Iraq Assistance Group

Iraqi Assistance Group (IAG), is a U.S. military plan with Multi-National Force-Iraq that assigns Military Transition Teams assigned to Iraqi Army units at the Battalion, Brigade and Division level coaching, mentoring, and partnering with them in fighting the Counter Insurgency Battle in Iraq.

The set up and goals of the (IAG) organization are similar to the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) and Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) that sent American military advisors to train, advise and mentor members of the military in Indochina specifically the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), Republic of Vietnam Marine Corps, Republic of Vietnam Navy and the Vietnam Air Force.[1]

The Iraqi Assistance Group is a pivotal key role that would lead to the success of the National Strategy for Victory in Iraq for the United States government to issue the redeployment of U.S. soldiers from Iraq.

Currently all Army Military Transition Teams(MITT), receive training at Fort Riley, Kansas,Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Marine Corps Military Transition Teams(MITT), receive training at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, CA and at the Advisor Training Group on Camp Pendleton, CA. Both the Army and Marine Corps Military Transition Teams(MITT) then go to the Phoenix Academy located in Taji, Iraq before they are assigned to their Iraqi Army, Police or Border Units.
