Kosai (湖西市 Kosai-shi?) is a city located in Shizuoka, Japan.
As of 2007, the city has an estimated population of 45,980(23,719 males, 22,261 females) and the density of 799.99 persons per km². The total area is 55.08 km². The city has two Central Japan Railway Company train stations, Washizu station and Shinjohara station. It is also home to Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd.'s Kosai assembly plant, Suzuki's main domestic production plant.
The city was founded on January 1, 1972.
The name of the city means "west of the lake". It refers to Lake Hamana.
