[edit] Giant Clam

That giant clam is enormous. Enormously awesome.

[edit] Piano Concerto No. 1 (Chopin)

At Piano Concerto No. 1 (Chopin) you removed 'critical' from the sentance, "There are two schools of critical thought concerning the piece." This was there to indicate that they are two differing critical opinions, i.e. opinions espoused by critics, and I think the word needs to remain, but don't want to go putting it back there if you've got a particular reason for not allowing it. Mallocks 20:00, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

I removed it from there because it said that there were two schools of critical thoughts while only the first one really is. That is if one sees the word critical in a negative light as a harsh and sometimes negative judgement. But if you feel that the word critical was in its right place, feel free to put it back. Janderk 16:06, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
I've tried to edit it so that it more accurately reflects what I was trying to say Mallocks 18:56, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
Looks good to me now thanks. Janderk 14:19, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Nudibranch toxonomy edit

Could you please review the toxonomy edit I did on Nudibranch entry. This came up in a list of punctuation problems which I am reviewing and editing. I modified the first two lines and indented everything else under it.

  • Subclass Orthogastropoda Ponder & Lindberg, 1997 (earlier Prosobranchia, Opisthobranchia)

If that is incorrect, then please adjust the list tags so it won't get caught by the puctuation police again.

[edit] Pic of the day

Hi Janderk,

Just to let you know that your photo Image:Common clownfish.jpg is due to make a reappearance as Pic of the Day next Monday. I've reused the same caption as last time, but you can make any changes at Wikipedia:Picture of the day/August 29, 2005. -- Solipsist 21:32, 23 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Do you have a bigger clownfish?

Hi Janderk

a picture you uploaded has been listed on WP:FPC for possible removal from Wikipedia:Featured pictures mainly because it is too low resolution to meet current standards for FP, which prefer images large enough to allow quality reproduction. If you happen to have a higher resolution version available, could you please upload it? That would certainly influence the decision. Cheers, ~ VeledanTalk 22:08, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes I got a much bigger version, but it needs some tweaks. Also, it is not up to studio quality as I haven't managed to do perfect macros with my amature gear at 20 meter below sealevel while the reef currents are moving me, the anemone and the fishes around. I will see if I can get it uploaded when I have time. In the mean time I suggest to just unlist it. There must be much better clown fish/sea anemone pictures available. Janderk 00:22, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barracuda

You messed up the movement of the image so that a portion of the page's text ended up in the image caption; see [1]. You're welcome to move the image so it works in more browsers, but please check the results a bit more carefully! Gdr 11:36, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures

It seems to me that the problem with Firefox's alignment of the pictures in articles like boxfish is a problem with the interaction between Wikipedia's image code and Firefox's rendering algorithm best fixed by changing the Wikimedia code for images rather than editing all pages that do whatever it is that goes wrong. I'll try to put together a bug report. Gdr 21:03, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The arkive link

I answered the exact same question here. I did not remove it specifically from the Manta Ray article. Circeus 22:56, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Looks like you and User:UtherSRG reverted most of my mess already. I undid the leftovers. Sorry about the whole thing. Guess that doesn't bode well for me *sigh*. Circeus 23:50, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Beethoven wiki.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Beethoven wiki.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 11:00, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the response and tagging again the image. It was vandalism and anonymous user untagged the image. Sorry for being bothered you. But thousands of images are still untagged, so it is difficult to distinguish that was it really untagged initially or by vandalisn has it been untagged. Regards, Shyam (T/C) 19:47, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Arles Image Web Page Creator

Hi Jan Derk!
I see your clown fish got delisted as a FP. Too bad, but here's something that might ease the disappointment, Arles Image Web Page Creator seems to be using your clown fish image as their official emblem: http://www.digitaldutch.com/arles/screenshots/ (see the top of the page). They've actually been doing it for a while, but I never noticed it was the same photo as your clown fish.
Hope that bit of news is of interest! --Fir0002 www 08:13, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A Minor Barnstar

Hi, I noticed your tweaks to external links on Vincent van Gogh which is on my watchlist, and was very impressed with this quality attention to detail, which I think helps a lot to create a good impression for Wiki. I noticed you've been doing a lot of similar work and hope you will accept this barnstar which recognises such "minor" edits. Thanks. Tyrenius 21:10, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your common clownfish picture has been nominated for delisting!

Hello. Your common clownfish picture, currently displayed on the clownfish article has been nominated for delisting as a featured picture at Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/Common_clownfish. Unfortunatley, the image no longer meets FP standards. If you have a higher resolution copy of the image please feel free to upload it. --Every1blowz 12:52, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Done. A 1600x1200 pixel version is now available. Janderk 09:29, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Note on March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom

You voted in opposition to the recent FPC for a picture of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom because it did not feature Dr. King. You are free to vote however you wish, but as has already been pointed out by another voter, King was by no means the only speaker and this image is not being used to display King or the I have a dream speech. Staxringold talkcontribs 22:54, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Oceanic Whitetip belongs in the Primary paragraph with Tiger, Bull and GW not in the Mako, Hammerhead paragraph

Take a look at the Importance to Humans section on the Oceanic whitetip shark page. It essentially says (I didn't write this statement but have seen it in one of Jacques Cousteau's books), that the Oceanic whitetip over the long course of human history has killed far more people than the Great White, Tiger and Bull combined.

Why? Because these are mid-ocean attacks that result from ship and plane disasters that nobody (or very few people) lives to tell about; therefore, in modern day shark indices (like the List of fatal, unprovoked shark attacks in the United States by decade page that I did) very few documented attacks are noted.

The Oceanic Whitetip is #1 by a wide margin, so it belongs with the 2GW 3Tiger &4Bull --Hokeman 16:36, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Invite to Project sharks

Hi!

I have wanted to start a project with the purpose to improve our shark related articles for a long time, but never though we had enough people, now after all the nice collaboration on the Shark attack page I must take the chance of inviting you to try to start up a project sharks. I have had the preliminary writeup on my user page for a long time, please visit, update and edit as you see fit and I hope that you will consider joining. I do not have as much time for wikipedia as I would like to and the next 2-3 weeks will be almost no time, but I still try to get this project running, please join and please invite as many others as you know that might be interested. Thanks. Stefan 14:09, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Himalaya

Dear Jan, An admininstrator apparently changed the entry "Himalaya" (that you had been instrumental in creating) back to "Himalayas." I've added my 2 cents worth to the discussion page for "Himalayas." Although I don't feel strongly either way about this issue, on balance I agree with you. I think you should request a reversion of the edit (through the channels that the admin mentions in his note.) Stiwari 00:52, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks!

Thanks for making your image of the black triggerfish freely available! I've used it in chapter 4 of this book: http://www.lightandmatter.com/area1book3.html You are credited in the photo credits section at the end of the book.--207.233.88.25 19:26, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Sistine.chapel.entire.500pix.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days.
