[edit] Neighb'rhood Childr'n

The article List of bands from Oregon is up for deletion, and some of us are in the process of linking the bands in that list to Category:Oregon musical groups or Category:Oregon musicians. I saw you had added Neighb'rhood Childr'n to the list, and I thought they might merit an article. Do you know enough about them to write one? Katr67 18:46, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I say go for it, if the Internet sources seem reputable. I just love the idea that a psychedelic band from *Medford*, of all places, (or perhaps Phoenix, if I read correctly) sort of made it.

The list got messed up because there was a blanket decision to delete all "List of bands from" articles and it was deleted without being tagged. So it got recreated as a shadow of its former self, then was deleted again. Recently it was restored in order to promote discussion prior to deletion. You might want to check through the history to see if there is anything else that ought to be saved (via an article and categorization) prior to deletion. Thanks for your input! Katr67 21:35, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] thanks

Thanks for (your attempt) to do something constructive towards helping with the "bot problem". How file uploads are done at Wikipedia leads to many problems, including these clumsy bots. Even worse than the problems caused by the bots is when Wikipedians start making excuses for the failings of the bots rather than fix the problems. Even worse than that is when the Wikipedians who try to fix the problems are "blown off" and told that there is nothing that can be done about the problems...."you must suffer because this is the result of a bad situation that we cannot control". Such "social momentum" towards accepting the failings of systems is not unique to Wikipedia, but in an open community such as Wikipedia we do have a chance to set things right. I hope you are not discouraged from continuing to discuss the problems of Wikipedia and you keep looking for solutions to those problems and helping the community find ways to reach the solutions. --JWSchmidt 16:38, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Software etc logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Software etc logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] How to properly AfD

Here are the most basic instructions:

1. Copy {{subst:afd}} into the article you believe should be deleted (you have done this correctly)
2. Create the page where you will talk about the deletion. (this is what you did wrong)

  • When you created the page, you simply typed in the nomination (this was your mistake). You must use {{subst:afd2|pg=pagename|cat=category|text=reason for nomination}}. There is also an option called "Preloaded debate" on the {{afd}} template box, which I think you should use. It is very simple and explains very clearly what to do.

3. Copy the page into today's log (you did this correctly)

I hope this helps. --Wafulz 01:25, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Image was on left because of a basic design principle: when figure looks to right, designers position it on left. If put on right, they look off the page. If on left, image draws reader into copy. Pepso 21:35, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recent change to template:F1 cars 1985

Hi Guroadrunner. How strongly do you feel about your recent change to template:F1 cars 1985 (i.e. changing "which" to "that")? Because all the other "F1 cars by year" templates say "which" (except, I've just noticed, template:F1 cars 2007, which is completely different!). If you're not especially passionate about the change, then I'd probably prefer to see it changed back, so that they're all consistent. (Alternately, if you do feel strongly about the change, then all the others could be changed to match 1985). -- DH85868993 03:10, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not really fussed either way whether they say "that" or "which"; I'd just like them to all be consistent. If you feel like changing the others, there are only 20 in total - they're all listed in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One/Related_Pages#Templates. -- DH85868993 04:53, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] to Guroadrunner - please help with pg vandalism to 'Alleycats'

Dear Guroadrunner,

I'd like to bring your attention to wiki article Alleycats, vandalism has been popping up even as the other editors try to revert (cancel the vandalism). Is there anything that could be done?

Thanks

[edit] Your assessment requests

These three are well written articles, but they need references to get above Start class.

This article needs to be expanded to get Start/B class, it also will need references.

I hope these comments were helpful in some way. Regards, Psychless 17:28, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Yuji Ide

This article covers his racing career very well and is well referenced. The only problem is it really doesn't tell me much about him as a person, just as a racing driver. It needs some info on his childhood, family, personal life, religion, etc. If you can do that the article would be great, I would peer review it for you. Oh, and if you could find a picture that would improve it as well. Pictures that wikipedia can use are always hell to find though... Regards, Psychless 19:41, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Elusiva

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Elusiva, by Nuttah68 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Elusiva seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Elusiva, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:35, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Wikify from December 2006

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Category:Wikify from December 2006, which you proposed for deletion, because the page you proposed for deletion was not an article, user page, or user talk page. If you still think the page should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to it, as proposed deletion is only for articles, user pages, and user talk pages. Instead, consider using WP:CFD for this page. In some cases, a speedy deletion criterion may apply. Thanks! KTC 21:22, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Red Link Recovery

Hi. I noticed your contributions to WikiProject Red Link Recovery. Please read the instructions carefully. If you handled a case and corrected the link then delete the entry, not just strike it. Keep up the good work. Friendly, Magioladitis 11:59, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi again. While working on Red Link/3 do the following:

When you correct a suggestion, or the red link doesn't exist at the page then delete the entry of the red link/3. (not just strike it).

Strike only cases you can't handle and the suggestion is not correct. We need the exceptions only for not including them at the next time the list is generated.

You don't have to type "no" everytime. "xxxx vs yyyy" would do the job (since the repaired entries are deleted).

Take care with entries with special characters. due to a problem of the generated list some entries appear as red links but there are not. Better don't touch these links or do a further research to fix them.

Your contributions are really helpful. If you follow above suggestions I think we'll cooperate perfectly to finish this project. Friendly, Magioladitis 09:05, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi again. In addition to the things above, when a section is completely empty you can delete it. All the best. -- Magioladitis 01:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] About the qubo "Advertisement"

I am curious why the qubo article was deemed for speedy deletion and labeled an "advertisement."

I did remove the timeslots for the digital network as well as the ratings updates, which I felt were unnecessary for the article. I created the page when the block was called "Smart Place For Kids," and linked to all relevant sources during the life of the article.

Again, just curious. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nemalki (talkcontribs) 05:31, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Just want to apologize in case I stepped on your toes just now. I noted that some links had been fixed and cleared them out, not knowing that you returned and are fixing them in batches. Sorry if I deleted lines you were working on and intended to clear out.--CheMechanical 03:49, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words on my page. I was the only one working on this all afternoon and forgot that others might drop in as well. After I left the message, I started checking the history each time I opened a referring page and moved on if I saw you were there today. Look forward to working with you again as my time permits.--CheMechanical 04:16, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Malaysia

Um - I'm a bit surprised. Was it actually you who added a broken title and a single US spelling into the 2007 Malaysian GP article? I've reverted the change. Cheers. 4u1e 09:02, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

<raises eyebrows> With 'Tires' because you're American?! Moving on, I don't think extra headings are needed - the section's only three paras long as it is. If we do want them, many style guides suggest that all material in any section should have headings to keep a logical hierarchy, so I would suggest having 'Testing', 'Customer Cars' and 'Tyres' as the sections. Rather than having extra ===s, you could just bold the headings by putting ';' in front of them. That way they don't clutter up the ToC. I really don't think it would be a good idea though, it would be using headings to do the job of paragraphs (imvho). Cheers. 4u1e 09:41, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Re Tyres heading: as I say, I'm not that keen on the idea, but they could get their own heading in the way I suggested above, or you could break them out as another top level heading. What do you think about mentioneing the customer car and flexi floor stuff in the lead as well? They're probably as important as the tyres. Glad to hear your thoughts.
Re spelling: It's not so much umbrage as surprise. 'Tires' written mistakenly because that's how you naturally spell it would go without comment. Changing all spellings to 'tires', with a rationale as to why AmEng was the most suitable for this article I would understand, although I'd probably disagree :). What I found a bit hard to swallow was adding just the one 'tire' to an article full of 'tyres', with the explicit reason you gave. Anyway, I apologise if you feel like I've been poking you with a pointy Wiki-stick. I'll stop now. No hard feelings, I hope? Cheers. 4u1e 08:00, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Not a full answer to your points, but one thing to consider is that the flexi floor thing has been raised as an issue at this end of the season as a (supposed) example of how Ferrari are treated differently to McLaren by the authorities. 4u1e 19:25, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bot request

Hi Guroadrunner. I saw your message on the bot request page. I think what you are wanting to do wouldn't be too hard to do using AWB. If you don't get a satisfactory response from the bot requests page by the weekend, I'll try to have a crack at it with AWB. (Have you used AWB? I love it. [edit] RE:Thank you

Your quite welcome. Yes, AWB can be very useful for this sort of thing. By the way, the plugin I used to do that for you can also be used to speed up manual page assessment. You just create a list of articles to be assessed, and it loads them one by one and after you look it over gives you a form to enter the importance, class, and whatever else, after which it updates the project template to match what you put. While I haven't used this aspect of the plugin for myself, it looks like it could make your work a lot easier. If you're interested, get permission to use WP:AWB and the plugin comes with it. Detailed instructions for use are here.--Dycedarg ж 06:19, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

I should have some time to have a look at it in a couple of weeks time; but if you're keen to get going before then (which I expect you are), perhaps User:Dycedarg (who processed the {{F1-stub}} articles using the plugin) might be able to help you out? [edit] Quality assessment

Hi. I see that you are doing quality assessments on many F1 articles, well done! However, I think you are being too free with the "stub" class. The MoS defines a stub as "an article containing only a few sentences of text which is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject, but not so short as to provide no useful information". Among others, you recently graded Coppa Acerbo as a stub... The page is over 15k! There are other examples as well. Please make sure that the quality assessment fits the bill before you add it. [edit] AWB help

Here's some instructions on how to make a list of the talk page of every page transcluding {{f1-bio-stub}}:

  1. In the lower left corner you'll see the box labeled Make list. Select the drop down box and set it to What transcludes page
  2. Type "Template:f1-bio-stub" into the box, and click the Make list button
  3. Select the menu at the top of the screen labeled List, click Filter out non-main space to make sure you only have mainspace pages and no project or category pages in your list
  4. Repeat step 3 to deselect it (it has already done it's job and we will be converting from mainspace to talk in the next step this option shouldn't be selected anymore)
  5. Select the List menu again, select Convert to talk pages

If you do those steps as I wrote them above, you will have the list you want. You can then proceed with the tagging. Do you understand the rest of the steps for creating your generic template and starting the tagging process, or did you have other questions?--Dycedarg ж 08:47, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 2006 wikification

  1. Well done for clearing those lists!
  2. Yes you broke the template, no problem.
  3. To take 2006 of the list just take that off the page itself. But as the instructions say "Old years should not be removed until they have been empty for a few months at least." This is because reversions and undeletions can re-introduce members, and we can see using popups if the cats are empty (even if they don't exist). Having said that, the invalid date category makes this less of a problem.

Hi. I'm sending this to you because you participated in the Centralized discussion on image placeholders that ended on 23 April.

That discussion must produce a conclusion.

We originally asked "Should the addition of this box [example right] be allowed? Does the placeholder system and graphic image need to be improved to satisfy policies and guidelines for inclusion? Is it appropriate to some kinds of biographies, but not to others?" (See introduction).

Conclusions to centralized discussions are either marked as 'policy', 'guideline', 'endorsed', 'rejected', 'no consensus', or 'no change' etc. We should now decide for this discussion.

Please read and approve or disapprove the section here: Conclusion --Kleinzach (talk) 11:28, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Associatedcontentfrontpage.PNG}

Thank you for uploading Image:Associatedcontentfrontpage.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
