Alitalia Express S.p.A. is an airline based in Rome, Italy and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alitalia. It operates regional scheduled services and charter flights on behalf of Alitalia. Its main bases are Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport, Rome, and Malpensa International Airport, Milan.[1]

The airline was established and started operations on 1 October 1997. It was founded from the defunct Avianova. It has 710 employees.[1] In March 2003 it was reported that Alitalia were considering taking over Minerva Airlines which had suspended flight operations and transferring the turboprop fleet of Alitalia Express to Minerva. This did not happen and in September 2004 Alitalia announced plans to acquire twelve additional Embraer ERJ-170 aircraft for Alitalia Express.[citation needed]

Alitalia Express operates the following services (at April 2008):[citation needed]
- Domestic scheduled destinations: Ancona, Bologna, Catania, Crotone, Florence, Genoa, Milan, Naples, Perugia, Pisa, Rome, Trieste and Venice.
- International scheduled destinations: Barcelona, Belgrade, Bilbao, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, London, Lyon, Marseille, Munich, Nice, Prague, Strasbourg, Stuttgart, Timişoara, Vienna, Warsaw and Zürich.

The Alitalia Express aircraft fleet consists of (March 2007):[1]
In October 2006, Alitalia Express fleet age is 6.2 years old.[2]
As part of the Alitalia restructures announced in late 2007, Alitalia Express will retire its entire fleet of 10 ATR 72 turboprops and only use its ERJ-145 and EMB-170 from April 2008.[3]
