Orange II
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Orange II is a sailboat. It is a large catamaran designed for ocean racing, a "maxicat". The boat is 36.80 m long and has a 45 m mast. It is one of the fastest ocean-going sailing vessels in the world. It was designed by the Gilles Ollier Multiplast design team and built by the Multiplast yard in Vannes, France.
Orange II holds the Jules Verne Trophy for the fastest time around-the-world at 50 days, 16 hours, 20 minutes and 4 seconds (2005).
Orange II was skippered by Frenchman Bruno Peyron.
The sponsor, Orange (brand), is selling the boat (and disbanding the team) in order to focus on other sponsorship activities. The first Orange boat, Orange (I), was sold to the Rothchild Group and became Gitana 13, recent (as of March 2008) New York to San Francisco record holder.
