[edit] Origin

The band was formed in 1992, during a period called the Basement Sessions. The Basement Sessions were conducted in the basement of Paul Grey.[1] The first line-up of the band was Grey, Anders Colsefini, Patrick Neuwirth, and Shawn Crahan. In the basement sessions, Painface, made 5 songs; "Slipknot", "Gently", "Idiot", "What's Wrong", and "Wise up".

[edit] Slipknot era

In 1994, Painface officially started and changed their name to Slipknot. They made the album Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat in 1996. In 1997, -ismist Recordings signed Slipknot and Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat was put into stores. Only 1,000 copies were made. Later, Anders left and they forced Cuddles out of the band, and they got Corey Taylor and many more members, so they had 9 members. Then in 1999 Slipknot released Slipknot instead of their other album Self-Titled Slipknot.[clarify] During that time, they were signed by Roadrunner Records, and still are today.

[edit] The new Painface

After Anders left Slipknot, he created his own band by reusing Slipknot's original name, Painface. Painface was active from 1998 until 2001. They were a death metal band, although some say they are nu metal, because there are hints of Slipknot influence in the music. They released an EP, 'On A Pale Horse before writing their first album, FleshCraft. FleshCraft was released in 1999-2000 and sold around 1000 copies. Most of the lyrics dealt with the same themes as Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat had - Werewolf: The Apocalypse.

In 2008, after leaving Vice Grip Throttle, Anders announced on his MySpace profile that Painface was reuniting.
