"Forfeit" is the eighth track on Chicago hard rock band Chevelle's second album Wonder What's Next. The song is said to be about over-aggressive people in moshpits.
One of Loeffler's favorite songs on Wonder What's Next is "Forfeit", a turbulent, angst-filled cut about morons in the mosh pit.
"It's funny to me because I'm singing, 'I wanna fight, I wanna prove I'm right,' and I'm singing it to a crowd that's beating each other up", he said. "I'm making fun of people who are big bruisers and just because the music is heavy, they want to fight. We want crowds to jump around, but we're certainly not into violence."
The song is a favorite among many hardcore Chevelle fans. While it's been dropped from the setlists throughout most of the touring for Vena Sera, occasionally the band will throw the song in during the encore, depending on how big of a mosh pit and how intimate the show is for that moshpit (i.e. when the band plays at a small club and there's tons of moshing). The reason the band will play this song for the rough intimate shows is possibly to make fun of all the people moshing. Regardless of their reasons performing this song live, fans tend to not care as they love the song anyway and many consider it the best Chevelle song off of Wonder What's Next, if not the best song by the band overall.
