A list of highly-ranked ice hockey prospects for the NHL Entry Draft who are not currently playing in the National Hockey League. A player is eligible for this category if:
- He has been drafted by an NHL team and is currently playing major junior hockey, NCAA, or the overseas equivalent (NOTE:if a player plays in the NHL on a tryout basis and then is returned to junior, he can still be counted as a prospect), OR;
- He is rated among the top 30 prospects for an upcoming draft by NHL Central Scouting, OR;
- He is within his first two seasons of minor professional hockey in the American Hockey League and is still expected to become an impact player in the NHL.
A player should be removed from this list when he either:
- assumes a regular role in the NHL, OR;
- enters his third year of AHL hockey without making the NHL, OR;
- is demoted to the ECHL or a lower league.
