(1999)

"Do Something" is the lead single from Macy Gray's debut album On How Life Is, released in 1999. The song samples OutKast's 1994 "Git Up, Git Out" and Nice & Smooth's 1989 "Funky for You", therefore it contained no less than twenty-two co-writers including Gray herself.

In the UK, "Do Something" became Gray's first charting hit on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number fifty-one there, however, it remains her lowest charting single there to date. "Do Something" failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 but managed to peak at number forty-three on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart.

"Do Something" was released on two CD formats in the UK. The CD single contained remixes of "Do Something", including collaborators such as Cee-Lo of Gnarls Barkley along with a non-album track, "Rather Hazy".

"Do Something" was also used in an MTV Europe commercial advertising Summer Festivals throughout Europe in 1999.
