George D. Maziarz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George D. Maziarz

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George D. Maziarz (b. May 25, 1953) is the Republican state senator from New York's 62nd district.

[edit] Biography

Maziarz was born in North Tonawanda, New York. He graduated from Niagara County Community College in 1974 with an Associate of Arts and in 1976 earned a Bachelor of Arts from Niagara University.

In 1975, Maziarz became the city clerk of his home town, the youngest city clerk in the state. In 1989, he moved up to Niagara County, New York county clerk.

On March 25, 1995 a special election had Maziarz take his place on the New York State Senate, replacing John B. Daly, who resigned to become New York State Commissioner of Transportation.

Today he resides in Newfane, New York with his wife and two children.

As his career progressed, Maziarz has faced diminishing opposition, until 2000 when he ran unopposed. He was endorsed by the Working Families Party in 2002, which is a rare achievement for Republicans.

Maziarz currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee. He previously served as Chairman of the Senate Labor Committee, as Chairman of the Senate Tourism Committee and as Chairman of the Senate Aging Committee.

Sen. Maziarz is active in civic affairs away from government and is proud of his Polish-American ancestry.
