Bennett and Standish families

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is about the characters in an American soap opera. For the Jane Austen characters, see Pride and Prejudice#Characters in Pride and Prejudice.

The Bennett family is a middle class family of Irish descent[1] living in the fictional town of Harmony on NBC/DirecTV's daytime drama Passions. The Bennetts have been on the ruthless Alistair Crane's bad side for years, but they earned Alistair's full wrath in the summer of 2005 when Alistair's granddaughter, Fancy, complained to her grandfather about Sam's son, Noah, infuriating the Crane patriarch, Sam was fired from his position as chief of police; after Alistair fell into a coma in 2006, his wife, Theresa, reinstated Sam as police chief, and once Fancy and Noah broke up, the brunt of the vendetta ended.

The Bennetts have married into many of the other families in Harmony, including the Cranes, Lopez-Fitzgeralds, and Standishes — Sam and Grace's three children, Noah, Kay, and Jessica, and Kay and Jessica's children, Maria and Samuel, are Standishes, and Kay has inherited the magical ability that runs in the Standish women.

Hank Bennett is the son of the late police chief Samuel Bennett and the much-younger brother of current police chief Sam Bennett. In high school, Hank was best friends with Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald, though the two were somewhat different — while Luis steadily dated Beth Wallace for a length of time, Hank was more of a ladies' man. After graduating from high school, Hank traveled the world, getting into numerous scrapes with the law. Hank returned to Harmony on August 20, 1999, and began dating famous heiress Sheridan Crane. Unfortunately, Hank's involvement with the French drug cartel led several of their hitmen to target Sheridan, and the FBI was forced to fake her death. Eventually, Hank realized that Sheridan was in love with Luis, and Hank stepped aside in order to allow the two to be together.

When actor Dalton James left the role, the character of Hank briefly exited the soap on January 10, 2001; he later returned a few months later on April 24, now portrayed by Ryan McPartlin. The character under McPartlin was radically different than he had been under James — much of Hank's questionable past was ignored, and the character joined the Harmony Police Department. Hank had little, if any, storylines, mostly offering aid or support to his family and Luis, until the character dropped off-canvas in mid-2004; McPartlin's last air-date was on June 18.

[edit] Jessica Bennett

Main article: Jessica Bennett

Jessica Bennett (born in 1985) is the youngest daughter and child of chief of police Sam Bennett and his late wife, Grace. Jessica experienced a normal and loving childhood and was generally much more well-behaved than her elder sister, Kay. Jessica began to act out after her mother left with David Hastings and began wildly partying. Jessica was raped in early 2005, which led the troubled young woman to act out further. She began dating Spike Lester, a scummy drug dealer and pimp; Spike got Jessica hooked on drugs and forced her in to prostitution. They married in June 2006 in Rome so that Spike could not be forced to testify against Jessica should she be tried for murdering several of her johns; Jessica was unaware that Spike, and not she, had murdered them.

Jessica eventually left Spike and moved back in to her father's house in April 2007; that same day, she discovered that she was pregnant. Spike, at the Blackmailer's demand, buried his pregnant wife alive, but Jessica was rescued and Spike was arrested for her attempted murder, as well as, eventually, the murder of Jessica's johns. After Spike's arrest, Jessica went to stay with her cousin, Charity, in a convent, where she gave birth to a son, Samuel Herbert Bennett, in either late 2007 or early January 2008.

[edit] Noah Bennett

Main article: Noah Bennett

Noah Bennett (born in 1980) is the youngest son of Sam Bennett and his first child with late wife Grace. Noah had a happy, loving childhood, and was apparently a gifted student; he attended boarding school in high school and after graduating from university in 2002 he enrolled in graduate school. After about a year, however, Noah secretly dropped out, finding the program uninteresting; Noah discovered that he had a knack for gambling and made his living that way, all the while forging report cards and letters from the dean and sending them to his father. While in Las Vegas, Noah met heiress Fancy Crane, and when he returned to Harmony after a six-year absence, the two began dating, much to the chagrin of Fancy's grandfather, Alistair. Noah and Fancy's relationship fell apart when Noah's ex-girlfriend, Maya Chinn, returned to town; the two had witnessed a murder committed by a terrorist organization while in college and Noah was forced to pretend that he was dating Maya in order to protect Fancy from the terrorists. By the time Noah had worked things out and could tell Fancy what had happened, she had already moved on with Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald.

Noah was bitter at having lost Fancy and began a string of one-night stands; eventually, though, he began dating Paloma Lopez-Fitzgerald, and the two are now engaged.

[edit] Sam Bennett

Main article: Sam Bennett

Samuel "Sam" Bennett (born in 1956) is the son of the late chief of police Samuel Bennett and the older brother of Hank Bennett. With his late wife, Grace, Sam is the father of three children — Noah (born 1980), Kathleen Elizabeth "Kay" (born 1983), and Jessica Bennett (born 1985); in 2001, Sam also discovered that he had fathered Ivy Crane's eldest son, Ethan Crane (born 1975), who later changed his surname to Winthrop, his mother's maiden name.

As a teenager, Sam fell in love with Ivy Winthrop, former Governor Harrison Winthrop's daughter. The two dreamt of a life together, but Harrison and Alistair Crane manipulated the situation to make each party believe that the other had fallen out of love, and Ivy ended up marrying Julian Crane. The two discovered the deception on her wedding night, and they made love, conceiving Ethan. Ivy stayed with Julian, however, and Sam moved to Boston and married Grace.

Sam and Ivy met again after twenty-five years in 1999, and Ivy determined to begin an affair with Sam, who had eyes only for his wife. Sam was furious when he discovered that Ivy had lied to him about his firstborn son, but he and Ethan eventually came to forgive Ivy. Ivy was still determined to have Sam for herself, however, and hired David Hastings to pretend to be the amnesiac Grace's first husband; Grace and David moved to Italy, and Sam and Ivy became engaged. Sam eventually discovered Ivy's treachery late in 2006 and told Grace, but before they could be reunited Grace was murdered in a bus explosion in London early in 2007. Sam and Ivy are currently trying to reconcile, but their relationship is complicated by Ivy's hatred of Sam's daughter, Kay, and Ivy's lingering feelings for Julian.

[edit] Samuel H. Bennett

Samuel Herbert Bennett (born on or between August 15, 2007, and January 6, 2008) is the newborn son of Jessica Bennett and her estranged husband, Herbert "Spike" Lester. Jessica discovered that she was pregnant after moving back in to her father's house and eventually left town after Spike was arrested for her attempted murder and the murder of several of her johns. Jessica returned to Harmony on January 7, 2008, having given birth to her son. Jessica originally named her son Samuel after both her father and grandfather and gave him her surname, Bennett, but Spike forced her to give their son the middle name of Herbert, Spike's legal first name.

[edit] Kay Bennett Crane

Main article: Kay Bennett

Kathleen Elizabeth Crane (née Bennett; born in 1983) is the eldest daughter and middle child of Sam and Grace Bennett. Kay fell in love with her best friend, Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald, when she was a little girl, but when her cousin, Charity, came to town in 1999, Miguel became infatuated with Charity. Kay was furious and turned to dark magic to break them up; Kay eventually imprisoned her cousin in a block of ice and created a duplicate, "Zombie" Charity who at first did Kay's bidding but then began trying to seduce and kill Miguel. Kay eventually stole the "essence" of Charity that Zombie Charity had made and used it to make Miguel think that she was Charity; the two had sex, and Kay became pregnant. She gave premature birth to a daughter, Maria Ivy, in July 2003, and Miguel was torn between his duties to his daughter and his girlfriend (who had been successfully unfrozen).

Miguel left town in July 2004 to hunt down Charity, and Kay was left to raise Maria alone. She eventually began dating Fox Crane in August 2005, and they became engaged seven months later. At this time, however, Miguel returned to Harmony sans Charity, and Kay began to realize that she was still in love with Miguel. Fox realized that Kay was about to break their engagement and faked a terminal illness to keep her from leaving; the couple were then married in January 2007. Fox's lies were eventually uncovered and Kay left him mid-2007; they began divorce proceedings, but Fox was murdered in September 2007 before they could be completed, leaving Kay a widow. Once Miguel, who had been kidnapped by Tabitha's Boys in the Basement, was ransomed from Hell, Kay and Miguel became engaged once more and began planning their wedding, though not without problems — Miguel discovered that Kay is a witch and forbade both her and Tabitha from performing witchcraft.

[edit] Little Ethan Crane

Ethan Lopez-Fitzgerald Crane (born June 21, 1996, as Ethan Martin Crane and later known as Ethan Winthrop, Jr.), better known as Little Ethan, is the adoptive son of Alistair and Theresa Crane. Born on-screen in 2002, Little Ethan was believed to be the product of Theresa's drunken fling with Julian Crane. When his mother married Alistair Crane in October 2005, Alistair adopted Little Ethan and named him the heir to the Crane empire, disowning all of his other relatives except Fancy. Alistair began to mold Little Ethan into his image, much to Theresa's dismay.

In June 2006, Theresa found out that her true love, Ethan Winthrop, had fathered her son. Initially thrilled, she became afraid that Ethan and his wife, Gwen, would sue for custody of Little Ethan and decided to keep Little Ethan's paternity a secret, especially after she realized that Little Ethan would cease to be the heir to the Crane empire were it revealed that he was not a Crane by blood. Theresa eventually decided to tell Ethan the truth in 2007, but Gwen and her mother Rebecca blackmailed Theresa by threatening to reveal her mother's explosive secret. Theresa eventually told Little Ethan that Ethan is his father when Little Ethan donated part of his liver to Ethan and Gwen's son, Jonathan, though Ethan himself still does not known that he has two sons.

[edit] Spike Lester

Main article: Spike Lester

Herbert Lester, better known as Spike, is the estranged husband of Jessica Bennett and the father of her infant son, Samuel Bennett. Spike is a lowlife drug dealer and pimp, as well as a minion of Alistair Crane, and began dating Jessica in March 2005. He got the young woman hooked onto drugs and eventually began prostituting her after Sam and Noah offended Alistair. In order to keep Jessica under his control, Spike murdered a number of Jessica's johns and made Jessica believe that she had done the deed; the two were married in June 2006 in Rome so that he would be unable to testify against her should she be charged with a crime. Jessica eventually left Spike in April 2007 and shortly thereafter discovered that she was pregnant; Spike wanted to sell their child on the black market, but Jessica refused.

Later, on the orders of the Blackmailer, Spike buried Jessica alive; when she was rescued, she named Spike as her attempted murderer, and he was arrested. It was also later revealed that Spike had murdered Jessica's johns, and he was again arrested and charged with murder, though he was able to get off scot-free when he convinced Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald to delete his criminal record in exchange for information on his missing son, Marty. Jessica returned to town with the couple's son, Samuel Herbert, in January 2008, and Spike has vowed to play a part in his son's life.

[edit] Maria Lopez-Fitzgerald

Maria Ivy Lopez-Fitzgerald (born July 21, 2003) is the only child and daughter of Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald and Kay Bennett. Maria was conceived when her mother used the essence of Charity on herself, making Miguel believe that she was his girlfriend, and slept with him. Miguel was by Kay's side when Maria was born prematurely in July 2003 and suffered from respiratory problems, but he eventually left town when Maria was a year old in order to chase after Charity, who had fled Harmony. After Miguel left, Kay largely raised Maria on her own until she began dating Fox Crane in August 2005; Maria eventually came to see Fox as her father. Miguel returned to town in March 2006, however, and Fox and Kay's relationship ended a little over a year later, leaving Miguel and Kay to reunite and raise their daughter together.

[edit] Ethan Winthrop

Main article: Ethan Winthrop

Ethan Winthrop (born Ethan Crane on or between March 1 and June 21, 1975) is the product of the adulterous affair between Sam Bennett and Ivy Winthrop. Sam and Ivy had been teenage lovers when she was tricked into marrying Julian Crane; upon discovering that their marriage had been simply a business merger, Ivy sought comfort with Sam, and Ethan was conceived. Ivy eventually decided to stay married to Julian, however, and decided to pass Sam's son off as Julian's. The ploy worked for nearly twenty-six years, and Ethan was raised and bred to inherit the Crane Empire.

For the soap's nine-year duration, Ethan has been embroiled in a love triangle with Gwen Hotchkiss, whom he began dating when he was twelve, and Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald, the maid's daughter. Ethan broke off his engagement to Gwen the night before they were to be married in 2000 and left her for Theresa, and Gwen, heartbroken and devastated, revealed Ethan's true paternity to the tabloids and framed Theresa in the process. Theresa ended up marrying Ethan's ex-father, Julian, and becoming pregnant with his child, and when Ethan discovered Theresa's lies, he broke off their engagement. After Theresa gave birth to a son, Ethan Martin, in June 2002, Ethan came to forgive her for her lies; he was prepared to propose to her when Gwen confided that she was expecting his child, and Ethan instead married Gwen in December 2002. Ethan and Gwen's daughter, Sarah, was stillborn in October 2003, however, after Gwen and Theresa were involved in a physical altercation, igniting Gwen's full fury and hatred towards Theresa.

Though Ethan and Gwen remained married until 2007, Theresa gave birth to Ethan's daughter, Jane, in December 2002 after drugging Ethan's drink and raping him; Ethan and Gwen sued for and won full custody of Jane. After Gwen caught Ethan and Theresa in bed in January 2007, however, Gwen left Ethan and filed for divorce; she later returned to town and revealed that she had given birth to Ethan's son, Jonathan, while away. Because Ethan did not know about Jonathan when they divorced, Ethan and Gwen's divorce was null, and the two are still married, despite the fact that Ethan is trying to have a relationship with Theresa, whom he believes cheated on him. Ethan is unaware that Theresa's son, Little Ethan, is biologically his son; Gwen blackmailed Theresa into keeping quiet.

[edit] Gwen Hotchkiss Winthrop

Main article: Gwen Winthrop

Gwendolen "Gwen" Winthrop (née Hotchkiss; born in 1975) is the wife of Ethan Winthrop and the daughter of Jonathan and Rebecca Hotchkiss. Gwen and Ethan met at a boarding school mixer when they were twelve and began dating; they later became engaged in 1999. Ethan broke off their engagement the day before their 2000 wedding, however, leaving her for her supposed friend, Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald. Gwen was furious and sent a letter to Daily Private Lives, a tabloid, exposing Ethan's true paternity and framing Theresa. After Theresa's lies became too much for Ethan, they broke up, and Ethan and Gwen reunited. Ethan was again about to leave Gwen for Theresa when Gwen discovered that she was pregnant, and though she told Ethan not to propose because of the baby, they were married in December 2002. The couple's daughter, Sarah, was stillborn in October 2003, however, and the two were devastated.

Ethan and Gwen remained together until January 2007, despite Ethan's continuing attraction to Theresa and the birth of Ethan and Theresa's daughter, Jane, in December 2004. Gwen finally left Ethan when she found him in bed with Theresa, however; while away, she discovered that, despite being supposedly barren, she was pregnant with Ethan's child. She gave birth to a son, Jonathan, in May 2007, and finalized her divorce from Ethan in July. However, when Ethan was poisoned, Gwen realized that she was still in love with him; Gwen introduced Ethan to his son and began blackmailing Theresa, threatening to have her entire family killed if she told Ethan that Little Ethan is also his son. Because she failed to inform him about Jonathan before finalizing their divorce, the divorce is null and void, and they are still married.

[edit] Jane Winthrop

Jane Winthrop (born December 2, 2004) is the daughter and youngest child of Ethan Winthrop and Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald. Jane was conceived in May 2004 when her mother, who believed that she had miscarried Ethan and Gwen's child and was desperate to successfully act as their surrogate so that she could trade their child for her own son, Little Ethan, whom the Winthrops had adopted, drugged and raped Ethan. Theresa soon found that she had never miscarried and was pregnant with twins — one child hers and Ethan's, the other Ethan and Gwen's — but eventually became unable to carry both children to term. The weaker twin, a son Ethan and Gwen planned to name Nathan, was aborted in November 2004, and Jane was born fourteen weeks prematurely in December.

Gwen, who had been rendered infertile following the stillbirth of her daughter, Sarah, in October 2003, was devastated to discover that Jane was not biologically her daughter. Ethan and Gwen sued for custody of Jane, however, and won; for the first two years of her life, Jane knew Gwen as her mother. Ethan and Gwen separated in January 2007, however, and Gwen was legally unable to keep custody of Jane, who began living with Ethan and Theresa.

[edit] Jonathan Winthrop

Jonathan Winthrop (born May 11, 2007) is the son and youngest child of Ethan and Gwen Winthrop, born during his parents' separation. Gwen brought her son to Harmony and introduced him to his father on September 7, 2007. Ethan was thrilled to have a son, but began to realize that the baby was ill. Jonathan eventually went into liver failure and required a partial liver transplant. His older half-sister, Jane, was a match, but had an ear infection and could not be operated on. Jane was the only known donor, as all of Jonathan's other relatives tested negative as a match — all except Little Ethan, who, beknownst only to Gwen and Little Ethan's mother, Theresa, is Ethan's son and Jonathan's half-brother. Gwen deluded herself into believing that Jonathan would be fine without a donor and refused to let Theresa tell Ethan that Little Ethan could be a match, so Theresa secretly had Little Ethan's liver donated anyway. The transplant was a success, and Jonathan made a full recovery.

[edit] Sarah Winthrop

Sarah Winthrop (stillborn October 7, 2003) was the firstborn child and daughter of Ethan Winthrop and his wife, Gwen. Ethan and Gwen were married in December 2002 after Gwen learned that she was pregnant, and the couple flew to Los Angeles in mid-2003; Gwen had been having a difficult pregnancy, and the couple hoped that a specialist there would be able to help them.

Gwen was in the hospital when she saw footage on the local news of Ethan making out with his ex-fiancé, Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald. Gwen was horrified and left the hospital against doctors' orders in order to confront her husband, but instead of finding Ethan, she found Theresa. The two women found themselves in a physical altercation that left Gwen unconscious by the pool. Gwen was rushed to the hospital, where Ethan was forced to chose between the life of his wife and unborn child; he eventually told doctors to save his wife, and the couple's daughter was stillborn. Grief-stricken, they had their little girl posthumously baptized as Sarah and returned to Harmony to bury their baby.

[edit] Former family members and extended family

[edit] Grace Standish Bennett

Main article: Grace Bennett

Grace Bennett (née Standish; died January 4, 2007) is the late wife of Sam Bennett and the mother of Noah, Kay, and Jessica Bennett. Sam rescued Grace from a fire in Boston in the late 1970s that left Grace suffering from amnesia — she was unable to remember the first twenty or so years of her life. In 1999, Sam found Grace's identical twin sister, Faith, on the internet, and the two sisters decided to reunite. Unfortunately, Grace's neighbor, Tabitha Lenox, was an evil witch who was determined to keep the sisters, who possessed powers of goodness, apart, and murdered Faith. Faith's teenage daughter, Charity, survived though, and Grace took her young niece in.

In 2001, Grace discovered that Sam had fathered Ivy Crane's oldest son, Ethan, and that Ivy had been plotting to seduce Sam. Later that year, a man named David Hastings arrived in Harmony claiming to be Grace's long-lost husband; he also claimed that Grace was the mother of his son, John. This revelation placed a huge strain on Sam and Grace's relationship, and Grace eventually moved to Italy with David and John. Unbeknownst to Sam and Grace, Ivy had hired David to pretend to be Grace's husband, a fact that came out late in 2006. Grace quickly left David and prepared to return to Harmony, but was killed in a London bus explosion on Vincent Clarkson's orders.

[edit] Samuel Bennett

Samuel Bennett was the former Chief of Police of the Harmony Police Department and the father of Sam and Hank Bennett. Both his son, Sam, and great-grandson, Samuel, were named in his honor. During the 1920s, Samuel was apparently an important businessman and landowner in Harmony, but, during the Great Depression, he was forced to sell his land and businesses to the Cranes.[2] Both Samuel and his wife both passed away sometime before late 2005.

[edit] Fox Crane

Main article: Fox Crane

Nicholas Foxworth "Fox" Crane (in or between 1981 and 1983 — September 17, 2007) is the late husband of Kay Bennett Crane. After dating for a year and a half, Fox and Kay were married on January 10, 2007; though their relationship had been happy and loving in the beginning, Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald's return to Harmony in March 2006 forced Kay to realize that she was in love with Miguel and not Fox, and she only married Fox because she believed him to be dying of a terminal illness. When Kay found out about six months later that Fox had faked his illness in a last-ditch attempt to keep her from leaving him, she filed for divorce, though Fox was murdered before their divorce could be finalized.

[edit] David Hastings

Carroll as David.
Carroll as David.

David Hastings was an English photographer who claimed to be the amnesiac Grace Bennett's first, legal husband; eventually, it was learned that he was a con man who had been hired by Grace's husband Sam's ex-girlfriend, Ivy Winthrop. The revelation that she had been married once before stunned the devoutly Catholic Grace, and matters were further complicated when David claimed that his son, John, was also Grace's son. Grace slowly fell for David, and though she still loved Sam more, the stress of David and John's presence eventually tore apart Sam and Grace's marriage. After Sam and Grace broke up and Grace returned to David, Grace's two daughters, Kay and Jessica became furious with her, and their and Sam's cold behavior toward her eventually led her to move to Italy with David and John in mid-2004. Ivy's schemes were eventually exposed in late 2006, when Grace confronted David off-screen, he confessed to his involvement. Grace quickly left him in order to return to Sam, and David's fate was never revealed.

Justin Carroll played David from June 21, 2001March 16, 2004; Julian Stone temporarily took over the role in October 2003.

[edit] John Hastings

Jack Krizmanich as John Hastings
Jack Krizmanich as John Hastings

John Hastings is the son of David Hastings. In 2001, Ivy brought John to Harmony from college, ostensibly to "reunite" him with his long-lost mother, Grace Bennett. John was thrilled to finally meet his mother, unaware that his father was being blackmailed into participating in Ivy's scheme. While in Harmony, John briefly dated Simone Russell. Eventually, Sam and Grace split up, and Grace moved to Italy with David and John. Ivy's scheme was revealed late in 2006, and Grace left David. John's reaction to this news was never revealed.

John was portrayed by Jack Krizmanich from December 31, 2001, to February 11, 2004.

[edit] Charity Standish

Main article: Charity Standish

Charity Standish (born May 8, 1984) is the daughter of #Faith Standish, Grace Bennett's identical twin sister, and is said to possess powers of extraordinary goodness. Charity and Faith were living in Castleton when Tabitha Lenox set fire to the Standishes' home, killing Faith. Charity survived, though she was stricken with amnesia, causing her to forget the first fifteen years of her life, and Grace and Sam took her in. Charity fell in love with Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald, infuriating her cousin, Kay, who had been in love with Miguel since she was a child. Kay turned to the forces of evil to win Miguel back, eventually becoming pregnant with his child. Kay gave birth prematurely to a daughter, Maria, in July 2003, causing a rift between Miguel and Charity. Charity eventually left Harmony with Miguel hot on her heels.

[edit] Faith Standish

Faith Kathleen Standish (died September 13, 1999[3]) was a fictional character played by Dana Sparks on the NBC soap opera, Passions. She was a reclusive woman who had been on the run for years with her daughter, Charity Standish, from forces she claimed killed her family because they held the magical powers to destroy evil. Faith was also on a mission to find her amnesia-ridden identical twin sister, Grace Standish, who vanished many years ago and is unaware of the evil forces that hunt them. By chance, Faith ran into Grace's husband, Sam Bennett on a chatline leading to an online meeting between the two sisters. Unbeknownst to Faith, however, was that Grace's neighbor was Tabitha Lenox, an evil witch. In fact, it was Tabitha who caused Grace to have amnesia. When Tabitha learned that Faith and Grace had met online and were planning to meet in person, Tabitha set Faith's house on fire in order to kill both Faith and Charity so that Grace would never learn of her powers and that the evil forces would continue to rule Earth. Charity survived the fire and moved in with Grace, a foil to Tabitha, but Faith perished in the fire. Her soul has appeared several times since her death to warn her sister and daughter of the evil plans Tabitha has in store.

Faith always wore a cross around her neck and hung up glass angels around her house because she thought it could keep her safe from evil, and her most loved object was a picture of herself and her twin sister Grace taken many years ago. As Grace's identical twin, she was also portrayed by Dana Sparks.

[edit] Prudence Standish

Heidi Mueller as Prudence Standish

Prudence Standish was, according to Hidden Passions, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the prominent Standish family in Harmony. In 1693, Prudence witnessed Tabitha "conversing with demons in the woods" and determined to tell the townfolk of Tabitha's witchcraft. Tabitha showed Prudence that she, too, had unique and strong powers, and Tabitha encouraged Prudence to use her powers for evil. Prudence wanted to use her powers for good, however, and Tabitha prophesied that one of Prudences descendants would eventually use her powers for evil (that prophecy came true in the form of Kay Bennett).[4] Prudence at first kept quiet, but later testified against Tabitha and urged the townspeople to condemn Tabitha to death by fire; Prudence watched as Tabitha was bound to a stake, cursing her as well as all of her descendants to die by fire, going as far as to set Prudence's dress on fire.[5] Though the fire was put out, Prudence was the first Standish to fall victim Tabitha's curse. Tabitha rejuvenated from her ashes within weeks and disguised herself as Margaret Good, a "cousin" of Tabitha who sought to murder Prudence on her wedding day. Tabitha failed, though she did kill Prudence's groom, who was an ancestor of Martin Fitzgerald. Prudence and the rest of her family then fled Harmony.

Prudence was portrayed by both Molly Stanton (Charity) and Heidi Mueller (Kay).

[edit] Hidden Passions

In the book Hidden Passions, Sam and Hank's parents were Benjamin Bennett and Margaret Joyce Bennett. They had at least four sons, including Sam and Hank (at least two sons were between Sam and Hank). Information in the book has not been confirmed on-screen and is not considered to be official since the information seen on the show contradicts much of what was said in the book. The show has never confirmed the names of Sam and Hank's parents, (though Jessica has stated on air that she named her son after her father, and great-grandfather) or the existence of the other brothers.
