[edit] About Doug
Doug is the father of Laurel Thomas, the wife of Emmerdale's vicar Ashley Thomas.
He arrived on April 30 along with his wife Hilary for a meal with their daughter. All went well, but after they left, they were involved in a car crash.
Doug escaped with comparatively minor injuries but Hilary was left in a coma for several weeks.
Hilary recovered and she and Doug later returned to meet their new grandson, Daniel. Tragically, Daniel died of cot death in February 2008. Hilary asked Douglas to contain his grief for Laurel's sake, and he had to confide his feelings in Pearl Ladderbanks. Laurel blamed Hilary for Daniel's death and after the memorial service she ordered her mother to leave, which she and Douglas did, but returned a couple of weeks later. Upon their return Laurel and Hilary patched things up and Hilary and Douglas have moved back in with Ashley and Laurel.
