The Jackson family is an American family from Gary, Indiana whose members are among the most successful and influential figures in modern popular music. Sales clerk/housewife Katherine Jackson and steel mill worker Joseph Jackson (ex-member of an R&B band called The Falcons with brother Luther) raised their nine children in a two bedroom house. Their mother but not their father was a Jehovah's Witness. Well-known for being strict, Joseph Jackson was later accused by his children of abuse.

Each Jackson child found some level of popular success in the R&B, pop, and blues musical scenes. The five oldest brothers in the Jackson family each served tenures in an R&B/soul band known as The Jackson 5, which was the best-selling act on Motown during the early 1970s. After 1976, when the group left Motown Records for CBS, youngest brother Randy replaced Jermaine, and (due to a legal dispute) the band became known as the The Jacksons. Among the six brothers, Michael and Jermaine went on to have significant success as solo performers, with Michael becoming the most successful solo performer in popular music history, according to the Guinness World Records[1]. Rebbie and LaToya Jackson enjoyed brief periods of modest musical success, while Janet followed Michael's path into superstardom.
Many of this generation of the Jacksons' children have gone onto success in solo careers, the most notable being 3T: the three sons of Tito.

1984 was the only year that all nine (surviving) Jackson siblings had albums on the market. In addition to The Jacksons' Victory album & tour, Rebbie's Centipede album yielded a top 5 R&B hit with its title track, La Toya's Heart Don't Lie album produced three Billboard hits, and Janet's second album Dream Street was released, which produced the top ten R&B hit, "Don't Stand Another Chance".
Michael and Janet are the most successful siblings in musical history, with 23 number one singles (Michael with 13 and Janet with 10) on the Billboard Hot 100 between the both of them. Michael is one of the biggest selling solo artists of all time and Janet as well.
Between 2000 and 2004 Jermaine Jackson also co-authored a controversial book proposal with former family confidante, Stacy Brown, called "Legacy." The book was said to center around Jackson's inner-most thoughts on his brother Michael's guilt or innocence in molesting children. Brown and Jackson had a falling out after Brown joined with former Jackson publicist and Motown guru Bob Jones to pen Michael Jackson: The Man Behind The Mask. A tome, published at the end of Michael Jackson's criminal trial, by Select Books, Inc. Though Jermaine admitted writing with Brown, the two differ on the accounts of the book, which was not published after Brown and Randy Jackson reached an undisclosed settlement to give tape recordings and other materials to a mutually agreed third party.
La Toya and Rebbie Jackson share the same birthday making La Toya exactly 6 years younger than her older sister.
