[edit] Welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, MLA! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Ryan. 12:26, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Battrick and Hattrick

What is the reason for your Battrick link posted on the Hattrick page? I don't see the relevance in an article about Hattrick!?

If you check the WHOIS information for the domain, then there is no link to Extralives, who run Hattrick.

Don G. 00:59, 10 August 2005 (UTC) :-)

Thanks for raising this, I've responded on the relevant Talk page.

[edit] Template:ThamesCrossings

You asked about Template:ThamesCrossings. The reason I created it was to be able to link all the crossings of the Thames. Template:Bridges of Central London covers only bridges (not tunnels and other crossings, such as the Thames Barrier) and only in Central London (not further up- or downstream).

Indeed, if you look on Waterloo Bridge, the article you cited, you'll see that the Bridges… template shows it as being between Hungerford Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge, whereas the …Crossings template shows it as being between the Northern Line (between Embankment and Waterloo) and the Waterloo & City Line.

I understand you concern about the apparent duplication (indeed, I tended to avoid adding {{ThamesCrossing}} to articles that already had Template:River bridge line boxes (such as Chelsea Bridge).

Hope that explains the rationale, even if you still disagree with it ;o) — OwenBlacker 20:05, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Blood Bowl External Links

The main purpose of external links is to display your sources you used to write the article. I must say, there are a lot of links for such a basic article. I'm not sure if it's proper to offer a link to a place where one can download the game. There is a list of criteria for external linking here. While I don't think any of them directly breaks any of the rules, it would be wise to remove a couple. You did the right thing by posting a message on the discussion page before acting. I'd wait until someone else responded before removing anything. Acetic Acid 23:26, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Schalke 04 manager issue

I've made a contribution in the discussion page of FC Schalke 04, in order to explain why I changed the manager field value. Your contributions are welcome. --Angelo 16:26, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Carrie Bradshaw

I've left a message on the above page with instructions of how to view the history of a redirected page, and a direct link so you can see the Carrie Bradshaw. I'd be surprised if you disagree that the contents of that article as it stands are better than a redirect to Sex & City, but be sure to let the community know either way by posting a followup comment at the AFD page. Cheers. --kingboyk 00:01, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AfD on Philippine Cyberservices Corridor

Hey. I hope you could pls visit here again. I hope I could change your mind. --Noypi380 07:39, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Democratic peace theory (Specific historic examples)

I agree that some such article should exist; but not this one, which is a piece of advocacy, drawing selectively from extreme sources within the field (and this exact text has already been deleted once on those grounds). There are arguments on both sides, and on many more wars and conflicts. (See this website for examples.) Since it would have to be completely rewritten (preferably under some shorter title, like wars between democracies) and is available in Talk:Democratic peace theory if needed for raw material, I see no reason to keep it. Septentrionalis 18:27, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Filipino actor stubs

Hey MLA. You contributed to the (withdrawn) AfD on Olivia Cenizal - thoyght you may (or may not) appreciate the heads up. I've put a list of all the stubs I originally tried to batch nominate here, and I'll go through them systematically. All the best, Proto||type 14:16, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cyber Slam

The Cyber Slam entry has been updated. This is far from complete, however I just throught I would inform people. Tigger-oN 10:36, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Man of Nature (1979)

Please revisit this discussion regarding additional articles for deletion. -- Krash (Talk) 17:33, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm fairly sure you won't object to this recent addition to the AfD: Man of Nature IV (1988) -- Krash (Talk) 05:09, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Self-cannibalism

The article, while it could definitely use attention from people iwith special knowledge of psychology/biology/zoology, is improved now I think. It is at least a respectable-looking stub. Шизомби 08:55, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] afd on PlanetFurry

Thanks for the support. I will continue to kill other unworthy articles in the face. SWATJester Ready Aim Fire! 19:22, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Advice request

I came across an improperly formatted AfD on Prostitution in India, it is in the log for Wed 5 April but I have not been able to get it to show up for some reason. It was originally brought by an anon and I think it may have been a bad faith nomination in any case. As you're an admin and someone who is around AfD a fair bit, I wondered whether you'd be able to point me towards either how to get step 2 to work correctly for this one or towards being bold and removing the AfD notice on the article itself. Thanks. MLA 08:08, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for informing me of this, I will take a look at the page now.  (aeropagitica)  11:53, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Hello again! I have taken a look at the article & its history page, along with the user contributions log of 65.144.151.227, and decided that it was a bad faith nomination. As a result, I have removed the AfD notice and I will place a message on the IP's Talk page. Regarding AfD nominations, all that you need to know in order to correctly process a page can be found on Template:AfD_in_3_steps. Please ask if you have any questions once you have read this page. Regards,  (aeropagitica)  12:03, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you, MLA!
Thank you! ...for voting in my RFA. It passed with a result of 58/2/0. If you have any comments, or for some reason need any new-admin help, please let me know here. Regards, ProhibitOnions 22:59, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Old Skool Esperanzial note

Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the support on my RFA. Unfortunately, it did not achieve consensus. I look forward to your support in a couple months when I apply again. Holler at me if you need anything. SWATJester Ready Aim Fire! 19:18, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blnguyen's RfA

Hello Mad Lord. Thank you for your support at request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. If you need any admin assistance, feel free to ask me, and naturally, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out and I look forward to working with you in the future, Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 06:52, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Democratic peace theory (specific historic examples)

This article has been recreated in a different format. You discussed the deletion of a previous version; please comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Possible wars between liberal democracies; it may be that this version is less POV. Septentrionalis 21:14, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pierre S Rosen

Hey MLA, thanks for fixing my AfD nomination. To be fair I think this one is a case of a newbie not being fully aware of what wikipedia is about. As opposed to this character.... Coil00 19:30, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Image:WikiThanks.png Hi MLA, thank you for voting in my RFA which failed eventually at a result of (91/51/8). I do not plan to run for adminship until a later date. Once again, I will like to thank you for voting. --Terence Ong (talk | contribs) 14:26, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A large thank you

MLA, thank you so much for your support in the Esperanza Elections! I am honored by your confidence, and look forward to helping shape Esperanza as it continues to flourish. -- Natalya 01:48, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Robot Wars

I hope this is the right place to reply to the message you left me - many thanks for doing so, I've added my vote and will keep a close eye on the outcome. As I mentioned in my vote, I'm hoping to do a lot of work to the Robot Wars articles over the summer months and, once the main article gets a much needed once over, I will probably move onto the competitor articles.

Hopefully they'll be a bit more organised once I get there! ;-)

Many thanks, CountdownCrispy 16:37, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hole In The Doughnut Effect

Thanks !!!! Your help would be appreciated, im getting there with the whole wikipedia thing, but i would appreciate your help. Thankyou (Neostinker 12:39, 21 July 2006 (UTC))

Thanks for your help, it might be better to merge the article with shopping malls then, that way you can clearly see what the term refers too. (Neostinker 12:56, 21 July 2006 (UTC))
Just to let you know that sources have now been added to this article (Neostinker 21:04, 23 July 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Sun tanning

this edit you made to Sun tanning was NOT a removal of a redlinked image. In fact, it was a reversion to a previous version of the page. Please do not use misleading edit summaries. Thank you. Powers 13:11, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

From User talk:LtPowers Thanks for picking up my error on Sun tanning. It was entirely unintentional but completely my fault as a result of having to take short-cuts. MLA 13:26, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
My apologies for not assuming good faith on your part, then. We've had many attempts at removing the images on that page and I was afraid this was yet another, disguised by a misleading edit summary. Happy editing! Powers 13:27, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA and your vote

Hi Mad Lord Anarchy,
Thanks for participating in my RFA! Ultimately, no consensus was reached, but I still appreciate the fact that you showed up to add in your two cents. It's a pleasure to see another wikipedian who knows the value of mono-a-mono communication. You can feel free to talk to me about it or add some advice on my improvement page.

Thank you very much for participating in my RFA, which closed successfully today with a result of (62/18/3). I will go very carefully at first, trying to make sure I don't mess up too badly using the tools, and will begin by re-reading all the high-quality feedback I received during the process, not least from those who opposed me. Any further advice/guidance will be gratefully accepted. I hope I will live up to your trust! Guinnog 14:49, 30 August 2006 (UTC)}

[edit] Long-Overdue RfA Thanks from Alphachimp

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which was successful with a an overwhelmingly flattering and deeply humbling total of 138/2/2 (putting me #10 on the RfA WP:100). I guess infinite monkey theorem has been officially proven. Chimps really can get somewhere on Wikipedia.

With new buttons come great responsibility, and I'll try my best to live up to your expectations. If you need assistance with something, don't hesitate to swing by my talk page or email me (trust me, I do respond :)). The same goes for any complaints or comments in regard to my administrative actions. Remember, I'm here for you.

[edit] The Gorean lifestyle from the Gorean point of view

Whether under a header of that name or another name, a section like this will eventually have to be added to Gorean if it is to become a good article, since much of the article is now occupied with defining what Goreans are not, and what other people think of them (rather than how Goreans define themselves, and what they actually do). It's not "PoV" to factually report on how a group defines itself and its beliefs and activities -- much of the religion articles currently on Wikipedia are effectively devoted to reporting the "Christian view of Christianity" and the "Muslim view of Islam", etc. and they aren't labelled "PoV". I'm going to restore the header; if you have a constructive suggestions about how to improve its wording, please do so -- but don't delete it out of a simplistic mechanical reference to the Wikipedia "PoV" policy. AnonMoos 01:52, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] David Ruben RfA

MLA, thank you for your support in my RfA which passed on 13th December 2006 with a tally of 49/10/5. I am delighted by the result and a little daunted by the scope of the additional tools; I shall be cautious in my use of them. I am well aware that becoming an Admin is not just about a successful nomination, but a continuing process of gaining further experience; for this I shall welcome your feedback. Again, many thanks for supporting my RfA, feel free to contact me if you need any assistance. :-) David Ruben 01:29, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

Thank you for your support in my recent RfA. I think valid criticisms were raised in areas that I need to work on, so I've withdrawn my name. I intend to work on addressing the concerns that were raised, and think I need to work contributing without allowing myself to become as stressed as I have been at times, which did result in some inappropriate behavior. Perhaps I may re-explore adminship at some point in the future, but it's a little early to consider that. Again, thank you. Fan-1967 21:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed Wikipedia talk:Notability (news)

In the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Murder of Tom ap Rhys Pryce in which you participated, some editors suggested the need for a guideline where a consensus could be reached regarding whether everything which is newsworthy is also encyclopedic. I have created a draft of a proposed guideline Wikipedia talk:Notability (news). Your input is welcome. Thanks. Edison 15:17, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] All-Female bands Discussion

Thank you for your input in the All-Female Band Deletion discussion, because I have no clue as to why the existence of a citation makes a poorly organized article any more valid. I guess you're entitled to write an inconsistently written article if you have an equally inconsistently written source to support it? Hello. May I ask when it was that you used to do boxing? I have a feeling that the answer is never and if this is the case, then I'd appreciate it if kept your 'corrections' to subjects that you are knowledgeable in. [edit] Shingitai Jujitsu

Please note that your notability debate is flawed. Shingitai Jujitsu was founded by John Saylor. Please note his biography per his website,"John Saylor is a former 3-time National Judo Champion, 2-time Pan American Medalist, and coach of the U.S. National Judo Training Squad at the Olympic Training Center for 7 years. In 1987 Saylor was voted Coach Of The Year by the United States Judo Association. Today he coaches submission wrestling, jujitsu, self-defense, and mixed martial arts fighters at his “Barn Of Truth Dojo” in Perrysville, Ohio."

It's philosophy is best described in the University of Tennessee website about Shingitai Jujitsu: http://web.utk.edu/~utmaclub/juji/history.php. A sampling of additional clubs that teach Shingitai Jujitsu philosophy are:

One of my favorite places M'Lord,

Thank you for supporting in my recent RfA. Words nor pictures can express my heartfelt appreciation at the confidence the community has shown me. I am both heartened and humbled by this confidence. I will carry the lessons learned from the constructive criticism I have received with me as I edit Wikipedia, and heed those lessons. Special thanks to Pedro and Henrik as nominators. Special thanks to Rudget who wanted to. A very special thanks to Moonriddengirl for her eloquence.
