[edit] History

Prior to 1902, Wanneroo was part of the Perth Road District which eventually went on to become the City of Stirling.

The Wanneroo Road Board first convened in 1902, became the Shire of Wanneroo in 1961, and gained City status on 31 October 1985. Until 1 July 1998, it included everything north of Beach Road and west of Alexander Drive, but on that date, the shire was bifurcated; the inland suburbs and coastal suburbs north of Kinross remained with Wanneroo, whilst Kinross and coastal suburbs south became the City of Joondalup.

Wanneroo briefly returned to shire status but regained its city status a year later, on 1 July 1999.[1]

[edit] Wards

The City has been divided into 7 wards, each of 2 councillors:

  • Central Ward
  • North Ward
  • Coastal Ward
  • Hester Ward
  • Wanneroo Ward
  • Alexander Ward
  • South Ward
