[edit] History
The 549 was brought into the routes operated under Transport for London contracts in 2003[citation needed]. Prior to this it had been operated by Arriva East Herts & Essex and West's Coaches as the 249.
[edit] Vehicles
Arriva Shires & Essex used Dennis Darts and sometimes, Alexander ALX200s which were usually used on the London Buses route 397 out of their Debden garage. Docklands Buses used Optare Solos but Caetano Nimbuses often made an appearance, now it mainly uses a Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Dart/MCV Evolution.
