Doug Benson is an American comedian who has appeared on Comedy Central Presents, Best Week Ever, and most recently as a contestant on Last Comic Standing.
Benson graduated from a community college in San Diego, California, before moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
While working as a stand-in and extra in movies and TV, he did his first stand-up gig after he and two other friends dared each other to try it. One of them didn't show up, and the other had signed up too late. Benson claimed that "I went on anyway and did my three minutes of whatever I could come with and people actually laughed". [1] At the age of 22, Benson became a stand-up comedian.
At the age of 27, Benson first began smoking Marijuana, which led to many films later on, when Benson became a huge supporter of Marijuana. Benson was part of the writing team that created (and performed in) The Marijuana-Logues. He was also named Stoner of the Year for 2006 by High Times Magazine. Benson also made his own documentary Super High Me, which will be released on DVD on June 10, 2008. Super High Me documents Doug not smoking pot for 30 days and then smoking pot for 30 days in a row. [2] To make sure alcohol wouldn't mess up the results, he didn't drink for the two months he filmed the documentary. Benson actually gained 8 pounds during the "high" month. Everything Doug Benson did in the film is legal in California. Benson claims that he tells kids "you should not smoke pot until you become a professional comedian". [3]
Benson also appears on the comedy compilation CD Comedy Death-Ray.
