Nevada Question 2 (2002)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Question 2 of 2002 is a so-called "defense of marriage amendment" that amended the Nevada Constitution by adding a definition of marriage that has the effect of preventing same-sex marriages from being conducted or recognized in Nevada. The Question passed two public referendums as required by the Nevada Constitution, the first on November 7, 2000 with 70% of voters supporting and 30% opposing, and the second on November 5, 2002 with 67% of voters supporting and 33% opposing.[1]
The text of the adopted amendment, which is found at Article I, section 21 of the Nevada Constitution, states:
Only a marriage between a male and female person shall be recognized and given effect in this state.[2]
