Mick Gallagher (also Micky or Mickey) (born October 29, 1945 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England) is a British keyboardist, best known for his membership of Ian Dury and the Blockheads,[1] and for contributions to three albums by The Clash. He specialises in the Hammond organ.

[edit] Biography

Mickey Gallagher started his musical career with The Unknowns. He played with The Animals during 1965, replacing founding member Alan Price. He then formed The Chosen Few, where he played alongside Alan Hull (later part of Lindisfarne). He also played with Skip Bifferty, (Peter) Frampton's Camel, as well as Cochise.

His music was a major contribution to Ian Dury and the Blockheads' sound in the 1970s. He played on London Calling and Sandinista!, two of the most influential Clash albums, and often appeared live with the group. He also played on Cut the Crap, the band's last album (although he was uncredited).

Gallagher contributed music to the films Extremes (1971) and After Midnight (1990), and the Broadway play Serious Money (1988).

He has also performed and recorded with Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox[2].

Gallagher is currently playing with The Blockheads, and with The Animals and Friends with original drummer John Steel.
