[edit] Re: Netball team

Quite welcome, let me know if you have trouble in the future. I'll work on some documentation for your template now - while I was fixing it, I tweaked a few of your parameters around to make them work better. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:07, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I just made the templates

but on Black Sticks Men the colours on the shorts don't work.

Thanks heaps Matt 13:12, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

I've tracked down the error (or at least, can point you in the right direction. On Template:Male field hockey kit the text referred to "skirt" (had you copied the template over from the ladies?) - I've changed this to shorts (the diff should show you my alteration), and hey presto... No problem - we're all human...you don't want to know how many times I've had to spend hours debugging code to get rid of a stray full-stop...at least yours was easy to spot! Giles Bennett (Talk, Contribs) 21:51, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Netball World Championships series

Hi, firstly, thanks for all your invaluable work on Netball, an underrepresented sport on Wikipedia. You will no doubt notice that I have put merge tags on two of the sub-articles you created yesterday. The lead article Netball World Championships is not much more than a stub, and I think that the small amount of additional information on History_of_the_Netball_World_Championship and Netball World Championship hosts would be better used to expand the main article.

Of the yet to be created articles, Qualification and Records and statistics both sound fine as additional articles. Team appearances does too, as it would represent a cross-tabulation from the individual tournament articles.

Trophy should probably be a section in the main article, and I have absolutely no idea what you envisage with The Final.

Lastly, if you are writing articles on individual New Zealand Netballers, please link to them from the births section of the relevant "Year in new Zealand" article (e.g. 1974 in New Zealand#Births) dramatic 23:03, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect of COSANA tournament

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on COSANA tournament, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because COSANA tournament is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting COSANA tournament, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:BlackSticks.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:BlackSticks.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:55, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of The Pulse (netball)

A tag has been placed on The Pulse (netball) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Netball skirts

{{helpme}} I was trying to edit the netball kit template (Template:Netball kit Template:Netball team) but it has all gone bung. Matt 22:49, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

What is the problem with it? - Rjd0060 23:25, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
See Botswana national netball team 203.97.223.183 00:31, 16 November 2007 (UTC) (Matt 00:32, 16 November 2007 (UTC))
Yes, the template is definitely not working as intended. Lanma, I notice you're the creator and main editor of the template, the template in its current form is resulting in display issues, but I'm unable to find the coding issues after a quick glance. You can see basic information in Help:Infobox, and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (infoboxes), but you may wish to ask someone who has done many of these to help you. You could request assistance at Village pump. ArielGold 01:49, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chants R&B

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Chants R&B, because another editor is suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. -- Swerdnaneb 07:15, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries

Thanks for contributing to the netball articles - I've been watching the netball article itself for a few months and I've noticed how often it is vandalised. However, Please leave an edit summary when reverting a page, preferably noting the username of the edit you reverted. For example, in this edit, your edit summary could have been "revert to last version by Graham87" or, in a shorter form, "rv to last by Graham87". This makes things much easier in case something goes amiss when reverting, which does happen occasionally. I try to put edit summaries on all edits because I think it makes it easier to read the page history. Graham87 07:57, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Jodi Te Huna

A tag has been placed on Jodi Te Huna requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

Skomorokh incite 00:13, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, putting a hangon doesn't do anything. You got to say why not on the talk page. -Goodshoped 00:28, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Jodi Te Huna

Jodi Te Huna, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Jodi Te Huna satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jodi Te Huna and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Jodi Te Huna during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. -Goodshoped 00:30, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Yep, you need to find those refs and put them on the article, then I will close it. Feel free to voice your opinion. -Goodshoped 00:33, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Netball kit blank.png

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Netball kit blank.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 09:12, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Netball skirts

{{helpme}} I am looking for an expert in templates.

I am trying to enable skirt patterns in Template:Netball kit, but have not been able to do so. As an example see Botswana national netball team (from markup) "| pattern_la1 = | pattern_b1 =_white_stars | pattern_ra1 = | pattern_sk1 =_white_stars | leftarm1 =99CCFF | body1 = 99CCFF | rightarm1 =99CCFF | shorts1 = 99CCFF"

I will be because I have adapted all the netball templates from football and rugby ones, thus have messed something up along the way.

Thanks Matt (talk) 20:23, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi Lanma, I've noticed that nobody has been able to assist you for hours now, so I'm going to remove the helpme, and direct you to Village Pump Technical form, where others may be more likely to be able to work with you to fix the template. I hope that helps! ArielGold 23:00, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Adelaide Thunderbirds.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Adelaide Thunderbirds.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 21:53, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Arctic Cordillera

Hi Lanma726. As you seem to be the creator of Image:AppalachianLocatorMap2.png, is it possible you could make a map for the Arctic Cordillera mountain range? It is the only major mountain range in North America that doesn't have a map. Black Tusk 19:20, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Black Tusk 01:50, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Yep, looks good. I'll let you know if there needs to be an adjustment. Black Tusk 10:23, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Just a question (no change). Where did you find the other three small sections of the Arctic Cordillera on southern Baffin Island? I haven't seen any maps that include that part of Baffin Island. However, it seems to make sense to include them because of the large gap between the Torngat Mountains in Labrador and the Baffin Mountains on northeastern Baffin Island. Black Tusk 02:23, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
I see. Do you know the name of these three mountain ranges or sections? I'm trying to find as many mountain ranges as I can to expand the Arctic Cordillera article and make more mountain range articles related to the cordillera. I looked on Google Earth myself and those sections are snow-covered so they must be pretty high mountain ranges like the rest of the range.
Also, the Arctic Cordillera appears to branch off northwest from Devon Island to Cornwalls Island, Ellef Ringnes Island, Lougheed Island, Edmund Walker Island, Grosvemnor Island, Helena Island, Sherard Osborn Island, Cameron Island, Bathurst Island, Bradford Island, Little Cornwalls Island, Milne Island, Houston Stewart Island, Baillie Hamilton Island etc. Is it possible to make the earthquake swarm map on the site here? Black Tusk 22:51, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi Lanma726. I searched the islands I listed above and they appear to have mountain ranges. Bathurst Island contains mountain ranges called the Scoresby Hills, Grogan Morgan Range and Jeffries Range. Mountain ranges on northwestern Devon Island include Grinnell Range, Haddington Range and Douro Range. The Adam Range lies on Île Vanier. Don't be confused over the Arctic Cordillera ecozone, which covers Ellesmere Island, eastern Devon Island, Bylot Island, eastern Baffin Island and the northernmost tip of Labrador (the Arctic Cordillera mountain system contains the Arctic Cordillera ecozone). The map only appears to show the major mountainous areas of the cordillera. If you search Arctic Cordillera on Google Earth it will highlight all the areas related to the Arctic Cordillera mountain system. Perhaps the other sections should be included. I will be adding the islands and ranges above to the article.
Also don't make the earthquake map I said above. Black Tusk 02:23, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MelvinDay1948.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. [edit] Speedy deletion of Taikōria

A tag has been placed on Taikōria requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

[edit] Netball, iwi and waka

Thanks, Matt! User:Dramatic actually made the template for a proposed Netball WikiProject. Dramatic forgot to clear the template with WP:WSS/P first, so I'm trying to bring it up to "speedy create" standard before reporting it at the Discoveries page.

BTW, great work on the Māori iwi and Māori waka articles. You've done an awesome amount of work in two days. Great to see! Liveste (talkedits) 23:08, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the correction Liveste! I have listed the Netball-stub template at the WP:WSS/P (which I discovered 10 minutes after creating it!), and it seems to be getting support there. I hope both of you will indicate support for a project at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Netball. I've started building a project page behind the scenes at User:Dramatic/Netball, and will work on some of the sub-templates and a project banner this weekend. Feel free to suggest any components you like from other projects! (I've used the rugby union one as a basis so far - looked much better organised than the basketball project) dramatic (talk) 23:39, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Netball WikiProject

I'm not actually interested in netball at all ... I only watch the article netball because of the ridiculous amount of vandalism it gets. I seemed to be the only one watching the article from July to October last year. So I support the project's creation ... I'm just not much into adding content. Graham87 00:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Te Āti Awa

Hi again :-) Why does the map in Te Āti Awa depict Wellington and Nelson (which isn't mentioned in the article at all) rather than Wellington and Taranaki? dramatic (talk) 03:08, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

ok, looking at [1] you missed the area around New Plymouth also labelled as Te Ati Awa. Since Nelson is shared with a number of other iwi, I wonder if it would make sense to use a diluted colour there, and add a note?

[edit] Netball WikiProject

Hey, I've gone ahead and created a Netball WikiProject (Wikipedia:WikiProject Netball). I think with four of us who seem pretty interested, there's plenty we should be able to get done. Rebecca (talk) 00:54, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Netball

Rats, you beat me to it! Never mind, the template looks good, and it's generally similar to the one I was thinking of. I might add a few parameters and a "Usage" section. Feel free to have a look at my template at User:Liveste/Sandbox and see if there are any other changes you might think are worthwhile. Cheers. Liveste (talkedits) 00:19, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Iwi locator maps

Hey Matt. I have spend quite a bit of time this morning moving your iwi locator maps to the Wikimedia commons so they can be used on all wikipedias, including the Maori one. I have put them into Category:Maori tribal maps on commons. I also removed the macrons, spaces and/or underscores from the file names that I saved them under at Commons, to avoid any cross-platform compatibility issues and to make it easier for people who don't know how to type macrons. I saw the comments above about different shades etc - I think that might make verification too hard and it would be better to stick to your source map without adding interpretations - many tribal areas overlap, and that is not necessarily a strange thing in the Maori world view. Also adding comments or notes onto the images would drastically reduce their usability on wikipedias in other languages. It might be a good idea if you are adding any more of these to upload them directly to the Commons - you can use the GDFL tag there too, and it would also be good to place them into the category I mentioned before for use on Commons. If you use this when uploading on commons you should have no worries:

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:2011 singapore.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:2011 singapore.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 21:33, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Ngāti Apa.png

Image Copyright problem

Hi Lanma726!
We thank you for uploading Image:Ngāti Apa.png, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Maorimix.jpg}

Thank you for uploading Image:Maorimix.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Copyright problems

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Image:NatLibWGTN.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). As a copyright violation, Image:NatLibWGTN.jpg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Image:NatLibWGTN.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Image:NatLibWGTN.jpg and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Image:NatLibWGTN.jpg with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Image:NatLibWGTN.jpg.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you. XLerate (talk) 12:25, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, in the in image itself you could see three copyright symbols, not all flickr users understand or respect copyright. Regarding the building model it would be necessary to find the owner and terms. In any case, I think a photo of the building exterior may be better, if you're not in Wellington you can ask a wikipedian who is. XLerate (talk) 00:00, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Netball kits

Good work on the netball kits, they look great! Was hoping to get them done myself but haven't been unable :P - glad they've been dne and done well. Keep up the good work! Gialloneri (talk) 05:47, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Cheers mate.

[edit] Iwi

Awesome work on the iwi articles. Were you aware that the Māori wikipedia has hundreds of iwi and hapū stubs - I think there may be something like 1100 but I'm not certain. Here are the links to the Tainui ones for example. You may be able to reuse the templates for the iwi and hapu without much editing. If you look at an individual tribe's page on the MW, like mi:Ngāti Maniapoto or mi:Ngāti Raukawa, the subtribes of that tribe are listed in a template on the bottom. The source information for these is the National Library Website. The list given on this Wikipedia (based on an old one from the Māori Wikipedia that was prepared by users who had no Māori language) is not that accurate, and tends not to distinguish unrelated tribes with similar names from different rohe. The national library listings are pretty accurate for the most part, and they are systematic and comprehensive. Anyway, might be a help Kahuroa (talk) 10:17, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Don't use mfd for articles in article space, use afd. Since there has already been an afd once before on this person, you'll need to follow the directions for submitting a second afd. Corvus cornixtalk 23:46, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
