Carlos Ismael "Charlie" Uresti (born September 12, 1963) is a Democrat representing the 19th District in the Texas Senate. Uresti previously represented portions of Bexar County and the City of San Antonio in District 118 in the Texas House from 1997 to 2006.
Uresti, the youngest of eight children[1], was born in Bexar County, Texas[2], reared in San Antonio and graduated from McCollum High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve at age eighteen, and after earning a bachelor of arts degree in political science from St. Mary's University was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He served four years of active duty as a combat engineer and advanced to the rank of captain and earned the Navy Commendation Medal. In 1992, Uresti graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law and maintains a private legal practice in San Antonio. He is also a senior vice president of a title company.[3]
As a member of the Texas House, Uresti was instrumental in helping to bring the Toyota facility to the Southside of San Antonio.[4]
Uresti’s wife is the former Yolanda Acuña and together they have two sons, Michael, a 2005 graduate of Texas A&M University, and Carlos, Jr., as of November 2006 on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps.[5]
Uresti is the brother of Albert Uresti, who unsuccessfully ran for U.S. Congress in November 2006.[6]
