Australian Patrol Boat Group

The Australian Patrol Boat Group is a force element group of the Royal Australian Navy. The group's mission is to provide patrol boat capability for the protection of Australia's national interests.
The Patrol Boat Group operates 10 Armidale class patrol boats, with a further 4 Armidale class ships yet to enter service. The Group's headquarters are located at HMAS Coonawarra in the city of Darwin, additional support is provided by the class logistics office at HMAS Cairns.

There have been three classes of Patrol boat to serve in the Royal Australian Navy; The Attack Class boats which were commissioned between 1967 and 1968 and decommissioned between 1973 and 1994, The Fremantle Class boats which were commissioned between 1980 and 1984 and decommissioned between 2005 and 2007, and the Armidale Class boats which began entering service from 2005.

With the introduction of the Armidale class patrol boats the APBG is being reorganised into three divisions of four ships and six crews and a fourth division of two ships and three crews. The divisions are named after Attack class patrol boats. When the reorganisation is complete the Group will have the following structure[1]:
