[edit] Incidents
In response to an arrest made Thursday, 29 February 2008, a violent riot broke out the following day (Friday). Miami-Dade Police, Miami-Dade County School Police, and FHP officials reported to the scene. The contentious Thursday incident involved a student being arrested by an Assistant Principal and a school police officer. Some reports say that the Assistant Principal used excessive force, including a choke hold, on the student; other reports indicate the student was the aggressor. On Friday, students protested during their lunch, but things got out-of-hand when students started throwing "food items" and water-bottles (filled with water) at Miami-Dade County Police Officers. Several students and police officers were injured, resulting in many student arrests, and causing the school to be put on "lockdown."
