[edit] Articles in need of attention
Here please list the articles related to the Baltic States that are tagged as violating NPOV, lacking references, needing attention, copyediting, or general clean up. As well, list here stubs that deserve to be expanded. Please add new entries at the top of this list and please describe what needs to be done.
- Estophobia —- was nominated for deletion. The arguments need to be sorted through, the reasonable ones taken into account, and the quality of the article raised level high enough to avoid deletion. Digwuren 16:03, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Latvian Legions should be merged into Latvian Legion---- Xil/talk 16:07, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- Latgalian language - I've suggested to split it i.e. move most article to new page titled Latgalian dialect. Please join discussion and vote on talk page -- Xil/talk 15:08, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Talk:Teutonic-Estonian War - The article's title seems to be original research; I have proposed alternatives on the talk page (including an expansion to Livonian Crusade). Olessi 15:40, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Occupation of Baltic Republics has an ongoing survey to move the article to "Occupation of Baltic States"; is in need of various inline references (I have tagged a few paragraphs, but not all) and copy-editing; allegations of non-NPOV title, similar to those on Talk:1940–1945_occupation_of_Latvia, have resurfaced, so some tagging "action" may be oncoming. Doc15071969 09:28, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- Neo-Nazism in Estonia - as it is, it's more like propaganda leaflet. I suggest voting for deletion, and if someone wishes, re-start it as a whole. Currently nonsense. Constanz - Talk 10:18, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Estonian Independence Party - vandalist assaults, claiming the party is Neo-Nazi. Constanz - Talk 10:18, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Talk:Estonian Liberation War needs some attention, as the same Soviet guys have found 'anti-Soviet POV' again.Constanz - Talk 08:45, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- Occupation of Latvia 1940-1945 A group of comrades suggest Baltic states were never occupied and thus, the word occupation should not be used. I've listed the dispute here, it might be of some help. Please see article discussion.--Constanz - Talk 14:32, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- Latvian-Soviet War -- Ghirlandajo has renamed the article without discussion. I won't be participating at Wiki very much anymore -- I don't have time for this sort of idiocy. The article should be expanded, or the similar Estonian article should be renamed also, and then let us concede to renaming everything as Soviet apologists desire. This is pretty much the nadir of Wikiidiocy -- sorry, but the war was not merely or even mostly "Latvian-Soviet" but involved various parties, as described in the article. Latvia was at war with Germany also, for instance. Context. --Pēteris Cedriņš 14:24, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- It seems that the reason is that "we don't use Great Patriotic War for the Eastern front of WWII" ( Ghirlandajos' next edit summary after the move, no other particular reason to say that). That doesn't make sence and infact the new title is POV - Latvians generaly call this war "Battles of Freedom", not Liberation war. Soviet forces were mainly formed from Latvian rifflemen many of them left soviet army, because they were against soviet policy and rest of soviet forces were driven out of most parts of Latvia. Most of the fithing happened between Latvians and their alies vs Germans and anti-soviet Russians. Are we going to call every soviet fiasco a "soviet war" ? -- Xil/talk 03:26, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- This is Ghirla's attitude towards every edit by any non-(pro)-Russian on any such subject, basically, and I shall no longer wade through this shit, sorry -- at least not until I have lots of free time. It is very tiring to try to edit when there is a tidal wave of Soviet apologists ready to mow down everything that does not conform to Stalin's books -- redone, in a new guise, hip-hip-hooray, so cute and funky! May Irpen and Ghirla enjoy themselves, along with all other polittekhnologi. I won't be back too soon. Ardievu! --Pēteris Cedriņš04:38, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Xil -- yes, Latvians most often call it brīvības cīņas, of course. I spent time comparing what English language texts call it, trying to distill a title and weighing the alternatives. You have to compare what that is literally, as a translator, to what similar conflicts are called. --Pēteris Cedriņš 05:41, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Issue was resolved by User:Doc15071969 who moved article to Latvian War of Independence-- Xil/talk 19:25, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

- Ilva Liepiņa tagged as POV, makes impression that she's a porn star or something -- Xil/talk 02:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- The nationality of Vlado Perlemuter is not clear from the wiki article. Was he Pole, Jew or Frenchman? Orionus 13:35, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- January Uprising Lithuanian role in 1863 Uprising not reflected at all.
- Kaunas University of Technology really needs some attention. Encyclopaedia Editing Dude 18:50, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- National Power Unity. I added a note on the threat of violence made yesterday; I am not sure if/how to list this article as a current event. --Pēteris Cedriņš 12:18, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Portal:Latvia After a long absence, I updated current news and picture; perhaps someone can suggest/update the featured article? —Pēters J. Vecrumba 06:12, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Another update done (news, picture, october dates in history), would appreciate someone tracking down a good feature article to replace the current one. —Pēters J. Vecrumba 15:21, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- Memel. There is a dispute[1] what it means--Molobo 14:46, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- Articles Districts of Latvia and Counties of Latvia should be merged and resulting article should be Districts of Latvia. If no one objects, I could do it in a few weeks. -Yyy 12:21, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- Politics of Lithuania: the description of the administrative division in the article requires serious wikifying. Linas Lituanus 17:36, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- Kohuke and Curd snack should be merged (but under which name ?) -- Xil/talk 23:05, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- Merged under English name. Renata 02:32, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- Baltic Way - maybe someone could find a free image? Renata 17:20, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- Alūksne has been tagged for POV by Ghirlandajo -- see its talk page.
- Is Flakans War a valid article? After reading it carefully, the article seems suspect; for one, the UN didn't exist during the proposed time frame of the event--Confuzion 02:13, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- Not only did the UN not exist -- Estonia and Latvia didn't yet exist, either. --Pēteris Cedriņš 08:15, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- Tagged Pērkonkrusts, an article on the extremist group(s), as factually inaccurate. See its talk page. --Pēteris Cedriņš 02:15, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- Singing_Revolution Section on Estonia is written in heroic manner, while almoust nothing is said about Latvia and Lithuania -- Xil/talk 08:35, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- I have proposed merging Baigais gads into Occupation of Latvia; see Talk:Occupation of Latvia. Pēteris Cedriņš 01:34, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- Merge completed into Occupation of Latvia 1940-1945, more work necessary to expand original "Occupation of Latvia" article which only dealt with the first Soviet occupation. —Pēters 04:23, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Mediaeval artist Bernt Notke needs some more information on his works in the Baltic states. Most info with google is in local language, are there pictures of the remains of his Danse macabre or altar?--Kresspahl 14:34, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- Pilėnai could be expanded and language could be corrected DeirYassin 21:11, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- Balts: This edit needs to be toned down and wikified. --Ghirla | talk 17:53, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed; not only "toned down" but corrected; the Latvians article is also in need of major revision (and some serious deletions...). Pēteris Cedriņš 15:40, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Added factual accuracy tag to Bermontians -- see Talk:Bermontians. The article needs considerable expansion, besides requiring major changes. --Pēteris Cedriņš 16:02, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- The Latvian mythology article needs serious clean-up (as do many of the articles in the list there -- many require name changes/moving). Pēteris Cedriņš 15:43, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- What would you say if I merged all the stubs into one list, say List of deities in Latvian mythology and List of mythologic holidays in Latvia (or something). Almost exactly the same problem is with Lithuanian mythology. Renata 14:20, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- I would say -- great idea! --Pēteris Cedriņš 14:27, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ok then. Give me till Monday and I'll do it. Are titles ok? maybe it should be List of pagan holidays in Latvia? Renata 04:08, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- Seems like it would be a good start at a simple redo of Latvian mythology, sections being a historical overview, list of deities+description (not pointing to other articles) and list of holidays; I added a Talk:Latvian mythology page --Pēters 17:39, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- Deities are done. Comments welcome on the talk page. Renata 06:15, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

- I asked the user what's the problem. If no sensible answer is given in a couple of days - feel free to remove. Renata 14:15, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- I greatly expanded the "History" section at Latvia over the past couple of days, and plan to work on History of Latvia in the near future. I would appreciate criticism/editing of the section, and I think the "Demographics" section can now be untagged. Please see Talk:Latvia ("POV sections"). --Pēteris Cedriņš 22:26, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discussions about articles
Here please list the current ongoing important discussions about articles related to the Baltic States, so that other contributors would became aware of the debates and could voice their opinions. Add new articles at the top of this list and briefly outline the issue.
- Baltic states - There is discussion whether Lithuania (and part of Latvia) is in northen or in central Europe (culturaly not geographicly), BTW quick looking into articles on Central Europe and Lithuania suggests Northen Europe ---- Xil...sist! 22:48, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- I added a section to Occupation of Baltic states listing all the treaties in effect between the Baltics and the USSR, plus agreements the USSR signed through 1945 [2]. Hopefully Baltic editors will find it of use in any of the number of "occupation discussions" going on at any particular time. — Pēters J. Vecrumba 03:02, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- A discussion about deleting the Ethnographic villages in Lithuania category. Whether to rename it to "open-air museums". --Lysytalk 20:41, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

- Added online books/studies republished on the web section to Latvia article. The respective documents are not in the public domain and so cannot be simply stuck into the appropriate Wiki. (I should mention that if there is sufficient demand I would consider putting up the Lithuanian and Estonian sections of "Attitudes of the Major Soviet Nationalities" (contents similar to the Latvian section). —Pēters J. - After some external instigation I've proposed in Talk:Occupation of Latvia 1940-1945 (I can't take credit for the original idea) to extend the Occupation of Latvia 1940-1945 article from 1940-1991. There's just too much left hanging and incomplete from a historical perspective. Please post thoughts on talk page. —Pēters J. Vecrumba 23:24, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- The Rainiai massacre has been moved to Rainiai executions, and Occupation of Baltic Republics to Annextion of Baltic States]] by User:Nixer. Everything is reverted now. But some move protection may be needed. Encyclopaedia Editing Dude 18:11, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- The "Prussians" article was moved to Old Prussians after a poll taken by only 2 people (including the originator), see Talk:Old Prussians. IMO it was a wrong idea. Please comment there. `'mikka (t) 22:41, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

- Naming of Polish monarchs has caused quite a lot of stirr recently. There is now a strong move to go back to before all of this started, which I believe would be a step in the completly wrong direction. Some of us may quarrel about Władysław II Jagiełło vs Jogiala, but I believe none of us want to have Wladislaus II of Poland. Please see Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(names_and_titles)#Need_of_particular_exception.2F_convention_for_Polish_monarchs and remember that Wladislaus II of Poland is ready to come back...--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 15:49, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

- Soviet Legacy in Russian Policy. I have been unable to find anything focusing on Russia's promulgation of the Soviet view on post-WWII Eastern Europe or its resurrection of Stalinist symbols. I would envision it as the place for an objective accounting of the Baltics' occupation/no-occupation "debate". The general theme would be Stalin is buried but (increasingly?) not dead. I did check Politics of Russia as a potential article where one could expand on this theme, but that's not really the appropriate venue. —Pēters J. Vecrumba 16:21, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Article about events in january 1991 in Latvia, I mean Barikādes (Barricades) - name should be different i.e. different sorces name this event Barricades' Days (in Riga), Barricades of 1991 and so on. I couldn't find such article, but topic is important and extensive as most sorces start their timeline in november '90 [3] -- Xil/talk 01:28, 7 March 2006 (UTC)- Did myself - January 1991 events in Latvia -- Xil/talk 13:38, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
