Abstract
I'm a linguist and an academic; I've written papers in psycholinguistics, rhetorical genre studies, phonology, historical linguistics and HPSG (applied to sound change, in my thesis). I'm half French-Canadian and half anglophone, having lived in Montreal most of my younger years, and in Ottawa for my undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Current Academic
I will soon finish my Maîtrise ès Arts : Français (Linguistique) at Carleton University. My thesis deals with an application of Head-driven phrase structure grammar and natural generative phonology to the understanding of French H aspiré, expanding on the work of Tseng (2002)[1] and Klausenburger (1978)[2].
Degrees (Academic credentials)
I hold a Combined Honours Bachelor's of Arts in Linguistics and French, and a Certificate in French Translation Studies.
Formal graduate training
I have received formal training at the graduate level, and feel confident in my ability to find resources in:
- Linguistics
- Psycholinguistics
- Phonetics
- Phonology
- Rhetorical genre studies
- French
- Second language acquisiton, teaching and didactics
- French grammar and pronounciation
- The works of various authors and philosophers
Formal undergraduate training
I have received formal training at the undergraduate level in
Informal training
I have received informal but rigorous training in
- PHP (I hold a professional certification)
- MySQL
- XML
- Climbing (and bouldering)
Well-read
I have a strong interest and am mostly self-taught in:
- Music theory (I play piano, guitar, bass guitar and oud)
- Philosophy
- Philosophy of science
- Peer review
General
I like to think myself rather well-versed in the academic use of English and of French, and initiated into the style of academic writing and scientific thought. I stress initiated, and not expert (I wouldn't classify myself as an expert before many years deep in a field of study, in any event).
