[edit] Further help with lists

I was wondering if you would mind helping out with List of male performers in gay porn films. At the moment references are in the form of editor comments. Will Beback is presently converting these manually and I was wondering if you could write a script that could (a) turn the remaining editor comment references into visible ones and (b) convert all references into inline citations? It might be an idear to adopt the tabular style of the LGB people lists as well. Your help would be much appreciated. WjBscribe 00:45, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

You're right- I'd assumed that he had stopped at E but in fact the later one don't yet have citations. Could you convert them to inline <ref> </ref> format though. You're also right about the table, we'll hold off until (if) there's more info than just the names to include. WjBscribe 01:28, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of unassessed articles tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 20:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Persian literature

Dear Celithemis!

Persian literature was previously a GA. However it was silent about contemporary literature. I added information about "contemporary persian literature". The section needs copyediting and also shortening. In case you are interested in the subject, I would like to ask you to help me in improving the article. Thanks alot.Sangak 16:24, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Update to position statement for RFC at Talk:Girl-girl

I just wanted to let you know that I have modified my initial suggestion to where Girl-girl should redirect: as "girl-girl" is a term used only to refer to a certain genre of pornography, Girl-girl should redirect to List of pornographic sub-genres#Lesbian pornography. Your input would be appreciated at Talk:Girl-girl. Thank you. Joie de Vivre 23:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm a bit unstable lately, admittedly. And your behavior was admirable. I think I'll take a Wikibreak if I can't control myself better. No reply needed on your part, just didn't want to end the argument on the note it was on. --W.marsh 01:31, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Peer Review

I followed the instructions at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Disputed_statement because I came across a statement which seemed inaccurate.

One of the steps is to start a peer review, but that was deleted soon after I posted it. What instructions should I follow?

Mensch 18:44, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the help, Celithemis. What you suggested is all that I wanted to do originally, but then I came across the Wikipedia:Disputed statement page, grimaced in mock pain and followed the instructions. (The Internet equivelent of eating my Brussels sprouts, except that I like Brussels sprouts.) I appreciate your assistance. Mensch 18:00, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Speedy deletion tagging

I still think Maybe You'll Be There should be deleted. It proves no encyclopedic information. What is your opinion on the article? Should I take it to AfD? Wǐkǐɧérṃǐť(Talk) 01:14, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

"'Maybe You'll Be There' is a popular song." Really that provides no encyclopedic information. That's the same as saying "The Golden Retriever is a popular kind of dog." It should look like this. Wǐkǐɧérṃǐť(Talk) 01:26, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for coming to my defense. It would seem (based on his reference to "Smells Like Teen Spirit") that Wikihermit knows nothing about anything but his own favorite genre of music, and so did not recognize that "Maybe You'll Be There" is a true standard in every sense of the word, thus being eager to delete it. -- BRG 13:23, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your proposal for changes to Template:Inappropriate tone: I've implemented it together with a piped link to WP:TONE as was proposed earlier, and it looks much better now imo. :) .... dave souza, talk 09:13, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Patchin Place

Hi Celithemis. You are off to such a great start on the article Patchin Place that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. Appearing on the Main Page would help bring publicity to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. Again, great job on the article. -- Jreferee (Talk) 14:32, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Adding "if you haven't already done so" had crossed my mind and your comment solidified it. I've changed the wording so that it will include "if you haven't already done so ...". Sorry about any confusion and thanks for the suggestion. -- Jreferee (Talk) 22:44, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Colette in Rêve d'Égypte.jpg

OK, thanks for the info, I would undo the move but I see you already have.

I'm starting to get a bit worried about the tags these images have on the Wikipedia. If they were published outside the US how can they be PD-US in the first place? (The 1st image had a description saying it was published in France, so I took it that the tag was some sort of mistake and should have been fair use. But the next 2 images merely contained French text and could have been published anywhere, but had a PD-US tag implying a US publication prior to 1923.) The Commons bans fair use images but allows PD-US. Surely the issue is whether these are PD-US at all. If these images are not in the Public Domain in the US then they are not in the Public Domain in the US - period. So they may be allowed in the Wikipedia, or they may not. Perhaps I'm getting the wrong end of the stick - could you clarify please? --Simon Speed 01:07, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

I've been checking on the Commons:Licensing page. Among the worrying passages is -

Regarding the United States and non-U.S. works, one should bear in mind that the U.S. passed a law (the Uruguay Round Agreements Act, URAA) that restored copyrights in the U.S. on foreign works if that work was still copyrighted in the foreign source country on the URAA date. This URAA date was January 1, 1996 for most countries. This means that foreign works became copyrighted in the U.S. even if they had been in the public domain in the U.S. before the URAA date.

Basically if a French work is not PD in France now it's not PD in the US. The Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Public domain page says that the PD-US tag is for images published in the United States before 1923. I think the PD-US tags had better come off these French images.--Simon Speed 01:59, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sorry

I'm sorry about the edit I made to a Winter's Tale a while back. The painting just looked sort of random and there was no explanation for why it was there. It looked like vandalism, so I removed it. Supernerd 10 13:34, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copied text

Hi Celithemis. A question: The lion's share of text here [1] is pasted verbatim from the museum's web site, which maintains copyright, but also makes allowance for 'fair use' for educational purposes. Does it stay, or get deleted? Thanks, JNW 11:26, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

That's what I thought. But if I'm at all unsure, I like to ask someone who knows more on the subject than I do. Thank you, JNW 00:28, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Celithemis! As I wanted to incorporate the picture Image:Djunabarnes.jpg on the french wiki, I had a doubt about the date: you mentionned 1921, on the Commons page, it is indicated 1905 (which is quite unlikely, she would be only 13). Hi, I've been sprucing up the triple crown awards. Here's the new version of the imperial triple crown jewels you've already earned. Feel free to replace your old one with this if you like the new version better. I've also introduced two new triple crown awards for editors who've done a lot of triple crown work: the Napoleonic and Alexander the Great edition awards. If you're active in a WikiProject, check out the new offer for custom WikiProject triple crowns. I'll make those upon request if five or more editors qualify. See User:Durova/Triple crown winner's circle for more information. Thanks for your hard work, and cheers! DurovaCharge! 22:16, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
