[edit] SW11

Is the part of SW11 between Wandsworth and Clapham Commons considered Clapham, or is it Battersea? Lfh 19:47, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Historically there is no doubt that the area "between the commons" was part of Battersea parish. However, I think that the modern tendency to refer to areas by the nearest tube station means that a substantial are is generally regarded as "Clapham South". --Lang rabbie 22:46, 11 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lang rabbie (talkcontribs)

The postal area SW11 is Battersea; however, IIRC the entire street-name signage of the eastern part of the Common (between Clapham Common and Clapham South tube stations) and of the northern part is SW4 (Clapham), and only the south-western part is signed SW11 (Battersea). 217.171.129.71 (talk) 18:35, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

However, one would need to consult a map to be sure; the entire length of Acre Lane is SW2 (Brixton), but the side-streets of the western half are all SW4, so local residents consider this part to be in Clapham rather than Brixton. 217.171.129.71 (talk) 18:39, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lena Headey?

Because this so-called "famous Clapham resident" was inserted in the wrong place on two counts (out of alphabetical sequence, and in the middle of the external link for William Wilberforce, thereby breaking that link), I suspected that this addition was disguised vandalism, hence visited her page. On it, I can find no indication that she ever lived in Clapham.

Does anyone have any further information? (Who is she, anyway?) -- 217.171.129.69 (talk) 04:49, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Revert: Sunlight Laundry

Although the entire length of Acre Lane is postcoded SW2 (Brixton), as is common practice in London for all except extremely long roads, all other streets at the western end (where the Sunlight Laundry is located) have postcode SW4, indicating that this end is actually in Clapham. I should know; I live (and am typing this) in Hetherington Road SW4, which is directly opposite the Sunlight Laundry. -- 217.171.129.71 (talk) 02:39, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Actually that's not true - Hetherington Road is the only street at that end with an SW4 postcode. Plato Road, Solon Road, Corrance Road, Ballater Road are all SW2. That end of Acre Lane is part of Lambeth Council's Brixton Hill Ward. It has an SW2 postcode. It's Brixton. I live about 100 metres away on Clapham Park Road. If it was Clapham it would have an SW4 postcode. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sw4geoff (talk • contribs) 21:57, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

All those streets were in SW4, last time I looked. Are you referencing an inaccurate streetmap? -- mine says that Hetherington Road is in SW2.
And by your "logic", the famous Brixton Market and Electric Avenue aren't in Brixton Town Centre after all, but in Kennington (SW9). -- 217.171.129.71 (talk) 18:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

No - they are definitely in SW2. I have lived on Plato Road and it is in SW2, as this map shows:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=530425&y=175110&z=1&sv=acre+lane&st=6&tl=Acre+Lane,+London,+SW2&searchp=newsearch.srf&mapp=newmap.srf

That map also clearly labels the area as Brixton - with the B of Brixton right next to the Sunlight laundry.

The Brixton society includes the Sunlight Laundry in its 'West Brixton' walk

This map shows that the site sits in Brixton Hill ward:

Just because you live opposite the laundry doesn't make you right. All the evidence I've shown suggests it is in Brixton and not Clapham.

The former boundary between the Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth (containing Clapham) and the Metropolitan Borough of Lambeth (containing Brixton) prior to the local government reorganisation of 1965 ran down bedford road - putting Acre Lane in Brixton.

That part of Acre Lane is part of the parish of St Matthew's Brixton.Sw4geoff (talk) 09:15, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
