CKBT-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 91.5 FM in Kitchener, Ontario from the Global TV tower at 475 Ayr Road, near Paris, Ontario. The station broadcasts a Top 40 format as 91.5 The Beat - Hit Music Radio. The station had been airing a rhythmic top 40 format (e.g. rap / hip hop, reggae, R&B) until August 6, 2005, the day they segued to their current format, contemporary hit radio.
The station was launched by CanWest Global in January 2004. Studios are at 235 King Street East, Suite 120, Kitchener. Its morning DJs had been AJ and Adele, while afternoons were handled by Kwame and Big Mike. Mocha hosted the evening show. AJ was replaced by Edge, and Mocha replaced Kwame in the afternoons. Rob Daniels was then hired for the night show. Later, sometimes, Edge was replaced by Touch and Rob Daniels was replaced by Mr. D.
In September 2006, Corus Entertainment, already owner of 107.5 DAVE FM CJDV-FM in the Tri-Cities of Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo[1] announced it would buy CKBT and Winnipeg's CJZZ-FM, from CanWest, subject to Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approval. The transaction was approved by the CRTC on July 6, 2007, and as of July 29, 2007, CKBT was officially made part of Corus Entertainment's radio properties.
On August 16, 2007, the morning show DJs, Touch and Sandra were replaced by Big Mike and Mocha who were the former Afternoon Drive DJs. Mike has since left The Beat to become Managing Editor at 570 News CKGL. On Monday September 10th, 2007, Adele returned from maternity leave to re-join the morning show. Mike Devine replaced Mocha and Big Mike as host of Afternoon drive, but now is the host of The Beat's midday show. Kathy Wall joined The Beat from CFCA-FM now hosts the afternoon program. Dave Jutzi joined the Beat as morning newscaster with Mocha and Adele from Corus' Guelph radio properties CIMJ-FM in December of 2007.
