[edit] History

In 1900, the East Fremantle Road Board was gazetted, and the following year was renamed to Melville Road Board. In 1923, it received a large amount of land from Jandakot Road Board when that entity was abolished.

On 1 July 1961, Melville Road Board became a Shire Council following changes to the Local Government Act. In 1962 it became a Town and in 1968 it attained City status.[2]

The City of Melville maintains 463 km of roads and 2.10 km² of parks and gardens.
