Dublin Finglas (Dáil Éireann constituency)

Dublin Finglas was a short-lived former parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. It covered the Finglas area of the city of Dublin, together with small parts of Drumcondra and Glasnelvin. It existed from 1977 to 1981. It elected three Teachtaí Dála (TDs) to the Dáil, using the Single Transferable Vote method of proportional representation (PR-STV).

The constituency was created in 1977, under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1974 [1], taking in much of the former Dublin North West constituency together with parts of Dublin South West, as part of the redistribution of constituencies (also known as the Tullymander) which attempted to secure the re-election of the outgoing Fine Gael/Labour government. The constituency was abolished in 1981 with much of it going into a revived Dublin North West constituency. Of the 11 wards in Dublin Artane, 8 went to Dublin North West for the 1981 election, with three going to Dublin Central.
Its only election was notable for marking the debut in National politics of the current Taoiseach Bertie Ahern. Future Workers Party leader and Government minister Proinsias De Rossa also contested his first Dáil election.

It consisted of the following wards of the county borough of Dublin [2]: Drumcondra South C, Finglas East A, Finglas East B, Finglas East D, Finglas East E, Finglas East F, Finglas West A, Finglas West B, Finglas West C, Glasnevin B, Inns Quay A.
