RE:Assistance
Sorry to taking a long time to respond.
I don't think User:Opp is a sockpuppet of User:Bright888. Few puppeteers go to the length to create a legitimate-looking sockpuppet, and most sockpuppets are used to exclusively revert... no presence on the talk page or at least no attempt at serious communication. But then I don't really deal with edit wars and sockpuppeteers that much, so I could be very wrong. -- Миборовский 20:05, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- The thing with this set is that many of them did post comments rather than only reverting. It's likely unusual, as you said, but I think Opp fit the pattern set by Bright888 and his other puppets. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:16, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

The edit in Gosho Aoyama
Yeah, I was reacting too harshly considering it was probably a drive-by anon who doesn't know about the general policies... WhisperToMe 05:27, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
3RR
I understand there's supposed to be a 3RR rule, but you have to enforce it against vandalism going on at Rusk documents, Comfort women, An Jung-geun, and Shimane Prefecture. How can Wikipedia be an encyclopedia if anonymous editors can continue to make the same biased edits without restrictions, but you can't revert them? If you just block people like me without stopping the vandalism, you will only encourage more people to continue the reverts through anonymous accounts instead of registering and contributing. Thank you for your help. Dollarfifty 02:33, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm doing the best I can. It's all I can do to keep up with Rusk and Dokdo. And I have blocked several anon IPs working in concert for violating 3RR. You haven't been blocked yet, since you hadn't been warned. Ther···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:39, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Please help with user 59.22.251.156. Dollarfifty 03:03, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Please - I'm willing to bet user 59.22.251.156. is user objectman - uploaded revisions are what he/she put up originally. It's really frustrating. Powderoom's original writeup was q vast improvement. --Dan 04:35, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Please, please. I'm relatively new here and not familiar with reporting procedures. But Objectman's antics with continuing reversions and sockpuppets are driving away other good editors. Take a look at Empress Myeongseong. Thank you. Dollarfifty 14:56, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Agree completely. The guy/gal's language is sorely lacking yet he/she persists in reversions. It's very frustrating when we're trying to do a good job with this page. --Dan 16:03, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
I warned 3RR wornning from you.I'm sorry.I'm not native and I didn't understand wikipedia rule.--Forestfarmer 10:01, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Block conflicts
Due to an unfortunate software misfeature, if you wish to extend a user's block, it is necessary to unblock and then re-block, otherwise the user will regain write-access at the end of the shortest active block. If you look in the Special:Ipblocklist for the user's name, and any expiration times appear, then the block is not permanant, and needs to be reset, as was the case with Objectman (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log). You may have other recent blocks that need checking. — Jun. 14, '06 [16:42] <freak|talk>
Recent move of "Mahou Sentai Magiranger"
While thinking I was reverting an error, it came to my attention that you had moved Mahou Sentai Magiranger to Mahō Sentai Majirenjā to fit with the WP:MoS-JA ways of article naming. While I realize that this is important, is this really how the two are transliterated to each other through Hepburn romanicization (especially, because the Japanese-English spelling of Majirenjā is Magiranger [the way it is written in the Roman alphabet by the Japanese])?. Ryulong 01:51, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, that was me just spacing. I've fixed it to Mahō Sentai Magiranger. Thanks for catching that. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:20, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

- That's not exactly what I was pointing out, but works anyway. Warn me if you move the other Super Sentai pages? I might put them on my watch list, now, too. Ryulong 03:28, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
inuse tag
The inuse tag is about avoiding edit conflicts... Keiko Han is hardly editted at all so they would seem very unlikly. please review the instructions at Template:Inuse - the template is not to be left up when you are not actively editting the article, or have not made an edit in the last 2 hours. --W.marsh 18:53, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm well aware of how to use the tag, and I'm working on the article right this very instant (or I would be if I didn't have to keep reversing your removal of the tag). I'm sorry I can't type fast enough for you, but translation is not a quick process. Leave the tag alone, please. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:56, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- I don't understand why the tag needs to be up for you to do any of that... and it was up for over 14 hours before I got there, were you actively editting it then too? --W.marsh 18:59, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- Doesn't really matter anymore as I changed the tag so you'd leave it alone. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:06, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- That tag shouldn't be left up for long periods of time either, since it tells people not to edit the article. --W.marsh 19:08, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- As I stated above, I'm well aware of how to use the tag, so please leave it alone. Two days is hardly a "long time", either. Again, please leave the tag alone. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:28, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- It is when you consider that there's no reason to tell people not to edit an article while you're asleep, at work, etc. These tags are just for avoiding edit conflicts... which only vaguely possible on rarely editted articles, and impossible when you aren't even editting at all.--W.marsh 19:32, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- Look, I'm not going to bother replying anymore to this as what I'm saying is obviously not getting through to you. I could have accomplished quite a bit more on the article if I hadn't had to waste time with your micromanaging of the completely valid use of the {{inuseuntil}} tag. I clearly stated on the tag when it would be removed, and as you said, the article is not edited all that often so it shouldn't have been a problem. Please go find something worthwhile to do here rather than harrassing someone who is trying to do something useful. Again, please leave the article alone and it should be done sometime later today (unless I keep getting pointless messages posted here). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:48, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well it was clearly not a valid use of the tag, as I've explained. I don't know why that's so difficult to grasp. It's for avoiding edit conflicts, not claiming articles as ones I (and other people) can't edit. By continuing to insist on needlessly using this tag, you're wasting your own time... --W.marsh 19:50, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not claiming that no one else can edit the article. If you read the tag, it states that you can either post a note on the talk page or contact the person who placed it. That's not too difficult a thing to ask of someone when an article is actively being worked on (and yes, I'm aware of your narrow definition of "actively"). I could understand your concern if the tag had been there for several days or even a week, but this one had been there less than 24 hours. Again, please go find something actually useful to do rather than harrassing people who are trying to improve the encyclopedia. By your talk page, I can see I'm not the first person you've ticked off about this, so perhaps it's time to re-evalute your methods and try a different approach rather than bullying other editors who don't exactly fit into your narrow view of how the site should work. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:00, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks
Thanks for reverting the deletion of the image on the Japanese grammar page; I hadn't caught it yet.
I made the current image to replace the largely illegible one there before, but I'm not overly attached to it. If there's a consensus on changing or deleting it altogether, I'm not opposed.

Threat to "revert war as long as it takes"
Your comment, "I will continue that revert war as long as it takes." is highly inappropriate. Revert warring is specifically against Wikipedia policy (see the bold part in this paragraph). If you decide to continue in a revert war, you may be blocked from editing on Wikipedia for a period of time.
I would hate to do this as I think you are a good editor and you have made many, many good contributions to Wikipedia. However, disruptions that threaten the general peace on Wikipedia can not be tolerated. I strongly recommend that you engage in civil discussions with Ned Scott and try to work out any differences of opinion you have about the List of Air episodes article on the talk page. Thank you. (^_^) ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:13, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry I dislike to be bullied. I have no issues with ned. I was haply editing the article untill he arived and dictate it. If such behaviour is acceptable, so are revert wars. I am sick and tired of getting stalked. Even with overwheling evidence I only get a slowly progressing Arbcom case which only allows the stalker to come back with a sock. ned perhaps isn't Davenbelle/Moby Dick but as much anoying. --Cat out 14:10, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the recent poll for Tsushima Basin / Ulleung Basin, I have formally requested RfC in Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Policies. Can you please take a look, and comment if you will? Appleby is questioning whether there was consensus in favor of Tsushima Basin or not (with 57.9%), and whether the Sea of Japan map should have been changed to reflected the poll results or not.--Endroit 13:40, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Mega Man tool-assisted speedrun in Japan-related deletions
Just a notice that I think it might not be entirely appropriate that this article is in Japan-related deletions. The only thing Japanese about it is the fact that a Japanese runner made the initial version, that the last two versions of the run were created with large contributions from Japanese runners, and that the game itself was Japanese up until the last version (which was made using the American version of the game). It is otherwise not really a Japanese topic. But maybe I'm mistaken regarding the criteria for topics to appear there. —Michiel Sikma (Kijken maar niet aanraken) 05:58, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Mega Man is a Japanese game series, so anything related to it is entirely appropriate for the Japan-related deletions page. We try to be somewhat loose with the "Japan-related" interpretation, and would rather include something if it's borderline. All inclusion does is give more people the opportunity to voice an opinion on the possible deletion. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:44, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, I see! Well, I guess that's good enough of a reason, then. I still don't know too much about AfDs. Maybe you could tell me when you think the discussion will be labelled "done" so that I can either start doing something else or continue working on that article? Right now, it's just pointlessly preventing the article from progressing... —Michiel Sikma (Kijken maar niet aanraken) 16:05, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

- AfD's usually run at least 5 days, though sometimes longer. You can continue to work on the article and improve it while it's being discussed, but I recommend that you let people know that you've been addressing the concerns expressed in the AfD because that may cause them to change their opinions on it. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:59, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shinmin no Michi
I moved the note to the top, so people could see it more easily. It's purely for information and not part of the discussion thread, so it doesn't have to be chronological. Items are usually in the relevant place, not rigidly by time, e.g. under a particular comment there can be a sub-thread of discussion going on, while text underneath, and not in the sub-thread, carries an earlier date stamp. Tyrenius 08:18, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, this is the first time I've ever seen anyone move that notice up the page. It's already smaller, so people will know it's different than the rest of the comments and such, so I see no reason it should be treated any differently than the rest of the postings there. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:40, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Kazuo Oka promo photo.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Socks
Hi. I know that you already tried to do a check user on User:Mythologia, User:Junmai, User:Celldea, User:Forestfarmer, etc. and I know it didn't work out. Is there any thing else that can be done? At Tsushima Basin, user Junmai reverted three times and then Mythologia stepped up to the plate. It is pretty obvious that they are sock puppets avoiding the three revert rule. It's just getting pretty frusturating is all. Thanks for being fair. Tortfeasor 09:16, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- I completely understand. However, I don't have any way to force them to do a checkuser if they decide to be stubborn about it. It's obvious to me and to a lot of other editors that they are socks, but apparently the checkuser people don't think so, so we'll just have to do our best to counter their disinterest in proving it. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:30, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

- Off the top of my head: Tsushima Basin, East Sea, Sea of Japan, the infamous Rusk documents, Syngman Rhee line, this odd point-of-view gem Norimitsu Onishi, the two that probably could go without saying: Japan and Dokdo, Okinoshima, Shimane, and Comfort women.

- Other candidates of the sock brigade include User:Questionfromjapan, User:Bright888, User:Amanatsu, and User:Vip001.

- Yesterday at Tsushima Basin Junmai reverted three times and then the forth revert was done pretty quickly by Mythologia, an obvious sock puppet, to avoid the three revert rule. Last time at check user they said no because it was a "content dispute." Should I try check user again because this is a more obvious use of a sock to circumvent Wikipedia policy before the statute of limitations are up or should I just wait for this RFC?

is Dororo really a part of the World Masterpiece Theater?
I have recleaned all the refferals of the template and of the article itself of the WMT.. while cleaning it up, I noticed that the series Dororo didn't show up on other lists as being a part of the WMT.. why ? More things which I did not find in the article -
- since you made it a seperate article from Nippon Animation , I assumed you would write that some of the early animes of the WMT were done by other anime studios... yet you didn't , so I changed it myself.
- why didn't you add the series New Moomin (TV series) in the WMT's template as well.. ?

Did you see "Princess MONONOKE"? I recommend it,because It is described in detail.especially,Forest and old steel maker(japanese old Steel maker is "tatara-basyu:タタラ場集"or tatara-syu"タタラ集"."タタラ" is steelworks and not kanji because "タタラ" is very old Japanese).Japanse old steel maker is really hated by farmer.becuse steel works damage the environment heavily.A large amount of trees are consumed and the river is made dirty.accordingly for example,The ironworks had at one's own expense held the festival for the farmer every half year.and the steel maker's chief swear that We would not make steel without permission before the altar.Do you understand how steel makes hated by farmer? steel make are hard work but They were rich as the serious illness patient was able to be supported at that time(about 4~500 years ago) really. finally the protagonist says "Live both" to person's representative(steel makers) and the representative of nature(Princess MONONOKE).--Forestfarmer 09:38, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- steelmaking uses alot of trees that devastated gaya in 4th century. Jjok
- I used to live near the place that was the inspiration for Tataraba in Princess Mononoke. It was a cool place, located in Shimane Prefecture. Princess Mononoke is a good film. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:49, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Examining to Shimane Prefecture is terrible. The soil contains a lot of iron oxide. Only heavy iron oxide precipitates when it is put in the river and it is used for steel make. Therefore, the river is made dirty. It is said "(kan-nagasi:かんながし)after applied kanji"鉄穴流し" "in Japanese archaic word.may be "かん" is a solid contained iron oxide.anyway,"Princess Mononoke" is interesting to know Japanese old steel meake in detail.Japanese not usually know "たたら" now.It is terrible interesting to know the culture of Japan also for Japanese(though it is useless) because it is closely related to the culture of Japan .some origin of a festival local in West Japan is it.--Forestfarmer 08:54, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- and above "かんながし" is viewed on Princess Mononoke. It is a scene without the meaning of about one second(may be first visit of the protagonist or final battle). farmer is usually cultivating it in the rice field in Japan. Rice field need much water.therefore, farmer hated steel makers.Hayao Miyazaki might have learnt above.--Forestfarmer 11:40, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
East Sea
I find it disconcerting that as people are starting ot talk about finally moving toward a solution on a long-disputed page, a person on one side of the debate would without discussion protect the page in the version which just happens to match their POV. That just does not look like working together for a better tomorrow...Bridesmill 16:51, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Bridesmill: I don't want to but in to your business but I think you may have a mistaken impression of what is going on. There have been a lot of articles affected by a band of sock puppets, including East Sea the other night when it kept being reverted back and forth. While the East Sea article is currently locked in the form it is in, I don't think it was locked in that form as an endorsement but simply the last state it was in before it was locked. While East Sea is in arguably a "Japanese point of view state", a counterexample of an article that Nihonjoe locked is Tsushima Basin which is in it's non "Japanese point of view state." Tortfeasor 17:12, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Bridesmill, please read the protection notice itself (the one placed at the top of East Sea). You'll note that it very clearly states that, "Protection is not an endorsement of the current page version." I haven't participated in the discussions regarding most of these articles (or if I have, it's been a long time) because of all the back-and-forth edit warring going on. It's truly pathetic that people have to resort to POV bickering over perceived slights (many of those alleged slights happening long before any of the participants in the current discussion were even alive).
- Due to this problem with these articles, they were protected in whatever state they happened to be in at the time in order to give everyone involved time to grow up and act like adults (even if you aren't adults, you can still act like one), and work out a form of the pages that's acceptable to everyone. People will have to learn to compromise and perhaps accept things in the articles they don't agree with. The overall purpose of this is achieve a balanced article which presents all sides of a particular debate in an (as much as possible) unbiased way. All the petty reverting, name-calling, snide remarks, etc., are doing nothing toward this end. Everyone needs to take a step back, take a deep breath, and then come back to the "table" with a willingness to work out a decent article. Until that happens, the articles will remain locked. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:11, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

- It's hard to tell. There are several people involved who act like socks (whether all run by one person, or a group of people all working together). I don't have any way to know for sure, though. By the way, I think it not surprising that who see the title being changed into dokto come and want to join wiki edit. I am one of them. This issue is very hot with the problem of North Korea. I understnd this, and I acknowledge the point made about your other lock by Tortfeasor, but you have to admit, that this page was moving forward for the first time in months, with the Korean position accepting a compromise other than their assistance on a redirect; which IMHO was a significant compromise and show of good faith.and then after months of silence the Japan POV says 'that's not acceptable' in a big huff and very quickly locks tha page down - facts and potivations may be different, but you must admit that the perception it leaves is not one of trying to move forward for a better tomorrow.Bridesmill 03:23, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- The East Sea article was protected along with several other related articles. I've already explained my reasoning behind it, so discussing things here isn't going to do anything. You need to discuss things on Talk:East Sea, not here. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:31, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- I read the recording of Liancourt Rocks to Dokto discussion and voting which were held without any contrariety. If there are any contrariety, it will be like that. Because without opponents, people can't judge that arguments are Korean (or Japanse) POV or not. That situation is as same to Korean themselves, and as same ofcause to Japaese. >Bridesmill Mythologia 11:03, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

nihonjoe, thanks for your patience & efforts on these articles. however, i'm very concerned about doing a "poll" as a final resolution to these disputes, as if numerical superiority trumps reasoned debate.
as you know, Wikipedia:Consensus pretty strongly discourages voting, and for good reasons amply demonstrated recently. i fear that mere numerical roll-call of opinions will only encourage various accounts to fill up a list, especially on these topics. consensus doesn't mean majoritarian rule, but rather a reasonable discussion of policy, sources, & content. if you look at the talk page, this is just what has happened, miraculously enough; several long-term contributors, even mediating wikipedians, have discussed and negotiated at length, and have reached agreement on the wording.
i realize that this is asking for a lot of your time, & i did see your "busy" notice, but i just want to avoid the risk of going back to square one with mob rule, after so much hard work by many editors. thanks again for your attention. Appleby 18:35, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Although close, we have not yet agreed on the wording.--Endroit 18:39, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Kimengumi romanization issue
It appears romanized in the manga (always as "High School! Kimengumi"), in several insert illustrations. I can try to get a scan later, if further evidence is wanted. I have the recent bunkoban, I don't know if these were present in the original volumes. Alcy 08:06, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I can look for them. I have all the original tankōbon for Sannen and Kimen. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:03, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Hello
Thanks for locking all those problem sites, it seems to have helped because the serious editors are creating consensus. However, an ongoing problem is at Japan. We have certain users pushing a point of view, and I'm not saying it is only on one side. But the fact is that certain users keep blanking cited information. Numerous citations have been provided in the archives and are referenced in the actual article. To make the article a neutral point of view these blanked areas should be in the article. I don't want to ask you to intervene if that will damage your credibility or your neutrality but trying to get consensus with these editors is not working and telling them what Wikipedia policy doesnt seem to work. No other editor seems to care. I'm not sure what else to do. Your opinion would be great. Tortfeasor 18:11, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Youki Kudoh
Youki Kudoh is her official trade name.
See http://www.movies.co.jp/sayuri/main/main.html - Go to cast, and you will see "Youki Kudoh"
According to the MOS - Youki Kudoh goes before the macronized form.
I might mention that she romanizes "Yuu" as "You" as in the English word "You" - It's not standard at all, but, it's how Ms. Kudoh chooses to do it, and how she's credited in the movie credits. WhisperToMe 20:14, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- Whatever works. I can see this causing no end of confusion, though. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:30, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, that's where the footnotes come in: "Youki Kudoh (工藤 夕貴, Kudō Yūki?, " - The "Kudō Yūki" part tells how her name is really pronounced. Course, I'll add the note about the English "you" too :) WhisperToMe 20:50, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Takeshima article
Thanks for your efforts to bring some sanity into Dokdo, Sea of Japan, etc. I'm not sure if you've seen that the Japanese side have created a new Takeshima Island article with extreme Japanese POV. East Sea
I've added an outside opinion. I don't think the article will be POV if any of the current proposals is implemented. It's gone through phases of that in the past, as various editors have added POV language, and it will likely turn into a POV fork of Sea of Japan naming dispute if it is not carefully monitored once unprotected, but I am reasonably hopeful that after all that discussion it will be maintained as a sensible, NPOV disambiguation page. The key thing is to ensure that no descriptive prose is permitted, and I think all the editors who were arguing for that have conceded the point.
I must say I don't envy you in your heroic efforts to keep all these contentious articles NPOV. (Hmm, how long before I'm accused of being your sockpuppet...? ;) — Haeleth Talk 18:28, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- It'd be interesting if you were accused of that since you've been around here quite a bit longer (I believe), and we only occasionally cross paths on the articles we edit. (^_^) ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:40, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Japanese image copyright question
I was wondering if you could clear-up some questions I have about Japanese image copyright law. I understand that Japan's law is Life+50. However, what if the authorship of a particular image (such as Image:Slayers.jpg) can't be determined? As you're aware, Japanese newspapers rarely publish the names of the photographers or journalists responsible for articles and pictures in their publications (although I understand this has been changing lately). In this case, is the law publication+50? Also, it's difficult to tag Japanese images with the appropriate license status since there isn't a license template for Japan on Wikipedia like there is for other countries. What license tag should I use for Japanese images that are public domain under Japanese copyright law? Thank you. Cla68 14:39, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know Japanese copyright law, so I'm not sure. However, I fixed the license tag on that image for you. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:56, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
