[edit] Song History
The song was released as the second single of Estefan's Abriendo Puertas album, the song itself has a religious background, throughout the song it could be heard a church bell ringing, also this song became famous because Estefan sang it to the Pope John Paul II on the celebration of his 50 years of Priesthood, this act also made Gloria the first pop singer, to be invited to sing to the Pope.
Gloria was asked several times to perform to the pope while he was at Cuba, but she declined the offer because she wouldn't sung in a Cuba who was under the regime of Fidel Castro. However, on the celebration of Pope John Paul II she has the opportunity to sing this special song to him, and asked to the pope to pray for a free-Cuba.
