Dubrovnik Airport (IATA: DBV, ICAO: LDDU) is the international airport of Dubrovnik, Croatia. The airport is located approximately 15.5 km[1] (9.5 mi) as crow flies from Dubrovnik city center, near Čilipi. (Croatian) Dubrovnik Airline is based at the Dubrovnik airport.
In 2007, DBV served 1,143,168 passengers and saw 14,365 takeoffs and landings by general aviation.

[edit] Passenger increase
Dubrovnik Airport handled 1,143,168 passengers in 2007, an increase of 22,715 passengers. This is the slowest increase in passenger figures in recent years. However, Dubrovnik Airport hopes to see better results in 2008. An increase of 12% can be expected.

1987 was best year for Dubrovnik Airport as in 1990 Airport handled 1.5 million passengers with 2500 tons of cargo. Dubrovnik is expected to hit these figures in 2010.

Currently a new terminal is under construction and is planned to be 36,500 m² with 4 jetways and a projected annual capacity of 3 million passengers. Further expansion is planed after 2012, with 4 additional jetways planed, this will increase the capacity to 5.5 million passengers per year.
Dubrovnik airport terminal is set to be most modern and largest in Croatia, all in hope Dubrovnik can attract more visitors. Future airport plans call for extensive economic zone and large four star hotel. Dubrovnik Airport Authorities long-term plans call for second runway and to turn current runway in to a taxiway. This should increase the runway capacity and number of flights.

[edit] Accidents at Dubrovnik Airport
1996 Croatia USAF CT-43 crash: On April 3, 1996 a United States Air Force CT-43 aircraft carrying a Department of Commerce delegation crashed north of the airport on St. John's hill. The accident killed 35 people including Ron Brown, then Secretary of Commerce.
