List of Ancient Mamodo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is a List of Ancient Mamodo, characters in the anime series Zatch Bell!.

Contents

[edit] History

In Zatch Bell!, the Ancient Mamodo are mamodo who fought for the position of King 1000 years before the present time in the series. The fight was relatively the same as the current competition for King, except for the inclusion of one deadly mamodo. This mamodo, Goren of the Stone, had the ability to cast any mamodo into a stone block, effectively winning the fight and preventing said mamodo from returning to the mamodo world. This scenario played out all over the world, with Goren sealing mamodo after mamodo into stone. A thousand years after this event, the stones were gathered from all parts of the world in a grand scheme perpetrated by the mamodo Zofis. Zofis used his psychic abilities as well as the stone of moonlight to simultaneously free the mamodo and force them to fight.

Most of the bookkeepers are descendants of the original bookkeepers, brainwashed and deprived of all emotions but anger by Zofis.

In episode 77, a large majority of the Ancient Mamodo were sent back to the Mamodo world by Brago with one attack, Baber Gravidon.

[edit] Ancient Mamodo characters

[edit] Goren of the Stone and Maurice

Goren of the Stone (石のゴーレン Ishi no Goren?) and Maurice (モーリス?) were the team who defeated the most opponents in the battle 1000 years ago. Using their petrification spell Dioga Gorgogeo, they could entomb their enemies and their books in stone tablets. Goren did this all over the world, and although his rampage was eventually halted, it is unknown who defeated him.

[edit] Bahking and Sari

Bahking (バキング) and Sari (サリー) are one of the minor teams. In the manga, they were one of the teams Zofis set against Zatch, only to be defeated by Brago using Baber Gravidon. In the anime, Bahking shows up at the masked ball that Zofis invites Zatch and Kiyo to, and is defeated when Zofis uses Sari as a shield to stop a Zakeruga blast. Bahking's role in the manga final battle was given to Ibaris in the anime, creating a minor plot hole of Ibaris appearing to be in two places at once.

Zatch halts the mindless mamodo by hugging him, but realizes he is beyond help and decides to send him back.

Victoream (ビクトリーム Vikutorīmu?) and Mohawk Ace (モヒカン・エース Mohikan ēsu?) are the first team encountered by the group after they successfully penetrate the Devolo Ruins. Their power is V-shaped lasers. Victoream has a zany attitude and a taste for melons which come to a head in his "Very Melon" song and dance, which he is very proud of, and he becomes angry if anyone interrupts it. In spite of his odd behavior, he is extremely strong and because of his detachable head, from which he can spin while shooting lasers, can cover a lot of ground in combat. His partner, while still silent like most of the other Ancient Mamodo bookkeepers, exhibits a little bit of personality and Victoream is somewhat attached to him. After their book is burned, Victoream and Mohikan Ace re-appear in the anime as Folgore wished to make a movie about him. In the anime and bonus materials, it is revealed that Victoream and Belgim E.O. have a rivalry.

Victoream is one of the mamodo who appears to Zatch when his book glows golden during the fight with Clear Note. He explains that he is helping because he was able to bring a melon seed back to the mamodo world, which "gave birth to a million melons".

[edit] Laila and Albert

Laila (レイラ Reira?) and Albert (アルベール?) (pronounced "Al-bair") are the second team that the group encounters after penetrating the Deboro Ruins. Laila's powers are moon-based and revolve around the moon-tipped staff that is her primary weapon. They are accompanied by Dalmos and Elizabeth, who attack the group; but Laila does not fight, instead helping Tia, Megumi and Ponygon to escape. Zofis learns of this and orders Laila to stay under the Stone of Moonlight and keep the invaders from destroying it, or else she will be turned to stone. She at first obeys out of fear, but Kiyo's encouragement and the partial awakening of Albert helps her overcome it.

Laila and Albert help the group fight the terrifying Demolt, and although Laila does well against the monster, his bookkeeper gives him more intelligence than he had in the past. When Penny and Uri shatter the Stone of Moonlight, though, Albert fully awakens and is able to use Laila's spellbook to its full ability, creating moonbeams that restrict movement and assisting greatly in the fight against Demolt. After Demolt and subsequently Zofis are defeated, Laila asks Zatch to burn her book, as she has no place in the current battle for the Mamodo Kingship. She kisses Albert on the cheek for being a good partner before she goes.

Laila later reappears as one of the mamodo spirits who help Zatch when his book becomes gold during the fight with Clear Note. She and Pamoon surround Clear Note with moons and stars, and Victoream causes them to fire V-shaped lasers.

[edit] The Four Supreme Mamodo/ The Four Heavenly Kings

[edit] Pamoon and Lance

Pamoon (パムーン Pamūn?) and his modern-day bookkeeper Lance (ランス Ransu?) are the Supreme Mamodo team that Zatch, Kiyo, Ponygon and Kafk face. Pamoon is also the only Ancient Mamodo whose first bookkeeper from 1000 years ago, Shelby, is seen, in flashbacks fighting Goren. His power revolves around the stars around him that he can move at will and cause to fire powerful lasers. He can also attach them to his own body to gain even more power. At first, Pamoon fights fiercely against Zatch and Ponygon, but he eventually reveals that he fights merely out of a fear of being turned back into stone. When Zatch promises to be Pamoon's friend in the Mamodo world, Pamoon eventually gets over his fear and sides with Zatch and the rest, but is discovered by Zofis, who burns his book. Because of this, Pamoon realizes that Zofis is unable to turn the ancient mamodo back into stone, and remains allies with Zatch to the end.

In the manga, he has reappeared along with Victoream, Laila and other present-day mamodo to help Zatch fight Clear Note. He uses his stars along with Laila's moons to surround Clear.

[edit] Belgim E.O. and Dalia Anjé

Belgim E.O. (ベルギム・E・O Berugimu E.O.?), one of the Four Supreme Mamodo, and his present-day bookkeeper Dalia Anjé (ダリア・アンジェ Daria Anje?) are confronted by Kanchomé and Parco Folgore and Kido and Dr. Riddles in the ruins. Belgim E.O. sits on an oversized throne and rarely moves from it, although he is capable of standing on his own. His spells revolve around ghosts. Dalia Anjé is not controlled by Zofis, but seems genuinely insane, as her only dialog outside of reading spells is mad laughter. Belgim E.O. is very powerful, but easily appeased if he is entertained, although if he becomes bored, he gets angry and attacks. The "E.O." stands for Intolerant Overlord [sic] (in the Japanese version, it stands for 椅子 isu, meaning chair, which starts with the hard E sound, and お仕置き oshioki, meaning punishment, which starts with the hard O sound). Belgim is eventually defeated by Kido's most powerful spell, Mikor Ma Zegaruga, although Kido's own book is burned in the process.

[edit] Tsao-Lon and Genso

Tsao-Lon (ツァオロン Tsaoron?) and his modern-day bookkeeper Gensou (玄宗 Gensō?) are one of the Ancient Mamodo teams in the ruins. Wonrei and Li-en and Tia and Megumi Oumi fight them. Gensou, unlike most of the modern bookkeepers recruited by Zofis, is not controlled. He agreed to help Zofis merely because he and Tsao-Lon shared a desire to battle strong opponents. Tsao-Lon's powers revolve around his staff, with his strongest spell summoning a shark spirit from it. Because of Gensou's skill as a fighter, they prove to be a very difficult match for the mamodo teams, but are eventually defeated by a powered-up Rao Diboren from Wonrei.

[edit] Demolt and Roberto Vile

Demolt (デモルト Demoruto?) and Roberto Vile (ローベルト・ヴァイル Rōberuto Vairu?) are the final Ancient mamodo/human team that Zatch, Kiyo and their friends face. Demolt is the last and most powerful of the Four Supreme Mamodo from a thousand years ago, and was nicknamed the "Crazed Warrior Berserker" because of his massive size and power. His spell powers revolve around the claws on his hands, one of the spells allowing him to use them as a handheld weapon. However, Demolt is not very intelligent; his power as a servant of Zofis comes from his bookkeeper, Roberto Vile, whose mind is not controlled and plans to use the Stone of Moonlight to control the minds of humans after Zofis becomes king. Demolt becomes annoyed with his bookkeeper, though, and swallows him, gaining his intelligence and becoming more powerful. Zatch, Kiyo and his friends eventually use teamwork and Zatch's new spell to defeat him, and Wonrei makes the final attack that burns Demolt's book. Fearful for his life, the agitated Vile runs away shortly afterward.

[edit] King Bell

The winner of the last mamodo battle is an immense thunder elementalist with two children, Zatch and Zeno. He is the instigator of the current mamodo battle to determine his heir. Although he originally appeared cruel, he actually chose to separate his two sons due to Zatch inheriting his Baou power, which turned out for the better due to his knowledge of Zeno's ease of gaining a corruptible, detestable heart that would end up using Baou out of his own anger. Since Zatch was seen as a kinder child, he separated the two, hoping to protect him from becoming corrupted from the knowledge of his ultimate power and what he can do with it, even if this separation lead to the miserable upbringing for both twins, Zatch for the horrible treatment of his foster parents, and Zeno's resentment and training due to not having the Baou power. He may be a peaceful king, as the mamodo world shown in several flash backs as a peaceful looking place.

Although he is a mamodo from a thousand years ago, he is not included in the previous list because he is the current king, not one of Goren's stone victims.
