Mega Man III (DOS) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mega Man III (DOS)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mega Man III was a game made for the DOS as part of the ever-popular Mega Man series. Released in 1992 by Hi-Tech Expressions in the US, it is the sequel to the first Mega Man DOS game, which is strange as there was never a Mega Man II released for the format. In addition, it has the same box art as the North American version of Mega Man III for the NES.

[edit] Story

The story is actually nearly identical to the first PC game. Dr. Wily has reconstructed Crorq and has also created a brand new batch of Robot Masters. Mega Man must set out to stop them again.

[edit] Robot Masters

This game has six Robot Masters, more than the first game, and more reminiscent of the first three Mega Man game for the NES.

Robot Master Weapon
Torch Man Torch Arm
Bit Man Bit Cannon
Blade Man Blade Launcher
Oil Man Oil Stream
Shark Man Shark Boomerang
Wave Man Water Shooter

In Wily's fortress, the player fights the Robot Masters again in predetermined intervals, similar to the first NES game. After defeating them, the player faces the final group of bosses.

Dr. Wily II

[edit] PC and console differences

  • The Robot Masters' designs have been criticized as being subtle (some blatant) copies of other Robot Masters from the previous series with only minor retouches[citation needed]:
    • Blade Man appears as though he is a purple Metal Man with a spear.
    • Bit Man appears to be a portmanteau of both Hard Man and Crash Man, having nearly the exact same face as Hard Man, with arms bearing resemblance to Crash Man.
    • Torch Man appears to be a crimson Magnet Man without the magnet on his forehead.
    • Wave Man appears nearly identical to Air Man, with six turrets in a hexagonal formation replacing the fan.
    • Oil Man appears to be a crimson Flash Man, with a spout at the top of his head.
    • Shark Man appears to be a blue and gray Snake Man with a shark's head.
  • Another Robot Master also named Wave Man had appeared in Mega Man 5, but his appearance and his weapons are totally different from the one in the PC incarnation.
  • Oil Man was later reintroduced in Mega Man Powered Up, but as with Wave Man, his appearance and his weapons are totally different from the one in the PC incarnation.
  • "Torch Man" ends up being the English edited name for FireMan.EXE in the MegaMan NT Warrior anime series, but there's no relation to the Robot Master from the PC game.
  • "Shark Man" appears as a Net Navi in the Mega Man Battle Network videogames, but there's no relation to the Robot Master from this PC game.
  • In this game, Mega Man swims rather than walking along the bottom of the water. This would later be a feature of Mega Man 8.
