"Paper Clip" "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose"

"D.P.O." is the third episode of the third season of television series The X-Files. Mulder is skeptical over a coroner's report regarding the fifth person to be struck by lightning in a small Oklahoma town. Their investigation into the latest death seems to point to the only person to have survived a lightning strike, an emotionally–charged youth named Darin Peter Oswald.

[edit] Trivia

  • The first credit, "Executive Producer - Chris Carter" is actually displayed on the television that Darin is watching, as if he'd just changed the channel to the end of an X-Files episode.
  • 'Hey Man, Nice Shot' by Filter is featured prominently in this episode.
  • The song that Darin puts onto the jukebox at the beginning, which plays as the first victim dies, is 'Ring the Bells (live alt. version)' by James.
  • The game that is being played at the arcade in the opening scene is Virtua Fighter 2. Also, in the background a part of the soundtrack (specifically Green Hill Zone) from the original Sonic the Hedgehog game can be heard. While essentially a non-arcade game, it was one of the games to be ported for Sega's Mega Drive-based arcade hardware.
  • The song that is played at the end of the episode as Darin is changing the television channels is 'Live Fast, Diarrhea' by the Vandals. The band were contacted during the writing process for the episode by Chris Carter, as a friend of the band, who, according to the band, stated that he "had an idea for an episode about a kid who is a Vandals fan and he can harness lightning to cause bad things to happen."
