Albion is a town in Oswego County, New York, USA. The population was 2,083 at the 2000 census.

The Town of Albion is in the northeastern part of the county.

The town was first settled around 1812. Albion was created in 1825 from part of the Town of Richland.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 47.8 square miles (123.8 km²), of which, 47.2 square miles (122.4 km²) of it is land and 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²) of it (1.17%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 2,083 people, 704 households, and 539 families residing in the town. The population density was 44.1 people per square mile (17.0/km²). There were 797 housing units at an average density of 16.9/sq mi (6.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.42% White, 0.05% African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.10% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.62% of the population.

There were 704 households out of which 38.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.4% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.3% were non-families. 16.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.95 and the average family size was 3.25.

In the town the population was spread out with 31.2% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $38,083, and the median income for a family was $40,000. Males had a median income of $32,667 versus $21,875 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,022. About 10.4% of families and 13.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.3% of those under age 18 and 9.9% of those age 65 or over.

  • Pineville -- A hamlet on the Salmon River northwest of Altmar on State Route 13.
