSA

A tag has been placed on PHBSA requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 22:21, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
