[edit] Your edits to Because of You

I noticed your recent changes to the disambiguation page Because of You, because it was my cleanup that you changed. I was going to revert right away, but I thought I'd discuss it with you first.

I can't see that you did anything but put the entries in alphabetical order more or less according to artist, and removed the red link. But MOS:DAB says nothing about alphabetical order. Entries are supposed to be according to use, which means, for one thing, that entries with direct links that match the disambiguated term go above entries with links to articles in which the term is mentioned. In this case, where most of the items are songs, the songs with their own articles go first, followed by entries for songs that are only mentioned on an artist or album page. Also, regarding the redlink, you're supposed to supply a redlink "when another article links to the ambiguous article with none of the disambiguation options in mind." The Cover Girls includes a link to Because of You, so, as I read the guideline, either the dab page has to have the redlink, or the link in The Cover Girls should be removed. I chose the former, because The Cover Girls article asserts notability for that song as a charting hit.

Is there some precedent or other guideline for your arrangement of the entries? If so, I'll leave the page alone. Otherwise I think it should go back the way it was (except for your fix of the intro line and providing a separate section for the "All Because of You" titles). Regards--ShelfSkewed Talk 17:51, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

And you dabbed the Cover Girls link. It all looks good to me. I did notice that (in your earlier edit) you also added disambiguating parentheticals to the unlinked titles. I don't know if I've seen that before, but it certainly makes sense in that it avoids redlinks while still providing a ready disambiguation for future editors. --ShelfSkewed Talk 20:31, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sky Blue Sky

Thanks for your GA review of Sky Blue Sky. I took all of your recommendations into account. Please take a look and see if it now meets the good article criteria. Teemu08 20:36, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your edits to Category:Photographs

Hi there. I reverted the edits you made here and here, because Category:Photographs is a category that contains articles about images, not the images themselves, whereas Category:Publicity photographs is an image category. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding. Carcharoth 17:08, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: NPOV

There's nothing wrong with awards being in the lead, but it definitely doesn't belong in the first sentence (unless of course the award is groundbreaking). Unless the awards are the subject of the article, it's inheritely POV to start off with them. Yes it's true the Killers have won awards, but if you read Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view#Fairness_of_tone, there is such thing as being bias even when things are only presented in facts. Awards in opening sentences is just a minor example of this. Winning awards is something the Killers have done, but it's not who they are. Sentences like "Kanye West is a six time Grammy Award winning American artist" is a piece of verbal fluff that you expect to find in a press release, magazine article or fansite. And not to mention the sub communication in the sentence (Look, my favorite artist won six Grammys!). I'm pretty sure you can see why the following sentence isn't NPOV, even if it is true: "Tom Cruise is a razzie award winning actor". There's a pretty clear consensus at Wikipedia talk:Neutral point of view#POV in first sentence.3F that it's not NPOV to introduce people in an encylopedia that way. There was apparently a huge edit war of this issue on the Christina Aguilera article, which even made The New York Times. Spellcast 17:48, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Yep, at least according to the diff on User:Jkelly's page. Spellcast 18:11, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Menendez_brothers_-_mug_shot.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Menendez_brothers_-_mug_shot.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:30, 9 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 12:30, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Menendez_brothers_-_mug_shot.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Menendez_brothers_-_mug_shot.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 12:30, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Jeff_Timmons_mugshot.jpg

I have tagged Image:Jeff_Timmons_mugshot.jpg as no rationale, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 12:56, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

This also had a fair use rationale already! I expanded it a little.--Esprit15d (talk ¤ contribs) 13:08, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:White men can't jump.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:White men can't jump.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. [edit] July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :GAReview underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 03:21, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DC Meetup notice

Greetings. There is going to be a Washington DC Wikipedia meetup on next Saturday, July 21st at 5pm in DC. Since you are listed in Category:Wikipedians_in_Virginia, I thought I'd invite you to come. I'm sorry about the short notice for the meeting. Hopefully we'll do somewhat better in that regard next time. If you can't come but want to make sure that you are informed of future meetings be sure to list yourself under "but let me know about future events", and if you don't want to get any future direct notices \(like this one\), you can list yourself under "I'm not interested in attending any others either" on the DC meetup page.--Gmaxwell 22:09, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your speedy tag at Richard Yeabsley

Hi. Thanks for trying to help, but a) your tag was malformed and b) the subject is notable, having played professional cricket, he passes WP:BIO, as per well-established convention in Wikipedia. --Dweller 20:34, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] John Mayer

I never voted on the article. I only left a comment. 17Drew 23:08, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

I have no problem with your reverts Esprit, often drive by edits are like that. Work away. Ceoil 02:57, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your speedy tag at Rejected EP

I just thought I'd clarify that the subject of the Rejected EP article is notable. I was in the process of creating the article when you added the tag, and I immediately inserted a hangon tag and clarified that it does, in fact, pass WP:MUSIC, which requires only that the artist releasing the album pass the WP:MUSIC criteria. In any case, another user has now removed the tag. lone_twin 08:26, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pan's Labyrinth GA review

I just wanted to inform you that I have added a production section, which was the subject of your endorsement. ♥Atropos 06:27, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect of By the book

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on By the book, by Transfinite (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because By the book is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting By the book, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 03:26, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Be Here Now

I've addressed most of your points at the FAC for Be Here Now. The remaining items are mainly little things that I don't think are problems or are correct in British English (the day/month/year dating and use of the plural in conjunction with collective nouns like Oasis and Ignition). One or two items I need to rewrite after I review the sources. Everything should be taken care of pretty soon. Thanks for the feedback. WesleyDodds 04:20, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Addressed some more points. WesleyDodds 07:49, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Everything's been taken care of now. WesleyDodds 02:31, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Film

Heads up! GA film articles are under Media, not Arts. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 13:18, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Looks like WP:GA#Arts covers Music. I fixed film articles to point to Media instead. Not sure about something like Clone Wars (Star Wars), though. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 13:22, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Look at WP:GA, not WP:GAC. They have different categorizations. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 13:23, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Hold on, though. Have you tried clicking on "good Arts article" here? It doesn't take you to the right place. On my revision, though, clicking on "good Media article" does. It seems to be a problem with how the template has been set up, I think. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 13:35, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, is the intent for a "good Arts article" to link directly to WP:GA#Arts? I've brought up the matter at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles/Uncategorized Good articles task force. I understand that rendering it as a "good Media article" doesn't categorize it properly, but the ensuing link points to WP:GA#Media, which is appropriate. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 13:42, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
That's fine. It was just an apparent conflict in categorizing films between WP:GA and the task force. We'll see if the discussion on the task force talk page can clear things up. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 13:49, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] John Mayer

Congratulations on getting John Mayer up to FA! I think you did an excellent job with it, and I really enjoyed reading the finished article. Keep up the good work! Karanacs 13:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] TSM

Thanks for failing it, as I've said on the talk page, it was nominated by some random guy and not anyone who had actually done any serious work on the page. The guy didn't even put the nomination template on the talk page. He didn;t seem to realise that a film that had been out for about three days, was not ready for GA... Anyway, I wouldn't say a month, I'd give it a week or two myself, its usually stable by then. Gran2 14:54, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Lol! Don't mention it! I was even considering failing it myself, but I'd thought I'd see what happened. Gran2 15:05, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Need help with film article

I am a history student at UGA and I have created and edited Abby Singer (film) as a film history project. I need to improve this article. Also it has been said that it is not notable. Please help CamdawgUGA 01:29, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Generation Data group

Thanks for noticing that some of the text of Generation Data group was a copy violation. An alternative to marking an article as a copyright violation is to revert it to a earlier revision that is not a copyright violation. I have done this for this article. [edit] The Simpsons

[edit] I need help

I want to create a template with this code:
[{} Full lyrics] for PAGENAME at the Yahoo! Music

I want to render this way:
[{} Full lyrics] for Esprit15d at the Yahoo! Music

But, instead it looks like this:
[{} Full lyrics] for 5 at the Yahoo! Music

The point of PAGENAME is to take avantage of the pipe trick, but it isn't working >:C

HELP!--Esprit15d 20:45, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

PAGENAME doesn't need to have the brackets round it to work.

PAGENAME gives Esprit15d/Archive 5 - for example. The way you're using this template, you wouldn't be able to use it on pages where the song title is followed by a disambiguation. such as Song (Band). Hope this helps. Nick 21:10, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vkhutemas FAC

Thank you for such a detailed reading. I copy edited the article according to your observations, is there anything else I can do? There were two items that I asked for help from other contributors with. These two writers both have expertise in this subject and helped expand the article significantly, so I'm indebted to them and want them to share in the FAC. Hopefully they will get involved in this and in featured article writing in the future. Otherwise I will try to resolve everything from the FAC myself. Regards, D. Recorder 20:12, 3 August 2007 (UTC) With no response from the editors, I have addressed the two items I was unsure of. One I'm assuming was a typo and the other I found another source for. I provided more context to that statement so that it doesn't seem as jolting. I have addressed all the items that you brought to the FAC, can you have another look and reconsider your vote? Regards, D. Recorder 20:07, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:The Jade Peony.jpg. [edit] Triptych

First of all, I thought it was a nice gesture from you to post such a thougtful review of the Triptych article after I delayed reposting on your John Mayer FA article for so long. The points you made were all astute, and I am hopeful that they are now all met. If you have time can you revisit the review, and strike what you think has been incorporated, and maybe mention any other suggestions you might have. Thanks. Ceoil 13:54, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pearl Jam

Thanks for the detailed review. I'm addressing your concerns; just a few questions. I don't think grunge should be capitalized, in order to stay consistent with the grunge music article (and personally I've not seen the subgenre referred to as a proper noun). I agree with your Etymology comment; it was placed in the formation section originally, but I was advised to move it to a separate section. (On the FAC, I don't seem able to reply to your comments (although this may be a separate technical problem); can I ask why there are several if statements?) Anyhow, thanks again for your review. CloudNine 14:42, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I believe I've addressed all of the comments raised in your review. CloudNine 17:37, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] FAC

Thanks for your excellent review on Vkhutemas - D.Recorder is off this week and I'll be trying to deal with the rest of the FAC. Just a note - I notice on several FAC's you've commented in the manner "2d. Sufficient inline citations?" - please note 2d is not a criteria for X number of inline citations - 2d. says that if inline citations are required - ie. per WP:V for quotations, BLP issues and material challenged or likely to be challenged - then they should be formatted per the MOS. 1c. is actually the criteria that demands factual, verifiable accuracy. We tweaked the wording of 2d. a few days ago to clarify the difference. Thought you might like to know. --Joopercoopers 14:07, 9 August 2007 (UTC) Oh and thanks for the Jack White coverage, a personal favourite of mine.

[edit] Homer Simpson FAC

Evening, hey i think i addressed most of your concerns, I've created a short section about merchandizing and removed controversial statements and corrected grammatical errors. Would you like to take another look? It would be most appreciated. Cheers --Hadseys 22:34, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] BSSM

Thanks. Personally, I was surprised to see such a quick support from you as you're a great copyeditor and generally have nitpicks in FACs. I really couldn't find much strength in the review, but FAC guidelines do suggest that even if a claim might be outrageous one should at least attempt to conform to the requests. Robert Christgau is one of the most critical and well known critics out there, so there's obviously no need to state why it's significant that the album received a two-star honorable mention, which is one of his highest ratings. Regards, NSR77 TC 03:19, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Andalusian cadences reloaded.

Hello again! Five of the seven voting days are almost gone, but I guess the article regarding Andalusian cadences is a little better ("little" - I hope that's just a dysphemism).

 • I've added several recordings on: typical Andalusian cadences (played on piano and then exemplified with classical and popular music samples), altered Andalusian cadences (so far, only one audio sample) and the Lydian cadence (one sample - maybe I'll re-record it, it's a little hard to discern...).
 • I've also presented the Andalusian cadence in parallel to Phrygian tetrachords and named the latter in the historic - that's not original research, it is also written in my books (mostly Buciu)!
 • I've added a number of inline citations. There was also another reference I should have added (regarding Lydian cadences), but it seems that I've lost the book and can't remember not even the author's name.
 • I've also tried to fix the introduction like you've counselled me and also tried hard to make this article somehow more accesible (I've introduced a lot of i.e.-s, e.g.-s, a preliminary section about possible confusions in notation and eventually cleared up.)

I still don't know if this article really worths being featured, but all I'm asking you of is to write down comments for the new materials and please tell your Wikipedia fellows to vote this! I've received only a comment and a vote so far. Thank you very much. (Impy4ever 15:36, 12 August 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Triptych, May–June 1973

Hi Esprit15d, you have an outstanding object at the FAC for the Triptych page. I'd like you to revisit; I am happy your concerns have been met. Ceoil 02:16, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

This[1] is what I came up with to resolve; if you have any more suggestions, well they are more than welcome. Ceoil 21:37, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Waiting on the World to Change

I'd be happy to, but unfortunately, I don't think I know how to convert the chord names into the chords. I don't play guitar, so my knowledge of music theory is limited to what I've picked up from reading a couple articles here. 17Drew 16:04, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use disputed for Image:Carrot top.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Carrot top.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

I took the liberty of substituting a Marlon Brando image in your User:Esprit15d/Userboxes/ASND-Stanley userbox, since the original image is non-free. Remember, Wikipedia policy does not allow templates (which includes userboxes) or user pages to contain any copyrighted content not under a free license; so, for example, claims under "fair use" are explicitly rejected. The alternative was to remove the image altogether, but since the UB is pretty good, I simply found a good free-use alternative. I hope you don't mind. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 04:53, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

I see. Sorry about the mix-up. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 14:48, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Carrot top.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Carrot top.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Bonnaroo 05 logo.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:26, 12 September 2007 (UTC). [edit] Re: Etiquette

Sorry Esprit I'm new to editing Wikipedia and only saw the the space for writing about what I had changed after I had made the changes so it was too late to go back. I will keep this in mind in the future. On a sidenote I would have referenced the information about the UK tour being cancelled the first time that i added it but the only source I had was an email sent to me by whitestripes.com and this was something I was unwilling/unable to include as a reference. By the time I added it again later it had been reported on a number of websites so I was able to reference it properly. Again, I apologise for undoing your edit without explaining my actions but I assure you I WOULD NOT edit a Wikipedia page unless I knew the information was accurate. Hopefully you understand my actions better now. Thanks Admuz 12:18, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Raven FAC

Thanks for your feedback on "The Raven" over at its featured article review. I've been able to take care of all the concerns you addressed, for the most part. I am struggling a bit to find additional sources that the speaker is reading about the occult or black magic. As far as I know, this is a commonly-held belief but I just can't seem to find more sources to confirm that. Feel free to review and, if you find it acceptable, change your vote. I have to say, your thorough review was very helpful, so thanks so much for putting in your two cents! --Midnightdreary 05:17, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Just for the sake of full disclosure, I also had a hard time finding out additional information about the modern works "The Raven" has inspired (i.e. "The Parrot Who Knew Papa"). I'm not too familiar with those works, but the source I used just listed them without further information. I chose only to include notable authors (like Ray Bradbury). I can't imagine it's particularly important and would support removing these specific examples that lack, well, specificity. :) --Midnightdreary 05:19, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Michael Bublé Feeling Good.ogg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Michael Bublé Feeling Good.ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Your message

Hi there! Thanks for the comments. I think the main problem is that I've been trained to use the Oxford comma http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wp:mos#Serial_commas, and not everyone uses that one. And the thing with the reference tags--LOL. Sorry! I'm new, and it's hard to sometimes read the HTML on here. I think that's the problem there. And usually with the quotation marks, before them, I try to make a distinction between what's being said. For instance, if the sentence is something like,

His song, "Gravity", was featured on "House", in the episode, "Cain and Able." (Or whatever the sentence was.) Just to differentiate what's being said from other things. Does that make sense?

Thanks! Bufftractor53 04:58, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Oh! One other thing--I noticed you reverted where I had added "Guitar picks". How come? Because I needed to look up "plectrum"; it's not a very common word.
Thanks again!Bufftractor53 05:07, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh wow, "song" is an adjective? That really makes no sense! I see "song" and think, "noun." Wow. Where did you find that out? That's so crazy!
And I think I see what you mean about the commas. I've just been taught that way. Oops.
What is piping? I still think it's confusing, since most wouldn't know the word "plectrum." At least I don't think so. I could be wrong. Hmm.
Bufftractor53 22:28, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Cool, dude. I get it now. Thanks for the help! Bufftractor53 02:00, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Album personnel sections

Hi there. Regarding this change, note that the primary heading should be titled "Personnel", per WP:ALBUM#Personnel. Have a nice day. --PEJL 15:30, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

I kept it under the subheading personnel. But the "personnel", I still feel should not include the facility locations where it was located. That's why I added the group heading "Credits" and put personnel as one subheading and locations as the other.--Esprit15d 15:58, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Right, but the personnel section should be under a primary heading "Personnel", not under a subheading "Personnel", per WP:ALBUM#Personnel. I agree that the facilities list is not suitable in the personnel section. --PEJL 16:03, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] John Mayer discography

Hey Esprit. Lately, I've been away from the Mayer related articles and have just been gnoming on them, but after seeing eric flush out a bunch of stuff from the discography, I was inspired to get it up to a good standard because, frankly, it's pretty poor. You have been the main JM contributor (I've done my bit, here or there) but I think we should try and work together to get the discography to become a featured list. There's a LOT of work to be done to get it there, especially in the way of providing adequate references for all chart positions, finding international charts, making sure the contributions table is extensive enough and so on and so forth. I've just written a lead and added the infobox to the article, but the lead needs a lot of work, I think. What do you reckon? I've been doing a lot of FLC work lately, so I'm getting pretty familiar with the requirements, not to mention that I have one up at the moment. Let me know what you think and if you think there are any other contributors who you think would be interested in getting it featured too. If Hilary Duff can become a featured list, then this can for sure. --lincalinca 13:48, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

You read my mind! I'm been interested in doing a Featured Group for a while, but most of the groups of articles seem almost insurmountably large (like 25-35 articles, most of which need spades of work). I'd be happy to work through the John Mayer articles. The five most important for the task would be the three albums, the discography and the already (thanks to you) featured John Mayer article. But as you said, one at a time: let's get the Discography there, because with the sourcing for chart positions and everything, it should be easier then to update Heavier Things and ROom for Squares with that info, and reviews are easy as pie to find for a critical response section for each. --lincalinca 23:02, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, getting familiar with the article type is definitely a great help. I re-read the lead I wrote for the JMd (as we can call it) and I'm quite impressed with how straightforward and cohesive it came out (not to brag). As to the standard form of the discographies, I've kind of worked it towards being in the correct shape and form. As you may have seen on my talk page, or in my "where's linca" toolbar, I'm working on the Powderfinger discography and that's brought me a lot of familiarity with the way it ought to be, so if you have any questions abut it, I'm happy to answer/implement as necessary. The Infobox I popped onto there is slightly changing as I go, since I only just made the infobox (it's only now starting to take some sort of correct and consistent form across a handful of pages). Have a look over the things I've listed under the "to do" on the talk page and if there's anything you can do on there, feel free, just don't forget to cross anything off that you complete, date it and make it done. Oh, and feel free to add anything you complete too. *toasts* --lincalinca 13:01, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

As a Wikipedia novice bunbling through the maze I notice you have tagged my dialogue with Iridiscent.

I accept the critque and would like help in recrafting the article contribution with regard to DROPme (instand downloading of radio songs to a mobile phone) as it does represent a technological step in a fast developing daily behaviour.

I am not quite sure how to proceed. Iridiscent offered tpo recreat my article in 'my space' but I do not knbow how to get there or really how to proceed.

Are you willing to advise me?

Thanks

[edit] Redirect of Bakersfield(UK tv series)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Bakersfield(UK tv series), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Bakersfield(UK tv series) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Bakersfield(UK tv series), please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. Thanks for uploading Image:John Mayer - Slow Dancing in a Burning Room.ogg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. [edit] Template help

help me I added <includeonly></includeonly> to the dated prod template. It was in a parser function that displays a red expired message when the 5-day prod time limit is up. The template seems to work correctly, and articles with expired prod tags show the message and include the Category. For example: this article: CEXL. However, when you click on Category:Expired proposed deletion the category is empty. Only once yesterday did I see it populated with like 20 articles. I can't fathom why that is happening. [edit] Undelete of DCC Alliance

Hello Esprit15d,

I'd like to request an undelete of DCC Alliance. I just went to place a link from the mention of "DCC" on q:Mark Shuttleworth to this Wikipedia article—which appears to have been removed (very swiftly) within the last 24hours.

I have had no previous involvement with the article in question, I do believe this article may have a place, along with the United Linux article (again no involvement). This articles both document (now defunct) alliances and attempts at consolidation with in the Linux industry.

Many Thanks for your thoughts, —Sladen 22:05, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Approximately one day delay, migrated to Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2007_November_11 RfDRV. Template follows: An editor has asked for a deletion review of DCC Alliance. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review.Sladen 18:37, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A couple of John Mayer related things

Hey there! Firstly, congrats on getting the Hall Monitor job. Secondly, I've adjusted John Mayer to be a little easier on the eyes. I noticed in your talk page note, you mention you got the colours from the John Mayer website, but when I copied the colours using photoshop, I couldn't find the colours you used at all. Anyway, I basically put down the tealy blue that's used (and is also on the Continuum cover) and some shading variants. I also stripped out the fonts, because I think it was making it a bit harder to read. Anyway, thirdly, since John announced the release of "Say" as being a single, I've created its page. It needs some expansion, but it's looking good so far. I've also put it up for T:TDYK, so that'd be cool if it gets the greenlight on that. Anything you feel you can add to the "Say" page, go for it. It'd be nice for one of the singles to get a little attention, for the first time since WotWtC. Wow, that's an annoying acronym to think of. LOL. Take care! --lincalinca 09:28, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] dated prod change

I've reverted your edits to the template and category. The way caching works, this would only work if prods lasted 30 days, or however long the cache lasts. I considered a similar template to this (different use) but found through testing and was told by the devs that it doesn't work until someone edits the page the template is on. In the case of prods, edits to the page are usually the removal of the template. Mr.Z-man 03:32, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] CSS font size

You added font-size:7pt or similar to Template:nutritionalvalue. Is there a special reason for choosing "pt" as a unit? AFAIK, pt is an absolute unit that does not scale with the user preferences. It's better to use % or em (100%=1em), e.g. 0.9em if you mean 10% smaller than the base text font size. Han-Kwang (t) 22:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your signature

Your signature contains the ۞ character, which has right-to-left orientation. This causes it to read in unicode-conformant browsers as follows: --Esprit15d(DD ,HH:MM (▲ • * • MMMMM YYYY (UTC). Consider surrounding the ۞ character with ‎ to isolate it and prevent it from causing this effect, e.g. --Esprit15d(۝‎۞‎) HH:MM, DD MMMMM YYYY (UTC). Also, the character you use to link to your RFA does not appear at all on my browser. —Random832 15:30, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Michael McDonald - Ultimate Collection.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Michael McDonald - Ultimate Collection.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:NMEawards Logo 2006.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:NMEawards Logo 2006.gif.

Thank you. After Midnight 0001 02:47, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] League of Copyeditors roll call

Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there.
The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors.

[edit] 1st Annual Holiday Charity Revue (John Mayer concert to go onto DVD)

Not much more to say, but I've created this article. It's got plenty of references, but needs some work to really come to life. When you come back, care to have a look over it? When you get back, I'll be getting back to work, so I won't be able to contribute very much then. --lincalinca 07:19, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Foo Fighters - D.O.A..ogg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Foo Fighters - D.O.A..ogg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:40, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
