His Eminence Ernesto Cardinal Corripio Ahumada (June 29, 1919 - April 10, 2008) was a priest of the Roman Catholic Church. He was Archbishop of Mexico in Mexico City (1977-1994) and was Primate of Mexico. On June 30, 1979, he was summoned to Vatican City by Pope John Paul II and created cardinal in consistory. He was Cardinal Priest of the titular church of Mary Immaculate of Tiburtino.

Corripio Ahumada was ordained to the presbyterium on October 25, 1942. He served as a diocesan priest in his hometown of Tampico. On December 27, 1952, Pope Pius XII appointed Corripio y Ahumada to auxiliary bishop of the Tampico diocese. In a celebratory mass on March 19, 1953, he was ordained to the episcopacy becoming titular bishop of Zapara. On February 25, 1956, Corripio Ahumada assumed the office of full bishop.

Pope Paul VI elevated Corripio Ahumada on July 25, 1967, creating him archbishop of the Archdiocese of Antequera in the state of Oaxaca. On March 11, 1976, he was transferred to become the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Puebla de los Angeles in the state of Puebla. Confident in his leadership abilities, the Pope transferred Corripio Ahumada once again on July 19, 1977.

Upon assuming the papal throne, Pope John Paul II appointed Corripio Ahumada to membership in the College of Cardinals. He served in various capacities in the Roman Curia while concurrently in service to his home archdiocese. Corripio Ahumada retired on September 29, 1994.[1]

He died on April 10, 2008 in his house in La Noria, Xochimilco in Mexico City, after complications related to deep thrombosis in his left arm.
