It should be noted that bus travel is considered safer than most types of road travel, even though most accidents in this list involve a bus.

  • Flag of Egypt February 18 – A crowded bus carrying 90 students overturns and plunges into an irrigation canal at Benha, Kfar Saad, Egypt, killing 77.
  • Flag of the United States March 22 – In Congers, New York, five Nyack High School students are killed and 44 injured when a train hits a school bus that failed to stop at a crossing. This incident led New York State to require school vehicles to stop at all railroad crossings.
  • Flag of the Netherlands 25 August – In a sudden dense fog on highway A16 near Prinsenbeek, many cars and trucks collide. 13 lives are lost in the crash and subsequent fires.[11] After this accident, a fog warning system was installed along the route.
