[edit] Weston-super-Mare A.F.C.

You've certainly done some good work on this article over the last couple of weeks. It would be good to expand the lead to 2-3 paragraphs as per WP:LEAD and add references the history section - then I think it should reach B class. I know little about football articles & others may be able to advise further.— Rod talk 19:37, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry I responded to the last (unsigned) comment about WsM FC on User talk:ChrisTheDude I'm a bit confused are these 2 users the same person?— Rod talk 17:16, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

OK I've done a few minor style edits & added {{fact}} tags where I think you need to cite your source which could be books, newspapers, web sites etc. Hope this is helpful.— Rod talk 19:47, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
I classed it as B, though the distinction between Start and B is marginal - if it were a league club article I'd call it a Start, but as non-league sources are less numerous there is more room for leniency. The best examples to follow for non-league clubs are the featured articles Leek Town F.C. and Margate F.C. One possibility for expansion it to include a Colours and Crest section.
When it comes to player links, make sure that the link points to an article about that player, not someone else with the same name - the standard thing to do in that case is to change the link to Joe Bloggs (footballer). Also, players who have never played professionally should not be linked, as it is generally accepted that they should not have articles. Oldelpaso (talk) 11:35, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button Image:Wikisigbutton.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 18:54, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ivan Becerra

From transfermarkt.de [1], which shows him joining Wake Forest University after leaving Columbus Crew. If it was wrong then fine, but it was hardly vandalism. ArtVandelay13 (talk) 22:02, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Jon Beswetherick

Thanks for the note - I have now amended the article to reflect this, although as your original edit only incuded the WsM team template it was far from complete. Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 12:50, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Andy Gurney

Could you update the page then because it says he's current club is H&W. Jimbo[online] 17:19, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gareth Hopkins (footballer)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Gareth Hopkins (footballer), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 19:44, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I was a bit hasty, I thought Cheltenham were promoted to the league later than that. He does indeed qualify as notable enough under the rules. I've removed the prod now, please accept my apologies. Qwghlm (talk) 19:58, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Andy Iro

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Andy Iro, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. BJBot (talk) 17:59, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but playing in World University Games doesn't make someone notable. We don't even allow players an article if they've appeared for their country at U-18 level, which is a far higher achievement. Saying "it is only a matter of time before he breaks into the Columbus Crew side" is also a violation of WP:CRYSTAL. The only way it will be more work is if someone contests the prod, because then it will have to go through AfD. Nevertheless, it can be recreated as soon as he makes a first team appearance. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:37, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Making "tons of friends" is not what Wikipedia is about; it's about making a quality source of information about important stuff. Despite the quality of the article, Iro is not important enough to deserve one at the moment - I could write a very in-depth one about my village football team, but it doesn't make it notable. It is not my "Iron Fist rule", but a set of policies which were developed by numerous editors working together. пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:28, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
PS, thanks for alerting me to all those other articles - I have prodded all those which fail. пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:34, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
If you created them, you can add {{db-author}} and it will be speedily deleted. пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:49, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
You can prod them by adding the following to the top of the articles:
{{subst:prod:Fails [[WP:BIO]] as he hasn't played in a fully professional league.}}
пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:59, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, that should be:
{{subst:prod|Fails [[WP:BIO]] as he hasn't played in a fully professional league.}}

[edit] AfDs

Hi Gaucho. You can create a single AfD for multiple articles (see WP:BUNDLE) to save creating numerous ones for the same reason. Aside from this, USL appears to be a pro league, so I wouldn't bother AfD'ing any players who have played in it. Cheers, пﮟოьεԻ 57 20:49, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't matter what level the league is at, as long as it is fully pro. USL1 and USL2 are both fully-pro, so any players in those divisions meet the criteria. The PDL is not, so any player in there who has not played at a higher level does not meet the criteria. Hope this answers your question. пﮟოьεԻ 57 23:59, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tyler Rosenlund

Hi Gaucho, regarding the Rosenlund articles, you were almost right except for the first and last one. http://www.svenskafans.com/fotboll/aik/artikel.asp?id=152012 was published on Jan 29, 2007 reads thus: AIK tries Canadian

The Canadian midfielder T R is in Stockholm to try for a contract, according to AIK's web site.

The offensive midfielder T R will be playing on a trial basis with AIK during the two following weeks. The Canadian, who was born in Vancouver by the Pacific Ocean, has been studying and playing football at University of California Santa Barbara outside Los Angeles, and led his team to a great victory in the American college cup. In addition to a pass that led to a goal in the finals which UCSB won by 2-1, he also scored a hat trick in the quarter finals.

"From what we hear, Tyler is one of the major Canadian talents and we want to look closer at his abilities. It's perfect for us to try out players right now - our current team holds a high standard which means we can be very picky about the players who try out", says AIK's head of sports, Ola Andersson.

T R was born in September, 1986, and has played 31 boys' and junior national games for Canada. Apparently, Rosenlund also has an EU passport, which means that he would not occupy one of the three slots allowed for non-EU players in the team if he were to be offered a contract.

And http://www.svenskafans.com/fotboll/aik/artikel.asp?id=153300 published on Feb 8, 2007 reads: No Tyler in AIK

Tyler Rosenlund who has been on the team on a trial basis will not get a contract with AIK this time. He didn't have sufficiently specialised qualities.

TR played the entire game against Syrianska but didn't convince the club's leadership, and so after a week's trial, the Canadian with Swedish and Finnish ancestry will have to look for another club.

AIK's coach Rikard Nordling motivates the decision: "Our assessment is that Tyler is a skilled football player, but given the current competition we can't offer him a contract."

(Translations not exact but close :-) )

The other two articles are about the game where AIK played Valsta Syrianska, and Rosenlund played the whole game; the summary article states that he didn't make much of an impression at all, and AIK failed to dominate the midfield. The play-by-play article says much the same (though in the 85th minute, there was a nice shot on goal by Rosenlund which was saved by the goalkeeper.)

So basically, Rosenlund came to AIK to try out for two weeks, they were quite excited to have him, but after one week he had to leave.

Hope this helped! --Bonadea (talk) 09:20, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Andy Robertson

I've nominated the article for Andy Robertson as he doesn't meet the criteria at WP:BIO#Athletes - i.e. hasn't played in a professional league yet. Jimbo[online] 09:20, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Andy Robertson

An editor has nominated Andy Robertson, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Andy Robertson and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 13:00, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Transwiki to a more inclusive site

Hi Gauchodude,

I see that you've been doing quite a lot of good work in Wikipedia, especially the football section. As some of your articles are currently under review for deletion on the grounds of non-notability, I wanted to suggest that you consider transferring them to Wikipopuli, a wiki that I set up to host biographical articles without a notability requirement. Indeed, given your level of experience in the wiki world, I'd be grateful for any feedback you care to give on the site. Thanks TheYellowCabin (talk) 20:27, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mark Preece

The Conference isn't fully professional, so by the WP:BIO#Athletes criteria, none of its players are notable unless they've played at a higher level. пﮟოьεԻ 57 07:11, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
