Hector W. Cowan (July 12, 1863 - October 19, 1941) was the fourth head football coach for the University of Kansas Jayhawks located in Lawrence, Kansas. and he held that position for three seasons, from 1894 until 1896. His overall coaching record at %trim(%left(&wikicollname)) was 15 wins, 7 losses, and 1 ties. This ranks him 14th at Kansas in terms of total wins and ninth at Kansas in terms of winning percentage. ^[1]

Before coaching at Kansas, he was the head coach at North Carolina for two games in their inaugural season of 1888.^[2]

Cowan was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951.
