The Wonderful Adventures of Nils (ニルスのふしぎな旅?) is an anime adaptation of the novel The Wonderful Adventures of Nils by the Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf. which ran on the Japanese network NHK from January 8, 1980–March 17, 1981. It consists of 52 episodes. This was Studio Pierrot's first series.

[edit] Plot
Nils Holgersson is a 14 year old farm boy, the son of poor farmers. He is lazy and unrespectful to his fellowman. In his spare time he enjoys abusing animals until one day he catches the farm's little goblin and it becomes one prank too many. The furious goblin magically shrinks Nils and now he is much smaller than all the animals, he is able to understand and talk in the language of all animals but now all of the farm animals are out for revenge. He manages to flee on the back of the goose Morten with his new hamster friend Carrot, and they join up with a flock of wild geese whom is flying to the south of Sweden where it is warmer. Together they travel across Sweden, with Nils hoping to find a way to become big again. they encounter many adventures along the ride and Nils gets to help other people and not be selfish.

A Japanese DVD Region 2 box set of the series was produced in 2002, and a French DVD box set in 2005. An English DVD release was never made.
