Ok, why was the 'Eon' created? Or more specifically, what were the criteria? is it based on fossils still; or large extinction events and creation; or is it from rock structures that existed; or types of

This article says that an eon is 10^9 years. Is there a similar name for 10^6 years?? 66.245.26.209 14:31, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I'm not sure that this is true (that an eon is a billion years). The http://www2.nature.nps.gov/geology/usgsnps/gtime/gtime1.html lists the times of the eons, and they are definitely not 1 billion years apart.

I'm deletting this line.

Check the www.m-w.com definition of "eon". 68.143.166.174 21:29, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

This article formerly claimed that the Precambrian Eon currently is twice as long as the Phanerozoic Eon. Since the former was about 4000 million years long, and the latter currently is about 550 million years long (it has not ended yet), I cannot see how the former could be twice as long as the latter. I cleared up this inconsistency. Init 20:22, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Precambrian...?

Im still a bit blown away someone would write "arbitraily designated by humans" to quanitfy a term. good god, is there any word ever typed (and comprehensible) NOT arbitraily designated as something "by humans". its just such a weird thing to say... makes the article sound like it was either A: written by someone (human) with a child-like literary grudge against humans... or B: written by someone/thing NOT human... if its the later, ill apologize in person. The article on geological time says that Proterozoic, Archaeozoic and Hadean are themselves aeons, and that "Precambrian time" is no longer a recognised period of time. Can this be cleared up? Gee Eight, 4 February 2006, 14.43 UTC

[edit] Proposed move

eon (geology) to eon. As eon currently redirects here, this should simply be at eon. Hoof38 13:40, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Vote at:talk:eon
I would agree with the move, but talk:eon doesn't have anything about this, nor is there any vote underway at Requested Moves. And I can't mention this on your discussion page because you've been blocked indefinitely. Tempshill 16:11, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Shouldn't you label the x-axis of the graph?
