I have made major changes to this page - I propose it NOT be subsumed within the main Kali entry as there is a difference in interpretation.

Can you elaborate as to why it's different enough to merit its own page, especially since it's an interpretation of the same Goddess? Most of the information on the two pages is overlapping, whereas one looking for information on Kali would go to the Kali page and might not even know the Mahakali page exists. I certainly didn't at first, and felt like information had been needlessly hidden from me. I am adding the merge tag.--Snowgrouse 19:07, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

This page should be merged with Kali

Kali and Mahakali are the same Goddess. So this article must be merged in Kali--Redtigerxyz 12:17, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Mahakali is a very specific form of the Goddess in the Shakta religion. I am not sure if you are a Shakta Hindu or not, but I happen to be, and all of the forms of the Goddess have important distinctions - if Wikipedia is to be complete and show the complexities of religion instead of boiling things down to easily digestible chunks which may not provide all of the relevant information, forms of Kali need their own entries, albeit linked off of the main Kali page. If I had the time (and perhaps I will), certainly at least Dakshinakali and Bhavatarini deserve their own pages. Mahakali MAY be simply an epithet for Kali Ma, but in advanced Shaktism which goes beyond merely being able to identify a Goddess (but not Her particular FORM, which is very important), the forms of Kali all have distinct properties. for instance Dakshinakali is generally considered more beneficent, and will always have her weapons in Her left hands and not Her right. this difference is very important for actual practitioners. I would like people to get a clear view of Shaktism in it's variances in a way that would be worthy of scholars, as opposed to only being of passing interest. in my mind, representing my religion correctly is an important step in making Wikipedia an invaluable resource as opposed to a limited one.--Sedusa66 06:32, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Also, the main picture seems to have been deleted. I will provide another one when I have the chance--Sedusa66 06:44, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Do you mean Mahadeva or Mahakali? Mahadeva is another name for Shiva! GizzaDiscuss © 12:28, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Gizza, I think s/he means Mahadevi. The great goddess. Xuchilbara (talk) 07:15, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
