[edit] mythology

Szia,

For whenever you get back: how well-versed are you in Hungarian mythology? I'm rather preoccupied with it (and ancient Hungarian history, and the tantalizing instances of overlap between the two) lately and it might be fun, as well as a nice change of pace, to work on some articles on those topics for a while. (I just spent the better part of an hour writing the legend of the Csodaszarvas in as much detail as I can remember off the top of my head--which is actually a lot--on this page, but then I somehow hit the wrong button and lost it all. ARGH.) Anyway, I hope you're well, and anticipating the imminent arrival of Mikulás at least half as eagerly as I am. ;-) Makes up for the imminent arrival of a blizzard tomorrow where I am...anyway, enough rambling...g'night. :) K. Lásztocskatalk 05:42, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Anonimu

This arbitration case has closed and the final decision is available at the link above. Anonimu is banned from editing Wikipedia by the Arbitration Committee for a period of one year, to run concurrently with the existing indefinite community ban. This notice is given by a Clerk on behalf of the Arbitration Committee. Newyorkbrad (talk) 17:21, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] S&I

Ha! I like that! :P Sadly, dear István, the two are like a magnet—a magnet with two identical poles, that is; they are insoluable in each other. ;) —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  05:22 21 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] a rather early Xmas greeting :)

Aw, Darwinek left you off his list this year...allow me to pick up the slack by wishing you and your family in no uncertain terms a VERY merry Christmas and much luck and happiness in the New Year! Boldog karácsonyt és kellemes új évet kivánok!! :))))) Best, K. Lásztocskatalk 03:53, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

and if I may, if you have a few spare minutes you might want to take a glance here--we're going around in circles and could use a clear-headed third opinion.

[edit] Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas, my friend. May this find you in good health, good spirits, good company, and good finances. If any of these be missing, may God see fit to restore you in good time. —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  05:07 25 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit]  !!!

István--I GOT THE PUSKÁS BOOK--will start in on the article as soon as I can! :) K. Lásztocskatalk 18:44, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

eBay? Keep dreaming! :P I will, however, keep my eyes out for another copy somewhere, and will let you know immediately if and when I find one. (My copy came from England, via one of my dad's old colleagues.)
Don't worry about not being able to spend much time here lately. (I've been around pretty sparsely these past few months myself--finally learned that real life really IS more important than the Wiki!) I miss having you around of course (a subtle joke a day keeps the doctor away) but I understand you're busy with real life. Just don't stay away TOO long, the project always needs more editors like you! :)
Merry Christmas again, and my very best wishes! (give your daughter a Christmas hug from me!) ;-) K. Lásztocskatalk 03:59, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Szigeti again

Almost there...as we speak, I'm coming tantalizingly close to getting some nice 30-second sound clips of his playing off my old vinyl LPs (thank you, modern technology) but there are still a few weird little bugs in the system. Anyway, those should be up by tomorrow evening if all goes well, and then I really will write that section about his family and off-stage life you suggested. THEN I'll put it up for FAC. (Do you think I should submit it for a WikiProject Biography peer review first, or just plunge straight in to the big time? Simple impatience makes me lean towards the latter, but whichever...) K. Lásztocskatalk 05:28, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Ah, that was easier than I thought. (I especially like the Brahms...) K. Lásztocskatalk 06:38, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
If you've got a spare moment or two, I'd like to hear your opinion on this. I can see the rationale behind explicitly identifying someone as Jewish if he were from a country (Russia, Germany etc.) that considered Jewish a separate nationality, but since that wasn't the case in Hungary it seems a bit odd, like identifying Liszt as a "Christian Hungarian composer." But, eh, I'm open to debate...K. Lásztocskatalk 00:16, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

At last! K. Lásztocskatalk 05:43, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hey, wait a minute...

Am I out of my mind, or was this actually an elaborate multilingual pun? Girl peacock = "peahen" = pihen = "relax!" ??? I can't believe it took me all day to figure that one out...but given what else has been going on on-wiki lately, I definitely needed the laugh. Even if I completely misinterpreted the joke (?). K. Lásztocskatalk 05:26, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah. And I thought you'd made the pun of the century...
Oh no, tell me you're not going through more troubles...DAMN the turáni átok, damn it straight to hell!! Why do the worst things always happen to the best people??? My thoughts and prayers are with you, my dear friend! K. Lásztocskatalk 06:15, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Here's a meager offering of consolation for whatever's going on this time--Bartók's ethereally beautiful Third Piano Concerto. This piece always comforts me when I'm stressed or upset or otherwise frazzled...Part 1 Part 2 Part 3. K. Lásztocskatalk 06:44, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] re

Köszönöm szépen. :) I'm just glad it's finished. No, sadly no academic credit to be had, but it DID re-emphasize the need to properly format one's references in scholarly writing (as if my music history professor hadn't hammered that into my head enough.) :) I hope all is well with you and your family! See you around the wiki... K. Lásztocskatalk 14:39, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Yeah...I did take it as a good sign though--if the only problems they could find were nit-picky things like reference punctuation, I knew I'd written a good article. And now you've got me stuck on the word "pinhead" again, thanks... :) K. Lásztocskatalk 06:28, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Hungary

The WikiProject Hungary project page is now operational. WikiProject Hungary is a WikiProject whose aim is to increase the quality of articles related to Hungary and Hungarians. It is chiefly designed to help users collaborate on articles, but also to resolve disputes, and to coordinate work on vandalism clean-up. As a long term plan it was suggested that this notice board should be integrated into the WikiProject as it was done in the case of Poland. Intrested Wikipedians should sign up at the participants page. Discussion about Banners and other issues takes place at the project discussion page. Hobartimus (talk) 17:59, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

Sorry, I kept postponing this, but first, many, many thanks for your support, and second, I quite concur with your assessment. Life will go on, of course, but at a scaled-back editing pace for a while, I would imagine. Best wishes, and I hope your back is fine now. Biruitorul (talk) 14:48, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ides of March

I'm quite honored to be among the elite group of editors you allow to affectionately vandalize your page! :) (Did you see I gave Biru one too? Wonder if he noticed...haha) I'm very glad to hear things are going well for you! Myself, I'm up to my neck in exams, papers and all of a sudden, out of nowhere, Bartok's First Violin Concerto...ack. But I have a break soon and will get back to Wiki-work. :) All the best! K. Lásztocskatalk 21:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:1956 hungary freedomfighter.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1956 hungary freedomfighter.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

[edit] almost certainly

I love how it took them a full month to notice. And yes, next April 1 will indeed be epic. Let's invent a composer and write his biography, in great detail. K. Lásztocskatalk 02:32, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

  • It was an April Fools joke that wasn't caught for over a month? Wow, I came here to tell you off for it, but now that I noticed the creation date, well done.  :) --UsaSatsui (talk) 06:47, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. :^=)
Istvan, your smiley-face has a terribly pronounced case of monophiltrumitis itself...K. Lásztocskatalk 19:27, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Hah! I have my own strange smiley face: :-?
I use it for situations when I don't know how I'm supposed to respond emotionally...Anyway, sorry for spamming on your talk page, István! --Kuaichik (talk) 03:31, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem, guess who this is? ## :^ ]

How clever! Thanks for including the link, or I never would have guessed. Now, should I be ashamed to say I never had any idea who Lyle Lovett was? (In my own self-defense, I'm not much of a movie buff, and I definitely don't know any singer-songwriters. Plus, the movies I know best are all Indian!). --Kuaichik (talk) 04:59, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh Istvan, a man of so many hidden talents. :) Can you do a Gyurcsany/Orban smiley? Or Kossuth? Or someone else? Man, look at how I procrastinate my final ethnomusicology paper...K. Lásztocskatalk 05:00, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I'm limited to just :-? plus the regular AIM smileys :-D
By the way, I forgot just what monofiltrumitis was (other than an April Fool's joke). In what way does István's smiley reflect the, er, disease? :-D --Kuaichik (talk) 05:04, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
It's a smiley with a philtrum, and only one of them. :) K. Lásztocskatalk 07:21, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Ah! And I definitely should be ashamed that I never knew there was a word as expressive as philtrum for that little indenture :) (But hey, I learned something new. I found out that in Persian, it's called búszega). --Kuaichik (talk) 14:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Please

Dear István! I've made a short article: Battle of Capua (1348). Please correct it! Thanks, Kuruc, 19 May, 2008, 9:40 (CEST) —Preceding comment was added at 07:38, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bestfiver.jpg}

Thank you for uploading Image:Bestfiver.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
